News for March 15, 2017 Message from Beth Behnke, Principal Welcome back - Hope all of you had a nice Spring Break. We have heard of the many adventures here and away that the students and staff had with their family and friends. Good to have everyone back. We are gearing up for a great 3rd Trimester. There is much learning yet to take place for your child/ren. Teachers and staff are working hard to continue the momentum of accelerated learning for all students. As I walk the halls and visit classrooms, I witness students engaged in learning in whole group, partners, teams, independently. Students are eager to share with me what they are studying and what they have created. Just today in 3rd grade I learned more about Gorillas, saw 4th graders learn more about the district instrumental programs and in Kindergarten, teams showed me how they were making a "pig mobile" in STEM. It doesn't get any better than that! Another thing I noticed is that some 6th graders started taking their MCA math assessment today. Over the course of the next month and a half our Gr 3-6 students will be taking the MCAs (Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment). These tests are one measure of how your child/ren are doing with grade level benchmarks. We do encourage students to get a good night's rest and have breakfast each day to boost the brain power for learning everyday even on testing days. Thanks for partnering with us in educating your child/ren. LOST & FOUND Along with our students growing everyday, so does our Lost & Found. Please know that we will be donating all unclaimed items at the end of this week. Do stop by and take a look as all items are on display in the front hall. REMINDERS It is good to remind your child/ren to keep their prized possessions and valuables at home. We do not have lockers so all student backpacks are in the hallways on open coathooks. noted in our handbook on page 6 "The school nor the district assumes liability for suchitems."

It has been reported that some students are arriving to school as much as 30 minutes early. This is discouraged because of the lack of supervision. We do not have adult supervision atentries until the first bus arrives around 8:40 at the main entrance and the east entrance notuntil 8:50 when the first bell rings. Thank you for your cooperation.

Instramental Music Demonstration The district's music department traveled to all of the elementary schools this week to demonstratevarious instruments and explain the school music program.  We hope that many of the students willchoose to join orchestra or band as they move into the upper elementary grades.  Yay!  Music!

to be going well.  However, it is a long process.

If you would like to consider donating to his family to help cover continuing out of pocket medical
