TABLOID:THE SUN -story is written in a informal manner, uses simple language. Maybe because more people can read it -Doesn't use paragraphs, only bullet points on the main parts of the story. Not a lot of detail. Could be because it would be easier to read and engage readers as they might prefer not to read a long paragraph -It uses a lot of pictures, mainly graphic. Does use a video showing Pistorius, also uses twitter (the public opinions) This could be because the public audience can relate to the public thought on twitter. It uses all of these instead of writing the detail because then it can give a lot of information on the story. It has the shock factor from the graphic pictures. -Also has a third party quotes (not from the important people during the hearing i.e judge) Witnesses at the hearing, giving the public a third view account, this can be because its exposing every part of the story -There is also a timeline of Pistorius, this can be for the people who didn't follow the story from the beginning. So they are up to date on what is happening and can easily follow on what is going on

TABLOID:THE SUN-story is written in a informal manner, uses simple language. Maybe because

more people can read it-Doesn't use paragraphs, only bullet points on the main parts of the story. Not a lot of detail. Could be because it would be easier to read and engage readers

as they might prefer not to read a long paragraph-It uses a lot of pictures, mainly graphic. Does use a video showing Pistorius,

also uses twitter (the public opinions) This could be because the public audience can relate to the public thought on twitter. It uses all of these

instead of writing the detail because then it can give a lot of information on the story. It has the shock factor from the graphic pictures.

-Also has a third party quotes (not from the important people during the hearing i.e judge) Witnesses at the hearing, giving the public a third view

account, this can be because its exposing every part of the story-There is also a timeline of Pistorius, this can be for the people who didn't

follow the story from the beginning. So they are up to date on what is happening and can easily follow on what is going on

BROADSHEETS:DAILY TELEGRAPH• -It has more detail than the sun. It also uses ambitious vocabulary and

formal language. Which means only a small group of people can read it, mainly older people. So it has a niche target audience

• -Uses paragraphs, its very sensible. Doesn't shock the audience as it doesn't have any graphic content. Which means it might not get a lot of views as it could be considered boring

• -There are direct quotes from the judge and prosecution, so it has more valuable information as it has come from the important people in the hearing

• -There is only one picture of Pistarious. Its just a picture of him leaving. this could make the story more boring as there is no shock factor

• -It gives you both sides of the story, so the whole story is covered. There aren't any missing pieces.

Page 3: News bias

• THE SUN• The article is trying to make the audience lose sympathy for Pistorious, make him seem

like a bad person, a murderer. This is because the headline of the article is very derogatory

towards Pistorious. Making him seem as the public scum as the headline says he is an

“insult to women” Getting the public to hate him. Making the audience believe that

justice wasn't served

• THE DAILY TELEGRAPH• -The article is very neutral, theres not a lot of bias happening. Therefore the audience is

left to make their own opinion of Pistorious. It gives both sides of the story

• -There is one bias view on Pistorious, as there was a soft sentence causing sympathy

towards him. Therefore the audience may see him in a positive light.

Page 4: News bias

• THE SUN• The agenda of the sun is to sell the audience the fact that Pistorious is a

murderer, that his defence story is a lie. basically selling the fact that justice was

not served

• DAILY TELEGRAPH• The agenda is slightly the same as the suns however it does have a undertone of

the article being neutral, therefore telling the full truth

Page 5: News bias

• The Sun and the Daily telegraph are owned under the same company (News Corp) this means that they are given the same information but a different agenda.

• The telegraph has a niche audience so they don’t have to use informal language techniques or graphic photos as there audience doesn't exactly react to that. This means that the audience can understand formal and ambitious vocabulary, also the telegraph cannot be very bias as their target audience are more mature and old enough to make their own opinion.

• However the sun can use informal language and graphic content as they have a mass audience from the age from 12 and up.This is why the content and headline are more of a shock factor and graphic as it would appeal to more people and why the language is not as mature.
