Thank you Betty!

I have worked at Groce United Methodist Church since January of 2008.

“My favorite part of the Charleston mission trip was going to work with ‘Fields to Families.’ I loved the people I worked with, the memories that were made, and how stress free it was to just dig in the dirt.” Eryn Faggart, 10th grader

“I really enjoyed getting to work at The Lowcountry Or-phan Relief. We helped sort clothes into bags that go to foster children who depended on it. Many people from the community came to help sort the clothing and drop off donations. It was a wonderful experience to see all kinds of people come together and support one cause by loving and supporting children in need.” Julia Towner, 12th grader

Meet Laura

Beatty:Laura is a member at FUMC Gastonia and Director of the Wesley Children’s Choir.

When did you first get into music as a child? My mom was a musicain, a piano teacher and a church musician so I’ve basically been involved in music my whole life.

Were you in any FUMC choirs as a child?Yes, I moved to Gastonia when I was 9. I started off in the Wesley Choir, and played handbells. Then I continued to grow in the program doing Youth Choir, Youth Handbells, Chancel Bells.

You have a Music Education degree and teach Music currently at Hickory. Why did you decide to persue music as a career?I actually always wanted to be a doctor, but music was always there and one Sunday I got to direct the Youth Choir and loved it. That was when I decided to switch. It was divine intervention.

You are now back at FUMC teaching, how did that happen?I believe it was God’s plan all along. I get to take my passion for teaching and for music and combine them here every week.

First United Methodist Gastonia,

It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces during the pulpit switch. It was an honor and a privilege to preach at FUMCG. It’s just an awesome blessing to preach God’s Word each Sunday! Thanks for allowing me to live out my call in Bessemer City and Gastonia! The FUMCBC Administrative Council met January 31st. During this meeting we talked about a vision for the coming year and beyond. One of the issues we discussed is the Education Building beside the Church. Currently we only use it for the backpack program and nursery during the 11:00 worship ser-vice. This building has several Sunday school classrooms, Scout room, parlor and Youth Center. It has great potential and as we grow and work in the community, my hopes are this will become a focal point for church programs and space when reaching out to those in need! We are experiencing so many wonderful and exciting opportunities through this partnership. If you have not visited, I invite you to come one Sunday or visit anytime during the week, just call.

Blessings,Pastor Tripp
