Lennox Library receives grant from LACF The Lennox Community Library received a $1000 grant from the Lennox Area Commu- nity Fund this year. The Lennox Communi- ty Library will be using the grant funds to purchase new children’s non-fiction animal books. The Lennox Communi- ty Library serves all residents of the Lennox School District, which includes the communi- ties of Lennox, Chancellor, and Worthing. The school library serves preschool students and K-6 elementary students from the Lennox Elementary and Intermediate schools as well. This year the Lennox Area Community Fund (LACF) awarded $15,375 to area or- ganizations. Since 2004, over $90,000 has been awarded in grants to civic and charitable organizations in our communi- ties of Lennox, Chancellor, and Worthing. Now LACF committee mem- bers are inviting individuals and businesses in the Lennox, Chancellor and Worthing com- munities to consider a donation to the community fund during the month of November. This month of giving will culminate on December 3 with South Dakota’s second annual state-wide Giving Tuesday. A similar campaign last year was successful for the LACF, with $11,224.15 raised, including a $5000 matching contribu- tion from the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation. The committee has set a goal of $15,000 for this year’s cam- paign. All donations, large and small, increase the impact of the Lennox Area Community Fund by increasing the interest available for grant distribution. TURNER CO. 4-H | From 5 Maddie Boyd of the Dakota Kids 4-H club was second in the senior girls pole bending event at the State 4-H Rodeo held in Pierre. There were eighty-four girls entered in this event. Top judges were announced in five project areas. Receiving awards were Grace Kock in Horse, Kahli Gall for Consumer Decision Making, Katelyn Tieszen for Horticulture, Paige Haase for dairy and Riley Pankratz for livestock. Deanna Gall, Turner County 4-H Youth Advisor, was given the Steve Hanten Memo- rial Award. Deanna has been working with the Turner County 4-H program since 2011. Deanna wants every 4-H member to have fun, learn and grow in 4-H. Even if they don’t get a purple, she wants her 4-H members to feel proud and happy about what they have accomplished. The Mavis Overgaard All Around 4-H Mem- ber is based on youth-in-action activities at both county and state levels, community ser- vice, exhibits and completing a record book. Kara Roshone of the Team Legacy 4-H won the award. Mavis was a longtime leader in the Turner County 4-H program. Several members met all of the qualifica- tions to receive a 4-H project pin. This includes being in the project area for 3 years, doing 2 club talks or 1 county talk in the project area and judging if available. In the senior division, Kara Roshone was first, Madeline Loewe second and Ashton Ross placed third. The last award of the afternoon that was pre- sented were the 4-H Ambassadors for the 2019- 2020 4-H year. Kayleigh Thill and Titus Roesler, the past year’s ambassadors, announced Kahli Gall and Madison Hofer as the new ambassa- dors. They will help to promote Turner County 4-H at different events throughout the year. Turner County 4-H Leaders were honored for the five, ten, twenty and forty years of leadership for their 4-h clubs. Dawn Leber, Mary Lunstra, Kristi Rops and Cal Graber were present to receive their awards at the 2019 Turner County 4-H Recognition Event. Top judges for the 2018-2019 4-H Year were Kahli Gall, Katelyn Tieszen, Pagie Haase, Riley Pankratz and Grace Kock. They learned about their achievements at the 2019 Turner County 4-H Recognition Event. Angel Album quilt raffle winner named The winner of the Angel Album quilt was Elise Hickey (pictured above with the quilt). Organizers of the raffle offer their thanks to all who bought raffle tickets and/or donated. This year’s Angel Album quilt raised $1,477.00. The auction baskets raised $235.00 for a total of $1,712.00. Angel Album organizers say they will be able to continue to furnish Angel Albums to the hospitals they are currently working with and hope to add two more. The Angel Albums are given at no cost to parents who have infant or early loss. Christmas At The Capitol Tree-Lighting Ceremony The 2019 Grand Lighting Ceremony for Christmas at the South Dakota Capitol will take place in the Rotunda on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m. CST. The public is invited to join Governor Noem, First Gentle- man Bryon Noem, and Pierre Mayor Steve Harding as they welcome guests and light the Capitol trees. The Capitol Christmas dis- play includes around 90 trees decorated by volunteers from communities, schools, church- es, nonprofit organizations and state government offices. The holiday display will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily starting on Nov. 27. The last day to view the display is Dec. 26.
