June 17 - July 18Stephanie Schlatter - LandscapesReception July 16, 5:30-7:00 p.m.Jansma Gallery at NCCA-Artsplace, 13 E. Main St., Fremont. 231-924-4022. Stephanie Schlatter is an American landscape paint-er whose work is deeply connected to and rooted in

her native Michigan. She’s best known for her On the Michigan Wine Trail series, which explores the stories of the state’s vineyards and winer-ies through paint. Her artwork has appeared on several Michigan wine labels and is available in wineries and tast-ing rooms across the state. Much of her work also incorporates the scenic lakes on which she spent her childhood.

June 17 - July 18 - Kristi Visser - 100 PortraitsReception July 16, 5:30-7:00 p.m.Jansma Gallery at NCCA-Artsplace, 13 E. Main St., Fremont. 231-924-4022. Kristi set out to do 100 small faces as an act of daily practice during a season in her life that allowed very little time or space for making art. What started out as a discipline turned into her passion. She hopes that you will take the time to meet each face she created and experience a connection while asking yourself as you look into their eyes: What are they feeling? What do they see? What do they long for? Who do they remember? Where are they going? Where have they been? Don’t be surprised if you see something of yourself as you look into the faces of Kristi’s 100 portraits!

Kristi earned a degree in fine art from Calvin College and feels she has been artistic all her life. Recently though, she has been able to commit more time and passion to the work of art and sharing art. She states, “Creating gives me hope and joy personally. My greatest desire is that others will be blessed and inspired by the work that God has given me to do. I create with a variety of mediums on paper, canvas and wood. Every piece is the work of my heart and hands.”

DOGWOOD EVENTS May/June 2015June 26 Cirque Amongus “Circus Day”

There will definitely be an abundance of fun as participants laugh and giggle while they ride unicycles and tiny bikes, walk a tightrope or with stilts, jump rope, do magic tricks, stay atop a rolling barrel, swing on a trapeze, or learn to juggle. In the morning, students will learn each of the 10 different circus acts. After lunch, they chose their favorite and spend the afternoon perfecting it and putting together an act with other participants, assisted by Cirque Amongus instructors and volunteers. At the end of the day, when their families come back, the whole troupe puts on a show with their newly found skills. The daylong program by Cirque Amongus, a Livonia company that brings all the equipment and instructors for “Circus Day”, will promote teamwork, self-esteem and fun throughout the day. Children must be ages 6 - 12 years old to participate and the program will be limited to 50 participants. It will be a full day of activities between 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and followed immediately with a performance for the families at pick-up time. Children will need to bring a sack lunch. Light snacks will be provided mid-morning and mid-afternoon. $30 per child, advanced registration is required.

July 14Black Box Films “Field Of Dreams”Join in on the fun and kick off the 2015 Baby Food Festival by watching the film “Field of Dreams” on the big screen!

“If you build it, he will come.” That’s the ethe-real message that inspires Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) to construct a base-ball diamond in the middle of his cornfield. At first, “he” seems to be the ghost of disgraced ballplayer Shoeless Joe Jackson (Ray Liotta), who materializes on the ballfield and plays a few games with the awestruck Ray. But as the weeks go by, Ray receives several other messages from a disembodied voice, one of which is “Ease his pain.” He realizes that his ballfield has been divinely ordained to give a second chance to people who have sacrificed certain valuable aspects of their lives. One of these folks is writer Terence Mann (James Earl Jones), whom Ray kidnaps and takes to a ball game and then to his farm. Another is Doc Graham (Burt Lancaster), a beloved general practitioner who gave up a burgeon-ing baseball career in favor of medicine. That “magical” field in Dyersville, Iowa still draws thousands of baseball-happy tourists each year. Starring Kevin Costner, James Earl Jones, Ray Liotta, and Amy Madigan. The 1989 film is rated PG and runs 107 minutes. Free admission, donations accepted at the door to help support the pro-grams of the Dogwood Center. 7:30 p.m.
