HongKongElevatedWalkway. ManhaanBridgePedestrianWalkway NewYorkHighLine

IfirsthadthisideayearsagoasIwalkedalongtheHongKongCentralElevatedWalkway.InbuildingthisWalkway,theHongKonggovernmentcreatedanen=relynewretailcorridor,tookconges=onoffofthe

streetsandtheintersec=ons,andencouragedpeopletowalkbetweenbuildingsandgetoutoftaxis.The

ideawasreinforcedinmywalksacrosstheManhaanBridgeWalkwaywhichprovidesnewperspec=ves

onneighborhoodsandarchitectureasitthecrossesintoChinatown,passingCherry,Monroe,Madison,

andHenryStreetsbeforedeposi=ngyouontotheBowery.Lastly,theopeningofNewYorksHighLine

demonstratedthearac=venessofupperlevelwalkingcorridorsandreinforcedmybeliefthatthesewillonedaybeanotherexci=ngelementofourgreatcity.

Todevelopers:Developerswillhavetheopportunitytocontrola1.3milecorridorintheheartofManhaan.Opportuni=eswillbecreatedtoinvestinbuildingslikelytobenefitfromtheSkyWay,andtogeneraterentalandadver=singrevenuefromnewretailspacescreatedonthecorridor.Inaddi=on,fees

couldbechargedforspecialsitua=onsandusageoftheSkyWay.Nego=a=onswithlandlordswishingto

SinceitsopeninginJuneof2009,theHighLinehasdemonstratedthebeautythatcanberevealedwhenwetakeourselvesjustafewstoriesabovetheCityandallowourselvestointeractwithitsarchitectureand

vistasfromanewperspec=ve.Atthesame=me,buildingvaluesandrentrollsinthevicinityoftheHigh

Linehaveskyrocketed.TheHighLinedrawstouriststoanareanotpreviouslyfrequentedandisconsidered

anenormoussuccessforbusinessowners,landlords,neighborhoodresidents,andtheCityingeneral.This

successwilldrivesupportfortheNYSkyWay.

TheredesignofBroadwaybytheDOTbeginningwithTimesSquareinlate2008andcon=nuingtoUnionSquarethroughtheFallof2010hascreatednumerousnewgreenspaces.Thesespaces,formerlypartof

Broadwaystrafficlanes,arelargeenoughtoaccommodatestairwellsandelevatorstoaccessanoverhead
