Gustavo Bou equalized with his fourth goal since his arrival in MLS, Matt Turner made a dazzling save of Bradley Wright-Phillips in second-half stoppage time, and the New England Revolution held on for a 1-1 draw against the New York Red Bulls on August 17, 2019 at Red Bull Arena.

Bou's leveler, coming in just his sixth MLS match, kept the resurgent Revs within three points of the Red Bulls in the crowded Eastern Conference standings. But it opened up the possibility for other teams to overtake them based on results from games played later Saturday.

Marc Rzatkowski's belter gave the hosts a deserved first-half lead. But Red Bulls head coach Chris Armas will rue the other chances his side missed before the break against the team coached by former mentor Bruce Arena.

There were Red Bulls chances after the break. Still, Wright-Phillips must've thought he'd scored when he reached Michael Murillo's cross in the dying moments. Instead, Turner reacted to deny him at the near post.

season. In the season-opener vs. Cincinnati, he tallied two assists in his first start since March 16, 2019 and followed up with a game-winning goal against Atlanta United, his first since May 5, 2018.

    • Since his arrival to the first team from NYRB II in the beginning of 2018, Valot has recorded four goals and eight assists in 22 matches and 1,731 minutes played.

    • With Valot on the field for New York, the Red Bulls have tallied nine three-plus goal games in 20 matches. When Valot is not on the field, New York has had just eight three-plus goal performances in 52 matches since 2018.

    • Valot has also seen a positive on-field relationship with Kaku, in terms of production. In 16 matches when both players are on the field together, Kaku has produced four goals and 10 assists, while recording eight goals and 11 assists in 45 games without Valot.

HELPING HAND • Kaku looks to build upon his first two seasons in MLS

after tallying 21 assists through his first 63 MLS regular-season matches.

    • The Argentine No. 10 already sits second in RBNY's record book with 0.36 assists per game and 0.42 assists per 90 minutes.

    • His 21 MLS regular-season assists are just two shy of cracking New York's top-10 all-time list.

    • Kaku has already recorded at least one assist in all four major competitions in MLS (Regular-Season, Playoffs, Open Cup & Concacaf Champions League).

TOP TO BOTTOM PRODUCTION • The 2020 season opener was no different than how last

season's offensive production went as four different players contributed to the statsheet. Kyle Duncan (1G/2A), Florian Valot (2A), Danny Royer (1G/1A) and Kaku (1G) all contributed offensively. The next two matches have seen New York record their fourth and fifth different goal scorers as Cristian Casseres Jr. tallied the Red Bulls lone goal vs. RSL and Valot scored the game winner against Atlanta.

    • RBNY saw production from almost every player that was on a first-team contract in league play last year. Of the 29 New York players, 26 players saw action on the field, which was the most in MLS for a single team in 2019.

    • The Red Bulls saw 18 different players find the back of the net, which set a new franchise record and tied the league record set by D.C. in 2016. In 2018 when New York tallied 62 goals, there was 14 different goal scorers and 17 assist makers.

    • New York had nine different players tally a game-winning goal.

    • New York was tops in the league for the number of players to contribute offensively. Twenty one of the 26 field players tallied a goal or an assist, which included 18 different goal scorers and 20 different assist makers.

    • With Josh Sims becoming the 20th player with at least one league assist for the Red Bulls in 2019, New York

broke the league record for most players on one team with at least one assist in a single season.

DRAFT CLASS • New York added another player to its first-team roster

following the MLS SuperDraft, signing First Round selection Patrick Seagrist on Feb. 27.

    • Seagrist, an outside back, was a four-year letter winner for Marquette and capped off his Golden Eagle career with a team-best seven assists his senior campaign. The Streamwood, Illinois, native earned All-BIG EAST First team honors in 2018 and 2019. He started 63 of the 65 matches he played in and recorded six goals and 16 assists as a defender.

    • Six of the Red Bulls 27 rostered players have been drafted by New York then signed: 2020 - Patrick Seagrist (10th) 2019 - Sean Nealis (25th) 2018 - Brian White (16th) 2018 - Tom Barlow (39th) 2018 - Jared Stroud (83rd) 2012 - Ryan Meara (31st)

    • On Saturday vs. Atlanta, Stroud made his MLS debut, coming on as a substitute. All six draftees have appeared for New York on the pitch.

YANMAR JERSEY PATCH SPONSOR • In advance of the New York Red Bulls return to action

with the MLS is Back Tournament in Orlando, Florida, the Club announced that Yanmar will have enhanced presence by being featured on the First-Team kit. As the official sleeve-patch partner, Yanmar’s logo will be displayed on both sleeves of team’s uniform for the duration of the nationally-televised tournament.

    • Yanmar has been the New York Red Bulls official Agricultural Machinery Partner, Marine Partner and Diesel Engine Partner since 2015. Yanmar was the first partner to have permanent branding inside of Red Bull Arena and has also featured on the sleeve of the club’s training gear since 2015.

    • The Red Bulls and Yanmar’s partnership extends beyond traditional partnership assets. Yanmar’s Agricultural Machinery equipment plays an integral role in the maintenance of Red Bull Arena’s world-class playing surface. In 2018, Yanmar put its Marine division to work in support of the Red Bull Foiling Generation World Finals held in Miami, Florida.

NATIONAL BROADCASTS • New York will see time on national TV in all three Group

E matches. Once on FOX, once on FS1, and once on ESPN. Two of those matches can also be seen on TUDN.

    • The Red Bulls are currently 1-2-0 this season, winning 1-0 against Atlanta on FOX, while dropping a 2-0 decision to Columbus on FS1 and falling 2-0 to Cincinnati on ESPN.

    • The Red Bulls were 8-3-2 when they were featured on national television last season.

    • New York was 3-2-2 on FS1 with wins over Atlanta, 1-0, NYCFC, 2-1 and Orlando City SC, 1-0. The Red Bulls drew even with Sporting KC, 2-2, and D.C. United, 0-0, while falling to LAFC, 4-2 and Philadelphia, 4-3 in the MLS Playoffs Eastern Conference Quarterfinal.

    • Red Bulls were a perfect 4-0-0 on UniMas/Univision Deportes, defeating San Jose, 4-1, FC Dallas, 3-1, Chicago, 3-1 and D.C., 2-1.

    • The Red Bulls were 1-1-0 in 2019 when their match was on the ESPN network. New York defeated Galaxy, 3-2 and lost at NYCFC, 2-1.

EXTENDED TIME OFF, AGAIN • New York resumed play for the second time this season

after their first long layoff due to the Pandemic.• The Red Bulls played a competitive match for the first

time in over 28 days. To be exact it was 28 days, 21 hours and six minutes since the final whistle of the FC Cincinnati match in Orlando.

    • To break that down even further, it was 693 hours (rounded down) or 41,586 minutes or 2,495,160 seconds.

    • It was precisely 126 days, 4 hours and nine minutes, from the end of the whistle of the Real Salt Lake match to kickoff of the Atlanta United match, since New York had played a competitive match due to the pandemic hitting the United States.

    • To break it down, it had been 18 weeks or 3028 hours (rounded down) or 181,689 minutes or 10,901,340 seconds.

    • Over that span, 19 Red Bulls MLS Regular-Season games have been lost. Nine of which would have been at Red Bull Arena.

ROYER ROLLING ALONG • Danny Royer picked up right where he left off last

season, tallying his 11th game-winning goal to move into sole possession of fourth all-time in franchise history on March 1 vs. FC Cincinnati.

    • Royer, who finished the end of the regular-season with three goals and an assist in the final eight games, recorded a goal and an assist on March 1.

    • The Austrian winger currently sits sixth among New York's all-time scorers with 36 MLS regular-season goals, just three away from cracking the top five.

    • Royer has strung together three consecutive seasons of at least 10 goals and has scored 36 goals in 94 matches since coming to MLS in the Summer of 2016.

ROYER VS. THE LEAGUE • Daniel Royer has scored against 20 of the 25 MLS teams.

He recently checked off FC Cincinnati on March 1.• Including expansion-sides Inter Miami CF and Nashville SC,

Royer's final teams he needs to complete his list are FC Dallas, Houston, and Orlando City.

    • Royer looks to become just the third player in league history to score against every active MLS team they have faced.

    • San Jose striker Chris Wondolowski is the only player in the league to score against every active MLS team, which includes the Earthquakes AND Chivas USA, not including expansion-side FC Cincinnati (May 4). Atlanta forward Josef Martinez has scored against every team, besides his own and expansion-sides Nashville SC and Inter Miami CF.

HOMEGROWN LEADING THE CHARGE • Holmdel, New Jersey, native Sean Davis was named New

York's 13th different captain in franchise history on Feb.

    27. He became the first New York Homegrown to garner the full-time armband.

    • Coming through the Red Bulls system, Davis was part of the Red Bulls U-23 team that captured the NPSL Championship in 2014. He capped off the season as a starter in the championship match and assisted the game-winning goal. Davis also spent two seasons with the Red Bulls U-18s, starting 50 matches, which included a team-best 31 starts in his second season.

    • Davis made his first MLS appearance in 2015, with four starts and 14 appearances in his rookie campaign. He's gone on to log over 9,000 minutes across 130 games played in MLS action.

    • Across Concacaf Champions League and U.S. Open Cup play, Davis has also been a mainstay. He logged eight starts and nine appearances in Open Cup play, while also serving as team captain in 2018. He's seen action in 16 CCL matches as well, dating back to 2016 group stages.

AN AMAZIN' ACADEMY • The Red Bulls Academy system continued to show that it

has the ability to churn out great products.• This offeseason, New York signed the club's 22nd

Homegrown John Tolkin on Jan. 14. He has been a part of the Red Bulls Academy since 2015. He has made 79 appearances during the Developmental Academy regular season and has recorded 15 goals. While in the Red Bulls Academy, the Chatham, New Jersey, native not only received call ups but has featured for the Under-17 U.S. Men’s Youth National squad eight times.

    • This past season, Tolkin played 13 times, starting in nine matches for New York Red Bulls II. He tallied 807 minutes played with three assists. Tolkin recorded his first professional point in his first professional game as NYRB II came back to win 4-3 on the road against Philadelphia Union II, formerly known as Bethlehem Steel, on July 10.

    • New York used at least two Academy Products in the Starting XI and one substitute off the bench in 22 of the 39 matches across all competitions in 2019.

    • Ben Mines needed just 17 minutes before he scored his first career MLS goal in his MLS debut. The Ridgefield, Conn., native was just 17 years, 9 months and 26 days old when he scored, which made him the fifth-youngest player to earn an MLS start

    • in club history, and the third youngest to score, behind Eddie Gaven and Jozy Altidore.

    • Along with Mines, Kyle Duncan, who signed his MLS contract 24 hours prior, started and played the full 90 in his professional debut against Portland on March 10, 2018.

    • Other notable former RBNY Academy products are Tyler Adams (RB Leipzig), Matt Miazga (Reading via Chelsea loan), Chris Gloster (PSV U-21), Timothy Weah (Lille), Juan Agudelo (Inter Miami), Mason Toye (Minnesota United)

CHRIS ARMAS was named the 16th Head Coach in club history on July 6, 2018.

Armas took over as head coach for Jesse Marsch and helped lead the Red Bulls to a league-record 22 wins (post-shootout ERA), 71 points, 43 home points and the club’s third Supporters’ Shield. He then guided New York to an Eastern Conference Finals appearance for the third time in club history.

He has been an assistant coach for three and a half seasons, two of which as the top assistant, guiding New York’s offensive attack. Under Armas’ leadership, the Red Bulls attack has tallied three-straight 50-plus goal and assist seasons, a Golden Boot Award winner (Wright-Phillips, 2016), and a back-to-back Silver Boot Award winner (Kljestan, 2016-17).

Armas was drafted by the Los Angeles Galaxy in the inaugural MLS draft in 1996 after two professional seasons with the Long Island Rough Riders of the USISL.

After two seasons with the Galaxy, Armas was traded to the Chicago Fire ahead of their inaugural 1998 campaign, the same offseason the club acquired Marsch. Armas played a large role in the Fire’s storied run to the 1998 MLS Cup and U.S. Open Cup double in their first season. Armas was named to the MLS Best XI for four straight seasons from 1998 through 2001 before seeing his streak broken by an ACL injury that caused him to miss much of the 2002 campaign. He bounced back in 2003, being named MLS Comeback Player of the Year and MLS Best XI for the fifth time. Armas is one of just four players to earn Best XI distinction five times, second only to Landon Donovan’s seven Best XI selections.

Armas played in 264 MLS regular season games, 260 of which were starts, recording 12 goals and 48 assists. Appearing in 37 playoff games, Armas found a bulk of his success with Marsch at the Fire, winning four Lamar Hunt

U.S. Open Cup titles and an MLS Supporters Shield in addition to the 1998 MLS Cup. Captaining the side from 2003-2007, he was named an MLS All-Star six times and was voted team MVP in 2003.

He was also named U.S. Soccer’s Male Athlete of the Year in 2000. After the Fire’s double-winning campaign in 1998 Armas became a regular for the U.S. Men’s National Team, cracking the lineup just after the 1998 World Cup. He was part of the FIFA Gold Cup squads in 2002 and 2005, and was initially named to the 23-man roster for the 2002 World Cup in Japan before suffering an injury in a friendly leading up to the tournament. In all, Armas earned 66 caps for the United States.

Armas retired at the end of the 2007 season after 12 years in MLS. He served the following season as an assistant coach for the Fire under current Red Bulls sporting director Denis Hamlett. Armas returned to the New York area with his family, serving as head coach of the women’s varsity team at Adelphi University on Long Island from 2011 through 2014. Armas led the program to back-to-back conference title game appearances in the NE-10, and reached the ECAC Championship in 2014.
