CMSC WEEK AT ASPEN/SNOWMASS, CO

TRIP IS FULL

Saturday February 23 – Saturday March 2

7 nights, 5 day lift tickets - Total Price $1,697

This year’s CMSC Week will take us to the world

famous ski area of Aspen Colorado. Four mountains

Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Snowmass and

Buttermilk are sure to offer great fun for everyone.

We’ll be flying out of O’Hare on United Airlines

direct to Denver. We are staying at Snowmass, the

largest ski area of all 4 mountains. The Condos at Top

of the Village at Snowmass, are ski in/ski out, with

elevators in each building, 2 hot tubs, a heated outdoor

pool, and free shuttles to Snowmass Village.

This trip includes many fun CMSC events: Welcome

Reception, Mountain picnic, Apres Ski parties, a

Farewell party, and a theme of “CMSC Goes to

Hollywood”.

When you’re out on the slopes, the harsh elements are bound to take

a toll on your skin. With the sun reflecting on the snow, the wind

whipping around your face, and the cold, dry mountain air, you may

find yourself leaving the resort with both sunburn and windburn, both

of which can make your next day skiing extremely uncomfortable.

Sunscreen is essential for all skiers to wear. At high altitudes, not

only are you closer to the sun, but the atmosphere is thinner and thus

filters less ultraviolet light, putting you at greater risk for sunburn.

Although the sun is especially strong during everyone's favorite blue

bird days, skiers are at risk even during overcast cloudy days when

the snow is falling. Consider a sweat-proof, sport-appropriate

sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. However, an SPF of 60-75

offers the most protection.

The cold wind and dry air can easily cause chapped lips, and your

lips are also just as susceptible to sunburn as your face, so when

you’re selecting a lip balm, be sure that is formulated with an SPF of

at least 4.

Whenever you have your gloves off, whether you’re unloading your

gear, adjusting your ski boots, or locking up your skis, your hands are

exposed to the cold air, which tends to be especially dry in

mountainous regions. No one wants to end a ski day with dry,

cracked hands, so take the necessary precautions and keep your

hands moisturized with hand cream.

""A New Year of Firsts" by Cheryl Dinwiddie

This New year's Skunk trip was full of "Firsts". The first "first" was

pairing up with the Rockford Ski Club members who were very

friendly and very welcoming to the Skunks. The next "first" was our

use of the Rockford Airport (approx. 1hr. 15min. from Arlington

Heights.) We did not have to pay for parking and there were snacks-

n-stuff for purchase before and after going thru security. The third

"first" came from Frontier Airlines (all leather seats, by the way)

who did not charge for our first two bags and was "on time" coming

and going. The fourth "first" was the weather at Winter Park. It was

freezing! The temperature in the morning when the lifts opened was

about10-15 degrees below zero. Each of the three ski days warmed

up to about 4 or 5 degrees above zero. But the cold of the day was

made up for by the warmth and friendliness of our new-found friends

from Rockford Ski Club. You are number one with us Skunks!
