New Year’s Celebration Activities ACTIVIDADES PARA AÑO NUEVO

Paper-Plate Noisemakers Make a noisemaker for each child. Place a large spoonful of popcorn kernels in a resealable plastic sandwich bag. Seal the bag and place it on the back of a paper plate. Fold the plate in half (the bag of kernels inside) and staple the edges closed. Set out crayons, felt-tip markers, or stickers, and let the children decorate their noisemakers. Show them how to shake their noisemakers to make sounds.

Confetti Collages

Let your children help make confetti by tearing colorful paper scraps into tiny pieces. (Or use a hole punch to punch circles out of colorful paper.) Have the children brush glue on pieces of construction paper. Then let them sprinkle the confetti all over the glue to make collages.

Pizza Year Teaching calendar concepts at the

start of the new year.

Help little ones understand the 12 months of the year by comparing them to 12 slices of pizza! Cut a large circle from poster board. Divide the circle into 12 slices; then label each slice with the name of a month and decorate with colors and stickers pertaining to that particular month. Assemble the pizza on the floor in front of your group and have them chant the month names as you point to the slices. Explain that a whole year is just like having a whole pizza!

New Year’s Clock Cut circles and arrow hands from construction paper. Write the numbers 1 through 12 on the clock. Attach the hands with a brass fastener. The children can turn their clocks to mid-night and celebrate the new year! Older children can write their own numbers and use the clock to help learn to tell the time. NOTE: FRRC has a clock die cut that could help with this

activity.
