W hat a great experience being an Airstreamer. As we have traveled throughout the United States, we have encountered many Airstreamers who have “bucket lists” of places they want to visit and many of them in- cluded the Albu- querque Balloon Fest. Joan and I do not have a bucket list, but after having heard so much about the bal- loon fest, we decided to check it out. We are so glad we did because it was amazing. Pic- tures and words cannot describe the beauty of watching over 500 balloons lifting off in the cool air of Albuquerque, or the evening glow of the balloons teth- ered to the ground and firing up the burners to light up the bal- loons. One old timer (11 years at the balloon fest) stated that this year was the best he had ever attended because the winds were just right and the balloons stay up over our RV sites for hours. Getting up at 5:15 to get out on the field and observe all the balloonists pre- paring to launch was not only educational but inspiring. go. It does not matter whether we have the same political or religious beliefs, we can still be friends. We can enjoy and share the beauty and wonder of our world together.

So let me say to you " Congratulations on your Pur-chase"! Travel in your Airstream will open up your world, your eyes and your heart!

Congratulations On Your Purchase Like many of you, we

have just returned from the International Airstream Con-ference in Escanaba, Michi-gan. We are continuously amazed at the beauty we see in the many states so far from our home. Yesterday, we looked at our photos from our 4,000 mile trip. It made me start thinking about the many things we have done and seen in our Airstream.

I was thinking about when we bought our last Airstream and got that correspondence from the com-pany that says " Congratulations on the purchase of your new Airstream". I don't think I understood what we had just bought. I don't think we knew what adven-tures we would take in our little silver home away from home.

Our first big trip about 4 and a half years ago, was to MD Anderson in Houston. We had not planned it that way, but things rarely go as planned in life, do they? While Johnny had treatment there for about 12 weeks, it was our home. The days when we needed respite from the things life brings, our trailer was there. On the days when we did not get good news from the doctors, we still could come back to our little home. On the days when we needed a place to rest and recuperate, it was there. We celebrated a won-drous Christmas in our trailer that year as we hoped for better health in the coming New Year. And the day treatment was over, it was the place where we re-joiced together.

This year we have traveled to Disney World for one son's wedding and traveled to Chicago for an-other son's engagement party. We have gone to places we never thought we would see and met so many people we never thought we would meet. And always we have our Airstream with us. We were so happy not to be staying in hotels, but to be starting and ending our day in our own comfortable bed, cook-ing breakfast in our own little kitchen and looking out our own windows to see the lovely sunrises that her-alded the start of a new day, another adventure.

We have realized more and more, that this " pur-chase" we have made has given us the opportunity to live our life more fully. We have had the opportunity to learn life lessons from being on the road with our Air-stream. But the biggest lesson we have learned is that people are the same as we are, everywhere we

Thank you to Kandy Tillery for all the pictures from Goodlett.

The No Host Rally:

Goodlett, Texas By Betty Jay Foley

On September 20-24, 2017 The Texas Plains Unit invaded the Goodlett Cotton Gin which is now a museum and RV Park. Our hopes were high, and we were all excited because so many members said they were coming! We had 10 rigs to attend.

But wait — part of the rally was left unassigned. How does a person or club invite people to a week-end party and have NO HOST??? We thought fast and collectively, and through that ever present piece of technology– the cell phone, we emailed, and texted the words: “ I’ll do this,” or “ I’ll bring that,” or I want to present a craft”, or on and on. We volunteered. Before the night was over each day’s events and meals had been planned. The response was mind-boggling, and we had the best rally ever!

A big thank you goes to all who helped make this rally such a memorable event. Dick Lanham rose bright and early to make coffee each day. His buddy, Ron Foley laid out sweet treats for breakfast. No one went thirsty or hungry.

Thank you to Bill and Debra Price for hosting a meal for all at the Depot in Quanah.

Our pot luck on Saturday was a huge success. Sue Essary provided two casseroles, Mary Lou Clark brought hers as well, Jan Thompson made the salad and the rest of the group brought sides and des-serts. This meal was delicious and filling!

Not only did we eat well, but we girls got a chance to paint our own set of salt and pepper shakers using the Airstream theme. Kandy Tillery provided all the goodies, and we painted our mas-terpieces, in two settings. Thank you, Kandy.

If there was a shade under any tree, a group of us could be found laughing and talking. It was just sooooo relaxing.

Each day was beautiful and full of billowery clouds and a gentle wind. We all did not want it to end, but on Sunday we packed up and left. That’s when the rain set in , and it rained all the next week in Lubbock. During that week Ronny and I talked and talked about what a wonderful rally we had at Goodlett.
