Have you ever asked your stylist at

Roman Holiday why or how she became a

stylist or nail tech? If you have, have you

ever asked any of the stylists next to her

or on the other side of the salon? I am

willing to bet there are not any two sto-

ries the same. We all had different back-

grounds and logic. But if you ask any one

of us why we have been doing our profes-

sion for so many years, I am willing to bet

that you will get the same answer: it’s be-

cause of you.

We love what we do, but we love all of

you even more. You are the main reason

Roman Holiday has survived our 48 years.

Not all has been wonderful, like when we

lost our lease on 122nd. It was a scary

time for us, but with your help and sup-

port, we stayed together and built the Ro-

man Holiday you see today.

We have lost many of our friends in all

our years together, but we have added

so many more. You have brought us your

families and your ups and downs, but we

hope we have helped with our ears and

our touch.

Thank you for being our clients and

friends.

Relief for Allergy Sufferers Acupuncture and Oriental medi-

cine have been used to treat aller-

gies for centuries, and studies have

confi rmed that it can be helpful for

allergic conditions including allergic

rhinitis, asthma, eczema, hives and

food allergies. According to Oriental medicine, treat-

ment is directed toward clearing the nasal passages,

supporting the immune system and strengthening the

systems of the body to prevent allergic reactions from

recurring. Sufferers of seasonal allergies also fi nd relief

using acupuncture and traditional medicine.

What Are Seasonal Allergies?

Commonly called hay fever or allergic rhinitis, a sea-

sonal allergy is an allergic reaction to an environmental

trigger that is typically only present for part of the year,

such as spring or fall. Pollens that are spread by the

wind are usually the main cause of seasonal allergies.

People who are allergic to pollens are also often sensi-

tive to dust mites, animal dander, and molds.

Spring is traditionally the main season when allergies

What is Estate Planning and Why is it Important? Every person who has money or owns property that

will not be expended or disposed of during his or her

lifetime has an estate. Estate planning is simply the

process of deciding how such assets will be distributed

now or after death. It includes taking steps to insure

that decisions are carried out effectively and economi-

cally. These steps may involve titling assets, naming

benefi ciaries, and creating such documents as wills

and trusts. In complex situations, more is involved.

Such estate planning can be intimidating, but it

need not be. It does, however, involve time, energy,

and determination. Some serious decisions need to be

made.

Because estate planning involves people and caus-

es that person cherishes, it may also be a deeply emo-

tional process. For that reason, it is well worth the ef-

fort to acquire expert legal advice. Many people have

taken the effort to plan for the disposition of their es-

tate, but time and unforeseen circumstances befall us

all, and the estate planning documents that may have

been prepared some years ago may no longer be ad-

equate for the current situation.

It is estimated that almost 70%

of Americans do not have a will. It

has been observed that families

start and stop serious estate plan-

ning discussions up to seven times

before completing the process. An-

other concern for many is planning

for incapacity, which is also often

overlooked, and yet there is a 65%

chance that each one of us will ex-

perience some period of incapacity

and a 25% chance of suffering a

long-term period of incapacity. Preparation for inca-

pacity is often done in conjunction with general estate

planning. Various legal tools are available, including

appointing a surrogate or substitute decision-maker

to assist when incapacity comes. Thus, there are plan-

ning tools available for making healthcare decisions as

well as for fi nancial decisions.

As a fi nal thought, it is an often-overlooked fact

that if a person does not make out a will, then upon

death the state makes one out for that person. One

size does not necessarily fi t all. An experienced and

successful estate planner will have the necessary le-

gal knowledge in order to put together the documents

that will give a person peace of mind and be individu-

ally tailored to the needs of the client.

When styling your hair with

a blower, make sure to get it completely dry. If your

hair is not thoroughly dry, underlying curl or cow-

lick (which is half a wave) will reappear.

After the basic style is in place, use the cool but-

ton to set the style.

Hair is like cloth: it is made of a type of fi ber. As

in ironing cloth, if you iron in a wrinkle and want to

correct it, you either wet it or add more heat. Then

you let it cool to keep it the way you want. That’s

where the cool button comes in. Press the cool but-

ton while blowing your hair to set the style, as in

making it roll under or getting it to fl ip up.

Finish with a good hair spray that is not too wet.

The correct hair spray can be one of the best styl-

ing aids for your fi nished look.

These suggestions are for creating a smooth

look. In most cases, to create a curly look with nat-

ural curl or permed hair, the opposite is true. Ask

your stylist to help you — it could be fun!

blossom because of new growth on trees and weeds. Fall

ushers in a whole different set of blooming plants, and is

also a time of increased leaf mold, so is the second-worst

season for allergy sufferers. Airborne mold spores can be

found almost year round, along with other common aller-

gens such as dust, dust mites, and animal dander.

About 26 million Americans endure chronic seasonal al-

lergies, while the number of people with milder symptoms

may be as high as 40 million, according to the National

Center for Health Statistics.

Seasonal allergies are caused by the body’s hypersensi-

tivity to substances in the environment. Symptoms primar-

ily involve the membrane lining the nose, causing allergic

rhinitis, or the membrane lining the eyelids and covering

the whites of the eyes, causing allergic conjunctivitis.

While there are many medications to treat the symp-

toms of seasonal allergies, these treatments can cause un-

wanted side effects, such as drowsiness and immune sys-

tem suppression as well as an over-reliance on medications.

These side effects have motivated many people to search

for alternative approaches like acupuncture and Oriental

medicine to manage their allergies.
