Support Providers
Full release teachers
Work with new teachers as Support Provid-
ers in a non-evaluative capacity
Represent the highest standards of the pro-
fession and possess a strong educational phi-
losophy
Receive ongoing mentor training through
collaboration, research, and professional de-
velopment opportunities
What We Do
Help Participating Teachers (PTs) write
teaching goals based on the CSTPs
(California Standards for the Teaching Pro-
fession)
Coach the PT in regards to classroom man-
agement, planning engaging lessons, assess-
ment, and so much more
Help PTs reflect on and improve their teach-
ing practice
Program Purposes/Objectives
Provide an effective transition into the
teaching career for first- and second-year
teachers in California
Improve the educational performance
of students through improved training, in-
formation, and assistance for participating
teachers
Enable beginning teachers to be effec-
tive in teaching students who are culturally,
linguistically, and academically diverse
Ensure the professional success and
retention of new teachers
Provide intensive, individualized sup-
port and assistance to each participating
beginning teacher
Ensure an individual induction plan for
each participating beginning teacher, based
on an ongoing assessment of the develop-
ment of the beginning teacher
Ensure continuous program improve-
ment through ongoing research, develop-
ment, and evaluation
Program Components
4-6 observations a year, using common language
from Admin evaluation form
Weekly meetings between the participating
teachers and their Support Provider
One seminar a month (after school hours)
Successful completion of a portfolio each semes-
ter with the following components:
Individual Learning Plan (ILP)
Class profile
Site orientation
Evidence of reaching CSTP goals
Analysis of Student Work
Differentiation
Lesson Plan
Reflection of teaching practice
Professional Development
Administrator’s Responsibilities
Be aware of the Seminar dates and try not to
schedule other meetings or responsibilities
during those times.
Provide release time if a Participating Teach-
ers wants to observer another teacher.
Promote engagement in Induction as part of
developing as a professional educator.
If there are certain goals you would like your
teacher to work on, share that with the Sup-
port Provider
