“Then Peter said to Jesus in reply ‘Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us make three tents, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.’ He hardly knew what to say, they were so terrified. Then a cloud came, casting a shadow over them, from the cloud came a voice, ‘This is my beloved Son, Listen to him.’ Suddenly looking around they no longer saw anyone but Jesus alone with them.” Today we join the three apostles, the two prophets and Jesus on the

Mount of the Transfiguration. A mountain in the bible is where God meets His people. The two great persons representing the law and the prophets, and Jesus, have a new experience of God's presence. Like Peter today, it is good we are here for worship, or for private time reading, or reflecting on this scripture account. Like Peter we may not know what to say in the awesome presence of the Almighty. Following the voice from the cloud, we pause to listen. What is the Lord asking of me as I begin this second week of Lent? Is He offering me words of comfort and consolation in my life as I struggle to draw closer to Him? Is He wishing that I consider how special it is to spend some time apart to grow in holiness this Lent? As I descend from the mountain is it time for me to invite others to experience the great love Jesus has for us? He is the Father's beloved an so am I. As I look around may I too see only Jesus.

“Pedro dijo a Jesús: ‘Maestro, ¡qué bien estamos aquí! Hagamos tres carpas, una para ti, otra para Moisés y otra para Elías”. Pedro no sabía qué decir, porque estaban llenos de temor. Entonces una nube los cubrió con su sombra, y salió de ella una voz: ‘Este es mi Hijo muy querido, escúchenlo’. De pronto miraron a su alrededor y no vieron a nadie, sino a Jesús solo con ellos. Hoy nos unimos a los tres apóstoles, a los dos profetas y a Jesús en el Monte de la Transfiguración. En la biblia, una montaña es en donde Dios se encuentra con Su pueblo. Jesús y las dos grandes personas que representan la ley y los profetas, tienen una nueva experiencia en la presencia de Dios. Como Pedro hoy, qué bien que estamos aquí para adorar, para leer en privado, o para reflexionar sobre lo que cuenta la escritura. Al igual que Pedro, quizá no sepamos qué decir ante la impresionante presencia del Todo Poderoso. Siguiendo la voz de la nube, hacemos una pausa para escuchar. ¿Qué es lo que el Señor me pide al comenzar esta segunda semana de Cuaresma? ¿Me ofrece El palabras de Consuelo en mi vida a medida que intenta acercarme a El? ¿Desea El que considere yo cuán especial es dedicar tiempo aparte para crecer en santidad esta Cuaresma? A medida que desciendo de la montaña es hora de que yo invite a otros a experimentar el gran amor que Jesús nos tiene. El es el hijo amado de Dios, y yo también. Ojalá que cuando mire a mi alrededor vea sólo a Jesús.

La trasfigurazione occupava un posto importante nella vita e nell’insegnamento della Chiesa primitiva. Ne sono testimonianze le narrazioni dettagliate dei Vangeli e il riferimento presente nella seconda lettera di Pietro (2Pt 1,16-18). Per i tre apostoli il velo era caduto: essi stessi avevano visto ed udito. Proprio questi tre apostoli sarebbero stati, più tardi, al

Getsemani, testimoni della sofferenza di nostro Signore. L’Incarnazione è al centro della dottrina cristiana. Possono esserci molti modi di rispondere a Gesù, ma per la Chiesa uno solo è accettabile. Gesù è il Figlio Unigenito del Padre, Dio da Dio, Luce da Luce, Dio vero da Dio vero. La vita cristiana è una contemplazione continua di Gesù Cristo. Nessuna saggezza umana, nessun sapere possono penetrare il mistero della rivelazione. Solo nella preghiera possiamo tendere a Cristo e cominciare a conoscerlo. “È bello per noi stare qui”, esclama Pietro, il quale “non sapeva infatti che cosa dire, poiché erano stati presi dallo spavento”. La fede pone a tacere la paura, soprattutto la paura di aprire la nostra vita a Cristo, senza condizioni. Tale paura, che nasce spesso dall’eccessivo attaccamento ai beni temporali e dall’ambizione, può impedirci di sentire la voce di Cristo che ci è trasmessa nella Chiesa.

ST. VITO ~ MOST HOLY TRINITY 2018 SCHOLARSHIP

Two St. Vito-Most Holy Trinity scholarships are available to be awarded

TWO GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS who will be enrolling in a full-time

undergraduate course of study in the Fall.

Scholarship applications are available at the parish rectory’s office. Please come to the rectory to

obtain an application which should be completed and returned to the office by March 31, 2018.

All requirements must be met to be considered

All are invited to come and pray the stations of the Cross will be prayed each Friday of Lent at

7:00PM in English and 8:00PM in Spanish.
