New Romney The night of Perseids Thursday, 12 th of August – the night almost all of us waited for for so long was finally there. The night of the Perseids followed by millions of people all over the world also took place for us in New Romney. The “Perseids” are a meteor shower which return every year in the first half of August. In the days between 17 th of July and 24 th of August it reaches a maximum and you can see reams of shooting stars when the conditions are ideal as for example a clear sky without clouds. What actually happens is that dust particles dash with a high speed into the atmosphere and lighten up air molecules. Therefore the shooting star is not the dust particle itself but gets visible when the ionized air gets enlightened. The first observation which is known was around 2000 years ago in China. In Europe the first noted surveillance took place in the year 811. In 2010 the Perseids reached their Maximum in the night of the 12 th of August to 13 th of August between 10 pm and 4 o'clock in the morning. Immediately, after 10 pm shooting stars started to fall down like raindrops. For most of us it was one of the most beautiful nights ever seen. While talking about random stories we always got so excited when we have seen another marvellous shooting star. For at least two hours, this beauteousness was followed by us. It did not matter if we saw small or quite big ones, we tried to catch as much as possible (personally, I stopped counting at 40) to make as many wishes as possible. Adoptable – environment and all related to it changes every time, every day, every hour in our life. The night of Perseids

Thursday, 12th of August – the night almostall of us waited for for so long was finally there. The night of the Perseids followed by millions of people all over the world also took place for us in New Romney.

The “Perseids” are a meteor shower which return every year in the first half of August. In the days between 17th of July and 24th of August it reaches a maximum and you can see reams of shooting stars when the conditions are ideal as for example a clear sky without clouds.

In 2010 the Perseids reached their Maximum in the night of the 12th of August to 13th of August between 10 pm and 4 o'clock in the morning.

We all met in front of Foreshore and made ourself comfortable at the beach. Some of us took some blankets and laid down to observe the sky.

This event, this night makes people speechless. It is one of the most incredible things you will never ever get bored of.

Staff Presentation – Andrius 2 What are your main hobbies/interests in life?

I’m really a fan of basketball! I play also pretty good (played in the first team of my city at the age 15). I also like creating videos: generating ideas, writing scenarios, acting, making montage. If you would like to I can show some videos of mine (in Lithuanian of course). And now 2 main interests left to mention: the first would be eating! Staff Presentation – Elisa 3 What are your main hobbies/interests in life?

I like cooking, most of all for my family and friends...the best moment is when you sit around a table, eating, drinking, laughing...when there is food and something to drink, there is always fun ;) I also like travelling, getting to know new people, new cultures...you can always get something good from other people! I love going out with my friends, in cinema, restaurants, clubs or just stay at home and have a dinner, watch a film together. Finally I like watching commercials on TV, foreign languages, have a walk in parks...and I love my cat!!!!

Where are you from and what makes your city worth visiting?

I come from Italy and I live in a town near Milan. Even if the town is quite small, you can have whatever you want in the area around: you can enjoy parks and countryside, or have a bath in the wonderful Lake Como (lots of VIPs have villas there, George Clooney included!). There, you can visit the ancient villas and parks and in summertime you can practise sports like surf, kitesurf, wakesurf, water ski. But of course the main attraction is Milan! In this big city (the first urban area in Italy and the fifth largest in the European Union), you can find a lot of attractions. There are all sorts or clubs, pubs and restaurants, parks and theatres. There are also a lot of historical and artistic sites: i.e. Duomo, Castello sforzesco, pinacoteca di Brera and Cenacolo Francescano, where you can admire the “Last supper” of Leonardo da Vinci. Don’t forget that Milan is one of the Fashion and Design capitals...so take a free afternoon and prepare your credit cards!!!! :)

What are you studying and what do you want to do in the future?

I just took my bachelor degree in “Marketing, Corporate Communication and International Markets” and, after this internship I will look for a job in the Marketing field. But my dream is to open a restaurant.

What makes life worth living, according to you?

Everything!!! Joy, pain, happiness, suffering, success and failures. All the experiences we live build our personality and let us feel alive...we should be happy every day at the mere idea of living. Let`s live all we can live and take the most from Life... Life is definitely the biggest gift we have!

Tell me something we didn’t know about you.

I always sing out while driving...and people laugh a lot when they see me so fond of singing :)

Which qualities are you looking for in people around you?

I like positive and energetic people, open-minded, tenacious and able to take risks. I don’t like people that are always in bad mood. I usually get on with people who, like me, choose always the hardest way and prefer suffering instead of not trying.

Event 7

Speed Dating

Monday, the 9th of August the “Speed Dating” took place in Foreshore. Afterit was postponed the first time, we finally had the opportunity to find our perfect match among the New Romney Staff! Six girls(Marianne, Awa, Ilona, Elisa, Elvira, Sofia) and six boys(Thomas, Jonathan, Raphael, Romain, Alex, Vaggelis) had five minutes to talk to their first partner. The first questions were sometimes superficial as we didn`t really know what to talk about . But soon everybody came out of their shells and started to chat about this and that. Some tried to just find out about interests and hobbies they had in common while others went one step further and asked the partner if he/she was single or has a girl/boyfriend. Some talked about their first love, former relationships, love at first sight or just which type of partner they were looking for. Each time the five minutes passed too quickly and almost everybody felt like speaking longer. Some just ignored the time as they didn’t want to leave their partner, and, therefore spent two rounds with the same person. Afterwards, we had to fill in a sheet of paper about different topics like “Do you think your partner is attractive?” or “Do you share the same interests?”. These sheets were evaluated the next day to find out who was the perfect match and who wanted to have the mobile number of whom. It was both an occasion to know each others better and an opportunity for the Newbies to integrate. Furthermore, we heard many charming and heart-rending compliments in such a short time!

Some conversations stayed more or less shallow while others got really philosophic. For example, when the question “What is love for you?” was asked, we could have talked about it all night long!

To summarize, this evening was full of surprises. We had the opportunity to get to know beautiful and fascinating personalities, and I think nobody will forget that night so soon!

Article – The 5 scariest places in the world 8 1 Winchester House, San Jose, CaliforniaA crazy landlady of the mansion Sarah Winchester was building the house for the whole of her life, and it isreported to be haunted. Mansion has 160 rooms, countless number of staircases leading to the ceilings, narrow corridors, windows and doors leading to nowhere. Some of the rooms have 13 windows and every staircase, but one, has 13 steps. Medium told Sarah that there was a death curse on the Winchester family, therefore if she wants to live, she should start a new life and build a new house, but she should never stop work, otherwise she will die. The house had been designed into a labyrinth to confuse and discourage bad spirits. This mansion inspired Stephen King to film “Rose Red”, also the horror movie “The Haunting” was based on the legends that surrounded the mansion.

2 Catacombs of Paris, Paris, FranceThe Catacombs of Paris is a network of tunnels and caves that runs for more than 300 kilometres under the city. The walls of burial labyrinth are completely filled with skulls and bones. ‘Cemetery of the Innocent’ alone held more than thirty generations of human remains. As the new cities were appearing around the cemeteries, there was no place to expand graveyards, but only up. The ground grew more than ten feet above the road. People who lived in close proximity to the graveyards were torturing from the disgusting smell. Some of the cemetery walls broke, throwing rotting bodies onto the street. Soon after, disease took hold of those living in near areas, and people began dying from the pestilence spread by the corpses, the decision was made to start emptying the cemetery and to place the bones into the network of tunnels under the city.

3 The Mütter Museum, PhiladelphiaThe Mütter Museum is located in one of the oldest Universities in the United States, it is highly professional medical museum. There are presented different pathological specimens, medical oddities, wax figures and old medical equipment. As well as this, there is a collection of specimens of Siamese twins, preserved organs and even bodies. A nine-foot-long human colon that contained over 40 pounds of fecal matter which originally came from a sideshow act called the human Balloon; the body of the Soap Lady, whose corpse turned itself into a soapy substance called adipocere better known as grave wax. The conjoined liver from the famous Siamese twins Chang and Eng Bunker; a piece of tissue removed from the thorax of Abraham Lincoln's killer; and a section of the brain of Charles J. Guiteau who killed the U.S. President James A. Garfield.

4 Museum of holy souls, Rome, ItalyThis is a little museum that was founded by ex-rector of the ‘Chiesa del Sacro Cuore’ in Rome, and it is located in the sacristy of this church. Museum is storing evidence of immortality of the deceased souls. For example, there is a nightcap with fingerprints of sooty fingers of Luisa le Senechal. On the 7th of May 1879 deceased woman came to her sleeping husband at night, tweaked his nose several times and revengefully took off his nightcap. The widower, who sometimes allowed too much freedom to himself, explained that in that way Luisa wanted to remind him that he should respect a mourning. However, everyone who attempted to make photos of show-pieces in the museum failed, so it could be a good reason to check the museum yourself.

5 Mary King's Close, Edinburgh, ScotlandIn 17th century the whole Britain was experiencing a huge plague epidemic. In Edinburgh, infected people were isolated from the public, so that illness would not spread across the population. All people who were ill with plague were placed in the designated area and they were never able to got out of there. According to

the stories told, little girl Ann also got ill with a plague and her parents brought her to Mary King’s Close in 1645. Her ghost still lives there, and tourists claim that she is grabbing their hands or legs. In order to wheedle a little girl, tourists and staff bring a lot of toys to her. She never takes these toys, however it is believed that she like to look at them.

A trainee not-so-true story

Hello Morning! Today I can feel it in my fingers- and in my toes too- that you’re going to give me an amazing day! Walking to work in a sunny day has never been nicer! In the kitchen I grab a quick and I’m ready to start . I open the computer

and I immediately have a problem: where the heck are my files? I go to the , already starting to lack some confidence... This feeling only increases when they tell me I just had to click on a button to make them appear O_OI have been for 10 minutes only and I already have 10 Sims waiting for me. People are pushing me to on this and that project, so I decide to change my

feeling to , but nobody cares. Of course!

I decide to some useful stuff about marketing and put it into practice, but today

everything seems to go wrong and I feel like .

Around 10 a.m they call me to . I have been cooking for about two hours when I start wondering why there is smoke in the kitchen- and why on earth does the oven smell???

After lunch I have to my mess and I finish around 4, just to turn around and

see a who wants to arrest me for messing up in the building and annoying the

neighbours with the smoke. I really would like to come rescue me, but I’m left with the , who has no intention at all to save me from the worst. Suddenly, I decide to run away – even though I have high heels and a skirt and,

honestly, I feel like . I start running towards the beach and I can see a ship- a

real one, not the pub, you morons! There’s a on the shore. When I see him a

brilliant idea hits my mind. I start to him and he decides to take me on his ship. I don’t know if he wants me for my skirt and high heels or because I was very

convincing in , but anyway. I will have to , for everyone again, but since there are some pretty nice guys I really don’t care. Bye NR! I’m off to Calais!
