Hank Williams' career was brief and incendiary. Most of those fortunate enough to have seen him in concert say thathe was a captivating performer. The performances heard here were recorded on acetate discs (meant to be played onlyDESTINED TO SURVIVE:once or twice) that were shelved in 1951, and they gradually faded from common memory. In the 1970s the acetateswere saved from the trash by a WSM employee and eventually given to Hank’s daughter, Jett. By late 1983they had achieved part of that goal by signing to WEA. "Take on Me" took three times to become a hit in the U.K.,eventually hitting number two in November 1985. Going one better in the U.S. mainly due to the wide exposure of itsstunning video on MTV, which fused animation with real-life action, their only further hit there was "The Sun AlwaysShines on T.V." which became a U.K. number one in early 1986 helping take the albumHunting High and Lowto theTop Ten. Mostly an album of synth pop, the press were quick to dismiss them as a teeny bop sensation; however,there was more toa-hathan met the ear inWaaktaar's writing, and a more mature effort,Scoundrel Days, was releasedin October 1986. More focused, it had a stronger band feel thanks to its live drumming, displayed to great lengths on"The Swing of Things and lead single "I've Been Losing You" -- a shock to critics at the time. You've probably heard them - from their huge drum & bass-meets-soul anthem and No. 1 single ‘Feel The Love'; their‘Later... with Jools Holland' TV performance; their historic BBC Radio 1 Hackney Weekend extravaganza (which sawtheir second ever live show become the most shared performance of the entire festival); or been immersed in thethrilling energy of their live shows, DJ sets or groundbreaking videos. Rudimental have achieved global recognitionamong tastemakers at lightning speed - starting when The XX blogged Rudimental's airy soulful house offering‘Spoons' in February.

Taking a "traditional" songwriting approach as much as an electronic one in their music making, Rudimental mix liveinstrumentation (Hammond, Rhodes, horns, live bass etc) with digital programming. While Kesi (keyboard player/percussionist) is a self-confessed hip hop head, former Deja Vu FM DJ, Piers (Hammond,keys) names jazz and blues as influences alongside grime artists like Dizzee Rascal. Leon (DJ) remembers using hisdinner money to purchase the latest vinyl and attributes the band's success to an ability to retool and subvert the bestof UK underground music (garage, grime, dubstep, drum & bass) in their own style. Fellow band mate Amir (guitar andkeys), grew up in Camden and won a PRS song writing award in 2001. He spent the winnings on a guitar and via amentoring scheme, met Plan B who taught him how to play his first chords aged 16. He went on to earn nods as oneof NME ‘Top 20 Hottest Producers'. Amir says of the Rudimental sound: "The unifying thing is the soul influence andthe bass influence, those two things are always there"

"Rudimental" (so-named after the Rudiments book of piano exercises Kesi's music teacher drilled him on as a child)write as a group pulling from one another's strengths. The result of this sound-clash style is bubbling with energy, withthick, layered basslines, live instruments, and contagious hooks that both reflects London and translates outside thecity.

Human, yet cutting-edge music, it creates a strong connection with the listener: as Piers says "It's important for us totell a story as much as we can about the things we're passionate about - what's happening on a grassroots level incities, because that's where we come from".
