Dear Sir/Madam, dear readers,

New construction has been booming for around ten years. The con-struction industry and housing construction especially are a significant driving force behind the German economy. In 2016, 278,000 new homes were erected, approximately 300,000 in 2017. This year in 2018, this number is set to grow even higher - up to 320,000 homes. But then we'll hit our limit. The work factor is significantly restricted: We're losing specialists in construction - and we're only seeing a fraction of trainees replace them.

The bottleneck of processing is becoming a problem for tradespeople – and a problem for the industry. For us manufacturers this largely means that we have to grapple with products that make life easier for the contractor and the business in the trades. This is precisely the core business of TECE: from the individual product through to the complete system. Many details ensure bit by bit that secure, rational and fluid working processes are obtained – and top it off, we offer solutions for manual prefabrication in your workshop or industrial prefabrication from the factory.

In 2018, we also have some new products in the range that make pro-fessional work enticing. Let me pick out a new product that to me illus-trates this very well. We have developed the Seal System construction plug, which simply secures the sealing layer on the wall bushing - while classic plugs often unavoidably damage the seal during fine assembly. Annoyance and consequential costs are programmed in - and that's after the completion of construction. Nobody needs that, it damages the result and ensures that trade businesses lose the motivation for work.

In 2018, we will once again focus at the large and small scales entirely on ensuring that you can go about completing your projects to the full both simply and hassle-free. To ensure that work is fun for both you and your company's employees in future too.

In order to prevent potential sources of faults in the mounting of sealing tape and to clearly define the interface between the trades, in addition to the existing range TECE now also offers the TECEdrainline shower chan-nel with factory fitted Seal System sealing sleeve. The sealing sleeve for installation in the liquid or strip composite seal is fitted on the flange of the channel body.

The channel body is available in six standard lengths between 700 and 1500 mm and compatible with all other elements of the TECEdrainline modular system. This consists of numerous covers, channels and

The covers are available in stainless steel and glass, as a tileable channel or for natural stone floors. Stainless steel grates are available in different patterns, bright polished or matte brushed. Anyone who prefers using glass in the bathroom can choose between the standard colours green, black and white. The safety glass with rounded edges sits firmly on the robust stainless steel body and is durable despite the transparent look.

TECE shower channels have been sold over a million times – a symbol of technology tried and tested over many years and high customer satisfaction. Is the TECEdrainline now even better thanks to the factory fitted sealing sleeve?

Christian Hüging: No, it's just as good – the TECEdrainline hasn't been tried and tested a million times for no reason. The version with fitted sealing sleeve isn't a replacement, it's an alternative. On the one hand, in order to more clearly define the interface between the fitter and tiler due to last year's DIN change, and on the other hand to simplify the composite seal on the channel body.

Which applications is the new version suitable for?

Christian Hüging: Always when you need a straight shower channel and where the current standard lengths between 700 and 1500 mm are sufficient. Thanks to the flange being reduced to 15 mm, not only can you install it in the floor but flush to the wall too. This means the wall upstand pre-viously required for installing the channel flush to the wall is no longer necessary. The classic TECEdrainline will therefore in future come without the punch hole on the flange that made this working step easier. The special version factory fitted wall upstand remains available as before, however.

The "plate" channel means the channel can be tiled like the rest of the bathroom and is also available for the angled channel in various sizes. A special channel is available for any thickness of natural stone slabs and tiles which ensures that the refined look created by a natural stone floor is hardly disturbed. Whereas before the drainage gap was framed by narrow stainless steel edges, now only a small slit is left in the natural stone – so there's no longer anything getting in the way of a comprehensive floor design.

Clever and hygienic

The TECEdrainline modular system includes five drains for different requirements and structural features – from "extra-flat" through the "max" drain with particularly high drainage capacity to a vertical version for ceiling bushing.

TECEdrainline shower channels are comforta-ble to clean and allow maximum hygiene. The jointless stainless steel body shows no gaps or screws and is therefore particularly easy to clean. It has an internal gradient for improved water drainage and self-cleaning effect.

Larger format tiles are totally in fashion in bathroom design. Combined with floor-level design – which has long since become a standard in new builds – they ensure a generously spacious feeling. With fully tiled shower areas, the areas around the shower channel (because of the sealing flange) often have to be filled with small, custom pieces of tile, which disrupts the tile mirror and thus the elegant look.

 Beautiful, practical, flush-to-wall

It works differently with TECEdrainprofile: The stainless steel profile is quick to cut to length where required and can thus fit perfectly between the edges of the shower area. The tile mirror is not disturbed by the drainage and the overall aesthetic picture is retained. Standard drains used in renovation are often too high for floor-level shower levels due to the lower floor constructions, however, which is why residents of old buildings frequently have to do away with the comfort of a threshold-free, accessible shower area. To enable installation in old buildings, an extra-flat drain is now also available in addition to the standard drain. It is 65 mm in height and has a connection on the side for the DN 40 drain line. The flexible Seal System sealing collar ensures additional sealing safety. The collar sim-ply clicks into the drain and is then integrated into the surface sealing.

The shower profile made of stainless steel has an integrated gradient for improved water drainage and a self-cleaning effect. The shower water is then guided through the drain located in the centre of the profile. The profile simply wipes clean – removing the grate for shower channels is now a thing of the past. To reach the drain, the profile lid can be folded up via a “push function” using a targeted press of the finger, and it can be removed without additional accessories. The odour trap can then be removed without any aid, simply cleaned and the drain line is easily accessible if required.

STANDARD-COMPLIANT WALL BUSHING SEALING

If wall-mounted fittings are installed, the connection leads puncture the sealing layer intended to protect the building structure against moisture. The fitting connection is created by the fitter, while the tiler creates the seal. DIN 18534-3 published in summer 2017 defines the requirements for the seal: Accordingly, a connection lead must be guided through the sealing layer and then the gap around this must be grouted. This re-quirement can theoretically be met with long wall disks or sealed valve extensions. These would have to be suitably shortened after tiling, which could lightly damage the tiles.

In practice, valve extensions are often primarily used by the fitter in fine assembly. The fitter uses a construction plug as a placeholder for the shell installation phase. The tiler now adjusts their sealing sleeve to the construction plug, which is however replaced in the final assembly by the significantly thinner valve extension. This often then leaves a round gap than cannot be closed reliably or permanently with silicone. Problem: The fitter is liable as soon as they unscrew the construction plug. The new standard seeks to alleviate this conflict and promotes the extension of the pipeline with a spacer if this is insufficient to cover the sealing level.

Reliably sealed after the trade handover

With the sealing set for wall bushings – consisting of construction plugs, sealing sleeves and wall cuffs – TECE offer a solution that means that fitters can stay on the safe side. The sealing sleeve slides onto the wall disk when the construction plug is screwed in and forms a seal from the outside. The tiler adjusts their seal with the wall cuff to the sealing sleeve. The sealing sleeve stays in the wall when the construction plug is unscrewed and the seal remains untouched. The valve extension is then guided through the sealing sleeve. The thread connection between the valve extension and the wall disk is also secured: If this becomes loose, the leaking water will run forwards and out of the wall.

The TECE Seal System safety construction plug clearly defines the inter-face between the tiler and fitter. The tiler's work is no longer influenced by the fitter. In turn, the fitter can work with valve extensions as normal and has an extra safeguard against loose valve extensions. Additionally, the sealing sleeve reduces the danger of an acoustical bridge, which transfers sound from the flowing water to the wall. With an external diameter of 38 mm, the sealing sleeve is compatible with many wall cuffs with an elastic lip and wall disks from other manufacturers that have an existing all-around edge or a surface without grooves, protrusions or embossing.

A fitter's demanding everyday work on the construction site is character-ised by a frenzied pace – especially when multiple trades meet directly. The coordination of construction processes with regards to construction materials, systems and prices also costs a lot of time. Time pressures can thus give rise to oversights in assembly and time delays. Possible conse-quences: Construction faults, reworking and expensive liability claims. To make work on the construction site a little easier and above all for your own employees, TECE recommends preassembling sanitary walls.

Prefabricated sanitary walls standardised the construction process, reduce costs and install at your location with minimal time expense and in an un-complicated way – no matter whether it's a new or old build. Renovations where the residents stay in situ go faster – which spares the nerves of the inhabitants. Unproductive setup time at the building site also becomes superfluous. The standard-compliant implementation of all relevant fire, sound and heat insulation measures is also simplified and can be carried out in a more relaxed and painstaking fashion. The easy to use TECEsmartwall software makes planning TECEprofil sanitary walls quick, precise and easy. It runs online in all browsers.

Detail, material and calculation lists can be generated with just a few bits of information and the user then receives definitive bids and quotes. The wall can be equipped with all of the installation groups and modules from the TECE portfolio in a photo-realistic depiction with various per-spectives. Parallel to this, the material requirements are captured automatically and a list is generated containing units and prices. TECEsmartwall can be accessed at smartwall.tece.com.

Alongside the steel plate set for as-sembling the safety support arms, an additional wooden panel set that lets you install all safety support arms is now also available for the TECEprofil Geronto module that.

The TECEprofil Geronto module makes the toilet barrier-free. In the worst case scenario, the safety support arms can also be attached to the module in retrospect. The elevated cross-beam creates a comfortable and ergonomic seat height of 48 cm. With the wooden panel set con-sisting of two water-tight wooden panels made of multi-glued veneer, the wall can be directly panelled with plasterboards even if the fitter per-forming the work doesn't know which grip needs to be installed. They don't need to wait for the grip set, which avoids an unnecessary time delay in the construction process. The wooden panel set is characterised by its high universality because it is compatible with all manufacturers and you don't need any pins to site the grips.

UNIVERSAL SOLUTION FOR ASSEMBLY OF SAFETY SUPPORT ARMS

The wooden panel set lets you assemble safety support arms easily. The metal panel also offers the fixture and positioning of a conduit for cabled solutions.

Machine-based blown-in insulation technology (CWI technology) makes it possible to pro-fessionally install room-height TECEprofil and TECEsystem installation walls as installation shafts. This means classified ceiling partition systems for fire protection can be done away with. Even if plasterboards fail, the prevention of the transmission of fire and smoke across the floor in accordance with Sec. 14 MBO 2016 is still ensured by the stability of the CWI technology. The responsibility for fire protection is assumed by the specialist CWI company.

Compact filling holds back flames and smoke

The finished insulation is compact and not only meets fire protection requirements but also the requirements of advanced sound insula-tion in accordance with DIN 4109 and private legal sound insulation for SSTI-III in accordance with VDI 4100. TECE recently had sound in-sulation tests done on pre-wall installations in front of light dry-walls at the Fraunhofer Institut in Stuttgart. Among other things, the sounds from the sanitary installation to adjoining rooms were tested in accordance with DIN 4109 and VDI 4100. The results confirm the installation's excellent sound insulation properties. Another side-effect of the thermal decoupling of cold and warm areas – a significant contribution to drinking water hygiene.

TECE procures various specialist CWI compa-nies on request for the application of this pro-cedure. In projects with prefabricated sanitary walls, the technology offers the HVAC entrepre-neur the ability to delegate partial constructions they find less attractive and simultaneously to create a sanitary installation with an increased quality standard.

SOUND INSULATION, FIRE PROTECTION AND THERMAL INSULATION IN ONEThe partitioning of fire protection installation systems across the floor is an obligatory part of TGA installation. This takes a lot of time, however, and often blocks qualified personnel who could complete more profitable work. Blown-in insulation offers an attractive alternative for pre-wall installations.

In order to always be able to offer their customers high level quality, specialists should always stay up-to-date – no matter whether they are technical or legal specialists. That's why the TECE Academy offers HVAC professionals, architects, planners and representatives from the trades and housing sector regular knowledge exchange and advanced train-ing opportunities in the form of practice-oriented training sessions and seminars. Here, participants have the opportunity not only to get to know TECE products on a theoretical level, but also to put their newly acquired knowledge directly into practice.

The wide range of seminars on offer comprises valuable information on correct assembly, design possibilities and project planning. Particularly current is the seminar "Building Drainage – A detailed look at sealing interior spaces", in which the new DIN 18534 that standardises the sealing of interior spaces is presented in extensive detail. Craftsmen can use this certified software for standard and development-compliant planning from the provider ConSoft to perform household calculations relating to heating and sanitation simply, quickly and with legal certainty – now also with pipe systems from TECE.

The big advantage of using ZVPLAN for compa-nies is not just the time saved during planning, but of course the time saved on the construction site too. The fitter can stick to the plans generat-ed by the software and the installation – of pipe networks, for example – can be carried out in a much shorter space of time. In addition to the planning, which is always conducted according to the latest regulations, forms are automatically generated for KfW subsidies.

TECEfloor range expansion

UNDERFLOOR HEATING:

NEW SYSTEMS FOR DRY-WALL CONSTRUCTIONTECE is expanding its underfloor heating range with two new dry-wall con-struction systems: The 30/16 dry-wall construction system is a standard system for combination with commercially available dry screed elements and the 16/12 universal panel is optimised for minimal floor construction heights as well as for integration in the wall and under the ceiling.

In the renovation of old buildings, the options for the retrospective instal-lation of underfloor heating are limited in many cases due to the structural conditions. Conventional brick-wall construction systems are often unsuita-ble because of their weight. In cases like this or in building projects where long drying times need to be avoided but not the comfort of underfloor heating, dry-wall construction systems are the right solution. The heating pipes are laid within the insulation layer and the heat is transferred to the dry screed panels quickly and efficiently via baffle plates with a large surface area.

Heating comfort even at a lower installation height

The TECEfloor 30/16 dry-wall construction system is suitable both for use beneath commercially available dry screed elements as well as in com-bination with wet screeds. It consists of a 30 mm-thick base plate made of expanded polystyrene (EPS) and heat conduction plates available in a

choice of galvanised steel or made of aluminium to take 16 mm heating pipes. The thermal insulation panel meets the requirements of DIN EN 1264.

The TECEfloor universal panel 16/12 is suitable for minimal floor installation heights or integration on the wall or ceiling. The thermal insulation plates in the especially flat heating panel, which is just 16 mm thick, are made of aluminium and are glued to the base plate across their entire surface. The extremely high compression strength means there is no need for dry screed elements as a load distribution plate. Instead, the universal panel can either be directly laid with parquet or laid with tile or laminate when used in combination with the TECEfloor insulation mat. This enables ex-tremely low installation heights of just 29 to 33 mm including floor covering.

Due to their highly efficient heat distribution the TECEfloor dry-wall con-struction systems save energy and are ideally suited for combination heat pumps or solar heating. The low storage mass lets you adjust the room temperature quickly: Heating and cooling of the underfloor heating is fast, which allows you to regulate the heat of the room to your needs.

RELIABLY SECURE EVEN WITH HEAVY STRESSUnderfloor heating systems are also interesting for use in industrial buildings due to their economic energy consumption. TECE offers a new, five- layer TECEfloor PE-RT pipe with an extra thick outer layer especially for such applications. Sleeve fittings are suitable for this pipe as coupling and manifold connections.

When industrial underfloor heating is installed, the pipes are often moved over rein-forcing steel mats and also handled rather carelessly. That's why TECE is expanding its pipe range with the new TECEfloor 5-layer PE-RT pipe with an extra thick outer layer for reliable operation in the industrial sector. With the robust conditions on the construction site, a roughly 1 mm thick outer layer reliably protects the pipe laid in the oxygen diffusion layer. Damage to the diffusion protection layer leads to the heating water silting up and the build-up of corrosion in the system.

In addition to the optimum layer construction, the pipe offers very high flexibility, high impact resistance as well as good resistance to tear formation. The new pipe type is available in three dimensions: 16 x 2 mm, 20 x 2.25 mm and 25 x 2.5 mm. A polyethylene material is used here that has increased temperature resistance (PE-RT type II) and is comparable to cross-linked polyethylene in terms of creep strength.
