XMAS RETAIL SURVEY 2016 This year, ATTEST has surveyed active shoppers to identify the hot trends for Christmas 2016, to help with your seasonal planning. What are the hottest gifts this year? Has Brexit effected consumer confidence? New consumer shopping trends. What would you like for Christmas? Question #1 2016 has been a challenging year for Britain, so we started our report by looking to find out how people will treat themselves this Christmas. Attest asked our respondents, what would they like for Christmas? The responses were varied and detailed. The most popular answers revolved around clothes (3% of total responses) and money (7%) with a strong showing from apple products, particularly the iPad (2%) and iPhone 7 (1%). The most popular result amongst men was Money (2%) although there were many iterations around gaming systems which if grouped together would prove the most popular and canvas 9% of the responses. On average 50% of respondents will be shopping on their smartphone this year. How do you principally research what to buy for Christmas presents? Question #4 T here is clearly an influence that retailers can have on the Christmas gift purchasing process through Online Advertising, with 12% of respondents citing this as a principle influence. ATTEST SAYS: www.askattest.com North South Divide: People from the South-East were one of the least likely to listen to friends recommendations for gifts with only 12% listing this as a principle influence. In the North-West 19% of respondents listed friends as a principle influence. Will you be buying your Christmas presents from the same brands as last year? Question #5 There is a clear increase in loyalty for retailers over brands. Something that could influence future discussions between brands and retailers as prices are squeezed this Christmas following Sterling's decrease in value.
