This newsletter is dedicated to the search for "reintegrative knowledge and for the fullest use of all human potential" as seen in Gunnar Johansen's grand vision of the reintegration of the arts and sciences. It contains a selection of poems, essays, arti- cles, and book reviews related to Gunnar Johansen and his contemporaries. Also in- cluded are transcriptions of letters and some reprints of performance reviews. Many of the essays are written by the editor.

This journal, first published in 1997, pre- sents the proceedings of the Tureck Bach Research Foundation's annual symposiums. The articles cover such diverse disciplines as physics, botany, mathematics, and music and examine the interconnectivity between them. For example, mathematicians ex- plore how their discipline and their ap- proach to it might benefit the study of music and vice versa.

The articles are of substantial length, and some include bibliographic references; dia- grams and drawings are common. Short bi- ographical sketches of the authors are in- cluded as well as lists of their selected publications.

This journal contains interviews with per- formers, articles on early music, and re- views of festivals, concerts, music, and books. Primarily in English, the reviews are short but well written. The articles are of moderate length, and some conclude with a selected bibliography. The online presen- tation is commendable, and the site in- cludes guidelines for contributors.

This journal examines the use of technol- ogy in music and the impact that this tech- nology is having on music in a variety of id- ioms and genres, including multimedia, performance art, and sound sculpture. The journal's purpose is to further the dialogue among musicians, engineers, and those in the computer industry. Examples of articles include "Spectromophology: Explaining Sound-Shapes" and "Frequency Structure in Electroacoustic Music: Ideology,

Function and Perception." Articles are heavily footnoted and include numerous references. Also found in each issue are lengthy editorials as well as announce- ments. A compact disc is sent free to sub- scribers each year.

Electronic Musician hosts a Web site as- sociated with its print magazine at http://www.emusician.com. The site offers an archive of past articles, the table of con- tents for the current issue, and information on subscribing to the printjournal.

The Maud Powell Signature temporarily halted publication with volume 2, number 1 because of insufficient funding. The jour- nal, devoted to the contributions and achievements of women in classical music, was published in five issues from summer 1995 through April 1997.
