By all indications, the hot-rod market continues to thrive in today’s economic climate. As the hobby evolves, a younger group of enthusiasts is bringing fresh ideas and expanding the traditional boundaries of what qualifies as a hot rod. For many of today’s hot rodders, the “good old days” were the

’60s and ’70s, and vehicles from those model years are in demand. Trucks and late-model musclecars are also growing in popularity.

According to the Hot Rod Industry Alliance’s “2017 Biannual Report,” the primary reasons hot-rod accessorizers identified for modifying their classic cars were to restore to original or near original condition, add more horsepower/go faster, and to personal-ize them. On the following pages, you’ll find entries from the 2017 SEMA Show New Products Showcase to satisfy all of those desires for a variety of car and truck model years. Personally, I think trends are forever evolving. An opinion of what classi-fies as a “hot rod” depends on who you speak with. The definition of a hot rod, in my opinion, has changed dramatically since my early days of hot rods and racing. Certainly, the advancement of electronics has helped change the course of trends. For example, when a builder can significantly reduce his or her wire harness size and configura-tion by utilizing Bluetooth switches. For us older guys not ready to make the leap into the electronics world, we still can get respect from the young computer generation with the resurgence of the Flatheads and early and unusual V8s utilizing fuel-management systems they most likely have never seen.
