Mr Cyrille Bret, PhD, is Senior Auditor to the National Inspection for Administration and Associate

Professor, National Institute for Political Studies. After completing the National School for Government

and the National School for Humanities, he completed his PhD in the Sorbonne University and the

University of Geneva. He taught political philosophy in Moscow State University, Cardozo Lowa School,

Ecole Polytechnique, and Ashoka University.

Mr Niccolo Rinaldi is the European Parliament Head of Unit, Asia, Australia and New Zealand

Directorate-General for External Policies of the Union. He was elected to the European Parliament in

2009. He is a member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Group since 2000.

Mr Matin Bek is the Head of Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) of the Government of

Afghanistan. He has served previously as advisor to the Ministry of Interior and also as Deputy Minister

Afghanistan for four years.

Dr Shteiwi obtained his Ph.D. degree in Sociology from the University of Cincinnati. He is currently the

Director of the Center for Strategic Studies at the University of Jordan. He has over 20 years of experience

as a professor at the University of Jordan, having taught in sociology, the Human Rights, Development and

Gender Studies programs. Furthermore, his curriculum includes experience as advisor and consultant for

government bodies, the World Bank, UN and other international organizations and research institutions.

Dr Hans Joachim Giessmann is one of the Executive Directors at the Berghof Foundation. Prior to his

current position, he was the Director of Berghof Conflict Research. Before joining Berghof in 2008, he was

the Deputy Director of the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg,

where he is still affiliated as a professor with the university's Faculty for Social Science. He is also on the

Board of Directors for the European Master Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation in Venice,

Italy.

Dr Nasharudin Mat Isa is currently the Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Global

Movement of Moderates Foundation. He has also been appointed as a panel member of the Consultation

and Corruption Prevention Panel of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for the term

August 2016-2017, a member of the Deradicalisation Panel which is headed by the Ministry of Interior,

Malaysia in addition to being a member of Majlis Perundingan Islam (MPI), a national consultation council

on Islamic affairs.

Mr Jeppe Olsen is a security expert and has worked in the international arena (energy, security,

democratization, elections) since graduation, Institute of Political Science at Aarhus University, Denmark,

organisational development and leadership.

Mr Sanjar Sohail is the owner and publisher of Hasht e Subh ("8am"), Afghanistan's largest daily

newspaper. Hasht e Subh is an award-winning newspaper with significant outreach throughout

the country's main provinces, as well as a large web-based following. He has more two decades

of experience in Afghanistan's media sector, and has been an active contributor to drives for

democratization in the broader region through outspoken advocacy for freedom of expression.

Dr Marc Hecker is director of publications at the French Institute of International Relations (IFRI)

and editor in chief of the journal Politique Etrangere. He holds a Ph.D. in political science from

University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and is a researcher at the Center for Security Studies at

IFRI.

Dr Harvey Whitehouse is Chair of Social Anthropology at the University of Oxford and a

Professorial Fellow of Magdalen College. His research focuses on the role of ritual in the

evolution of social complexity. His many books include Inside the Cult, Arguments and Icons,

and Modes of Religiosity. He is currently the recipient of an Advanced Grant from the European

Research Council examining the effects of rituals on group cohesion and intergroup

competition in special populations. He is a Founding Fellow of CRIC.

societies as in Iraq, Syria and Ukraine, We face terrorist attacks from most unexpected sources. We face the consequences

of climate change, depleting water resources, and sudden shocks in food supplies. Most of all, we fail to find solutions to

the growing problem of inequality.

This Global Symposium will provide the answers of - How will these two worlds co-exist or clash in the twenty first century?

What will be the final outcome? Will 21st century be the century of transformation to post-human level or will this be the

final century of marking?
