OLYMPUS’ new STYLUS TG cameras take brilliant imaging to new heights – and depths

Southend-on-Sea, 8 January 2013 – It takes speciali st training to feel

comfortable 15 metres underwater and a specialist c amera to capture

that dimly-lit world with the same radiant picture quality as if you were

shooting on land. The new flagship of the Olympus S TYLUS TOUGH

range, the TG-2, is that camera. As with the TG-1 b efore it, the TG-2

supplies light to the sensor through a remarkable, extra-bright

maximum aperture 1:2.0 high-speed lens. Together th ey capture

excellent images in conditions that leave lesser co mpact cameras in

the dark. For fans of background blur, the manual a perture priority

option is a category rarity while close-up and macr o lovers benefit

from 200mm* telephoto power as close as 1cm from th e subject. Of

course, the TG-2 also spoils outdoor enthusiasts li ke bikers and

climbers. With GPS tracking, 240fps high-speed movi e recording for

super slow-motion playback and – best of all – a pe ace-of-mind

guarantee: it’s shockproof**, freezeproof**, crushp roof** and

waterproof** to an unprecedented degree. If you use your camera

closer to sea level, the STYLUS TG-830 and STYLUS T G-630 are fast

and flexible good value alternatives. The TG-2 is a vailable in black or

red from early February 2013 for £349.99. The TG-83 0 is on sale from

mid-March for £249.99 in black, red, blue or silver and the TG-630 from

early February for £169.99 in black, red, blue or w hite.

The TG-2 gets TOUGH on tough light

If you always take ‘challenging‘ over ‘relaxing‘ and ‘both’ over ‘or’, you’ll

love taking pictures with the uncompromising STYLUS TG-2. This fun

compact camera delivers pristine full HD movies and stills in all

kinds of conditions – from low light 15 metres underwater to fast-

moving, auto-focussed winter sports and fascinating close-ups of the

natural world. Key to its outstanding credentials is the super-bright 1:2.0

high-speed (25-100mm*) lens that combines with iHS technologies: the

TruePic VI image processor and 12-Megapixel low-noise, high-sensitivity

backlit CMOS sensor. With the TG-2, close-ups are a rich source of

fabulous shots. You can effectively boost zoom from 4x to 8x with no

discernible loss of image quality thanks to Super-resolution Zoom. Unlike

comparable macro modes with a fixed focal length, Olympus’ macro system

operates as close as 1cm with focal lengths from 30 to 200mm*, allowing

you to capture breathtaking microscopic detail with professional-looking

background blur. And here the TG-2 has another ace up its sleeve. Even in

the high-end compact class, its manually selectable aperture priority mode

is exceptionally rare. It’s ideal for blurring the background with portraits or

ensuring consistently crisp focus with deeper compositions such as

landscapes.

Expandability is a big advantage of owning a TG-2. It can be adapted to

capture an even wider range of images, in even more extreme conditions,

with a full range of accessories. For example, the fisheye converter for

capturing wider shots even underwater or the tele converter that increases

the zoom by 1.7x. To boost the deep-sea capability of your camera still

further, the PT-053 underwater housing lets you shoot right down to 45

metres for just £249.99.

The TG-830 makes Full HD movies in superior formats

The STYLUS TG-830 is all about worry-free. It’s crushproof** to a force of

100kg, waterproof** to a depth of 10 metres, shockproof** to a height of

2.1m and freezeproof** to -10°C. Of course, it’s al so about convenience –

and glorious picture quality. In some respects, the TG-830 even outguns

the TOUGH series flagship – with the choice of recording smoother fast-

moving subjects in the Full HD 1080/30p format, or in 1080/60i, which is

ideal for extracting still images on a PC. Alternatively, you can use Multi

Recording to capture Full HD movies and 16-Megapixel photos at

the same time – or record in 120fps (HD) or 240fps high speed

movie mode for dramatic slow-motion playback of action scenes. Whatever

the format, GPS and e.compass automatically register where your films and

photos were taken, so you can easily store and review them by location.

Like the TG-2, the TG-830 retrieves information on more than 700,000

landmarks in 180 countries and even records what direction the camera

was pointing. An optional underwater housing is available (for £229.99) that

keeps your camera pressure-proof down to 45m deep.

The affordable TG-630 combines trademark TOUGH imaging power with

child, water, shock and freezeproofing. Like every next-generation TOUGH

camera, it boasts iHS sensor and image processing technologies, Full HD

and high frame rate movie recording as well as 11 creative filters and the

FlashAir™ wireless compatibility that makes it a pleasure to transfer

images to your cloud or social website of choice.
