Editorial Due to the unprecedented pandemic situation, life in Bangladesh has become topsy-turvy like the whole world. Despite the unfeigned attempts taken by the Government for a well balanced life, the eect of pandemic is tangible in education, business and commerce and also in private sectors. As a social organization, Presidency is not an exception. Never-theless, the time-befitting measures taken by the school management and the vigorous eorts of the e cient teachers, our students have succeeded facing this heavy distress. The astounding capacity of all concerned has already been well proven. When COVID-19 has severely frozen the normalcy of human life and the reputed schools idled away their time, Presidency has not sat back for a single moment rather stirred up and inspirited the whole family spon-taneously. During lockdown, our enthusiastic students kept themselves busy with their studies round the clock. The recurrent conduction of Online classes, CLASSMARKER Assessment and above all, the academic aairs through Zoom Cloud Meetings and WHATSAPP groups are the conspicuous instances of this virtual reality. However, distinctive activities reigned all over the last academic session. Our energetic and enthusiastic learners put their steps in every possible way. In curricular and co-curricular activities, their amazing performances have truly bewildered us. As regards academic excellence, they were not lagging behind rather our talented students have been placed in world’s top universities with 100-140% scholarship.

It’s time to sign o the last session and welcome the new session 2020-21. Let’s create much more brilliant minds and look for a better world.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought our world to a s t a n d s t i l l . Albeit all

the challenges we are facing at present, the current situation has also brought about new opportunities for us to become more productive and creative. During the lockdown, Drishty Chittagong arranged an online public speaking competition to help students become more eloquent and keep in touch with the outside world. Nowshin Nawar of Class VII after beating many in first and second rounds, qualified for the Final Round held on 19th May, 2020. It was nerve wracking to speak in front of the judges while she knew that thousands of viewers were watching her through Facebook live. Yet Nowshin made it without any stammering which gave her a gleamof hope for the results. She felt r e l i e v e d when the j u d g e s declared h e r s e c o n d in the F i n a l Round.

My Beginning as a DebaterMoinuddin Chisty, Class IX

Before my first virtual workshop on BP (British Parlia-mentary) debate, life was chained at home with online classes and gaming. At the beginning of the workshop, I got nervous after losing two practice debates. However, I was selected for the two day long BP debate competition titled CSDS Fund Raiser 2020. Two teams from Presidency International School : PADs A (Fahmida Faiza & Auronee Ahmed) & PADs B (Tousif Tanvir Alam & MD. Moinuddin Chisty) participated. Eventually PADs (Presidency Association of Debaters) moved to the final competing with experienced and amazing debaters across the country. We secured the 4th position in the Final after battling with university level debaters. We were awarded prize money for t h e a m a z i n g performances in the Final. This experience will certainly enrich us to bring more laurels for Presidency in future.

Md.Ishmam–Ul–Haque GREETINGS to

INTERNATIONAL ONLINE CONFERENCESMd. MohiuddinDepartment of English

Presidency International School is committed to provide an international platform to its students so that they can expose themselves internationally. In this regard, PIS has been organising International Online Conferences for the students of both middle and senior school.

The first international online conference hosted by PIS with dierent schools worldwide was held on 12June, 2020. Students aged from 13 to 15 years and teachers from Poland, Azerbaijan, Oman, India and Indonesia had the oppor-tunity to collaborate with us . The two-hour long interactive session created an opportunity for our students as well as students from around the globe to interact with their age group and enrich them with the knowledge of dierent cultures and heritage.

Presidency International School also joined another online session hosted by the State Public School Shahkot, India on 15 June, 2020.Six students from Grade IX discussed about their respective countries and impact of COVID19 on our life & education.

As Presidency International School believes in the concept of 'Total Education', it has been providing Global Standard Education from its inception. Every year, a good number of students from Presidency secure their positions in various global ranked universities with full scholarship. Besides they have also been successful to get admission in the public universities of Bangladesh. Success of Presidency students in higher education has proved the myth 'English medium students don't get chance in Public Universities' wrong.

Resilience During

PandemicOwing to the global COVID-19 crisis, we have transitioned our education system from traditional mode of teaching in person to online platform. Our teachers have worked round the clock in order to make the abrupt shift seamless. Not only did the transition to online schooling help to mitigate the impingement on the education of children due to the closure of school, but it has also further taught them to adapt to changes at a very early stage of life. I feel, learning to accommodate changes is an essential life skill for managing oneself and our students will be benefitted profoundly in the long run. Above all, since students are confined within their homes, regular interactions with teachers and classmates are crucial for their mental wellbeing. We are particularly grateful to the parents of our junior students who have contributed immensely towards the smooth progression of the process, given that the students are too young to be well versed in operating digital equipment or devices. Every day, since the initial introduction of distance learning, we have worked towards improving the experience of e-learning and we have come a long way.We, the hardworking teachers, the cooperative guardians and the enthusiastic students- the entire Presidency family, are virtually well connected. In the face of such a di cult time, this is indeed an extraordinary achievement.

Of Grief and Gratitude Jasmeen Fatema Head, Department of English

Not long ago, I was sitting at my desk in PIS, going through some scripts I had to finish by that week. I distinctly remember having David Wallace Wells’ book, ‘The Uninhabitable Earth- A Story of the Future’ on my shelf. Little did I know, of course, that a few months later the entire human population would find itself desperate-ly trying to fix that future and those scripts might be one of the last I would check in a while. Since the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, everything has been far from usual. free-spirited children have been locked indoors and their free soaring imaginations have been caged. And it’s not just our children who feel estranged from reality, we’re all facing new challenges in these unprecedented times. I’ve never felt less inspired, but despite all hurdles, the show must go on. Although that seems like a mountainous undertaking, especially in these times, the only thing that can keep us on our foot is compassion. Even though most things in our lives have come to a halt, the only thing that must persist is looking after the people we love and being there for them. And when everything else fails, the power of a good deep breath or of a hearty laughter with dear ones should not be underestimated. Gratitude may be the one thing that unites us the most, even amidst so many tragic losses. I am sure we are all grateful for the things we were used to taking for grant-ed. The grocery store employees at whom we hardly care to spare a smile at or the healthcare workers whose names we never ask are all vital to our lives now. I hope we gain a more empathetic view for these professionals who are proving to be a lifeline. Our family members with whom we hardly get the chance to spend quality time with are now doing their best to make sure we’re safe and sound. I hope we reevaluate the blessing of families in our lives. I hope we’re grateful. And when we do get out of this unprecedented situation, whenever that might be, I hope we won’t forget this feeling.

Zoom - A Unique ExperienceMomotaz AbedinDepartmentof English

Stay Home, Stay Safe – with this motto the whole world is fighting Covid–19 which has made a global impact in the past months and continues to hit most of the sectors, with education being one of the most aected ones. No wonder, the children as well as the parents feel emotionally and psychologically drained at this juncture. At such a time, Presidency International School is the pioneer among the few institutions in Chittagong which have come up with the idea of online classes for students to continue their respective academic year. The school has arranged zoom classes for the students. As a teacher, conducting zoom classes has been a new as well as an enthralling experience for me. The classes have also been a blessing for the students. The percentage of attendance was astonishing as well . The students had always been enthusiastic to attend the classes. I am really proud of my students. However, we had to face some hurdles, too, along the way. Both the teachers and the students had to encounter connectivity problems. Sometimes students could not attend the classes for network issues. But I must say, the pros outweigh the cons.

My Experiences of Online ClassesTaskia Sharmin Department of English

Never have I imagined that a small mobile phone in hand would become a great source of memorable experiences of my teaching life. Even before the pandemic started, I didn’t know that it was possible to take classes at home! Students are not only sitting at home and attending classes online but also submitting their assignments and moreover taking part in the examinations through online. When all the educational institutions were closing down in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, at that moment our government also decided to do the same for a certain period of time. This step of our country rendered us without any work except passing the time idly. Suddenly I heard that in our school, online classes would start soon. Hearing this I felt nervous and thought whether I would be able to take classes online properly. It was naturally unusual to me as I used to teach students face to face in my classroom. Slowly and gradually it became easier to me as we have been trained.lBefore going for the online process, we held mock classes posing some-times as students and other times as teachers. Our coordinator monitored the mock classes. All of my

colleagues helped each other during the training sessions. When online classes started, our students joined with full enthusiasm. Every day we would make new plans to make our students interested in online classes. Our main aim was to keep them involved in the learning process all through with no break o studies in this pandemic. Regardless of some technical problems, we could make it possible to engage all of our students in online classes. We will nevertheless have to make a better and prosperous country in the long run.

A Race Against TimeAnika TasnimDepartment of English

Such is the ongoing situation that can nonetheless be called an apocalypse. The world seems shattering apart. But it’s not the world that’s collapsing, rather it’s the massive casualties experienced by human civilization. It’s theoretically analyzed that the earth confronts an epidemic at an interval of a century. But the stance that time has brought us to is nothing but gazing at the living land of zombies, where an unseen contagion is forcing us to confine ourselves like animals in a cage. And why not! At times, at the deepest corner of thoughts, while being alone amidst news of death rally; a thought that pops out is- maybe we have been brutal to mother earth to such an extent that she herself has blown the honk of pandemic war.

Depression befriended with anxiety, agony, guilt, perplexity, dilemma and fear. Every day, looking at the news bulletins, hearing the statistics and scrolling the never-ending timeline of social media, compels us to heave a sigh of insecurity and unconsciously we keep chanting “O Allah! Please save us!”Time can never be gauged to add to its mysterious velocity. But nonetheless, we are feeble humans. We tend to qualify time with adjectives like, good, bad, happy, sad, memorable and what not! Besides that, we also try to look for an opportunity to cure our realization of helplessness by utilizing time best suited to given circumstances.

Talking about UTILIZATION of time, not everyone can scheme for the same. And that wondrous capability has been well proven by Presidency International School. What else can be so considered so chivalrous than running a race against global Pandemic? This race is not the race of scientists or doctors. But a race against hard times that brings life to work through virtual reality. The COVID-19 has shockingly managed to freeze the stream of normal life and the suerings are beyond imaginations. Even after such heavy infliction of miseries, PIS did not let life sit back rather kept the entire family energized with fruitful spontaneity.

Ever since the school decided the lockdown of school gates minding the global law for security, the authority did not let go of the zeal of educating pupils. Rather they opted for upgrading themselves by pushing the bound-aries of abilities it had. The continual conduction of online classes and academic aairs via Zoom Cloud and WHATSAPP groups are glaring examples of this virtual reality. We might be apart physically, but the PIS family has altogether cured that distance with empathetic commu-nications.

The initiatives are not only for professional fulfilment rather the entire eort soothes bruised minds with empathized touch of distant communication. The teach-er-student relationship was strong, but now it has grown stronger. We visually meet each other almost twice or thrice a week. Not only that, but also we are tentatively in touch via text messaging 24/7 either individually or in groups. We, the teachers open our hearts and so do the students. Such feelings have sometimes brought smiles to our faces, sometimes we wrinkled with worries, cried sympathizing and laughed felicitating joy as well.

Importance of Physical Exercise during lock downMd. Abdul KarimHead, Department of Physical Education

It’s been a few months now since the stay-at-home order was issued and so, it may be quite obvious to lose your motivation to work out. Though staying indoors during this pandemic is import-ant, it is equally important to ensure good health as well as to stay fit. As I myself am a fitness trainer, here are some tips from my side for you so that you can redeem your workout motivation. •Do not change your sleeping timetable. Sleep is really important for ensur-ing a healthy lifestyle. And, waking up early in the morning is the best you can do to use sleep as your weapon to stay fit.•Do some skipping. This is a great overall body workout. Just 20 mins of skipping can help you burn a great deal of belly fat.•Do push-ups. This is another form of workout that you can insert in your routine.15 push-ups in the morning and 15 at night would do great for your fitness.•Walk, walk and walk even in small spaces. Walking around or walking on the spot can help you remain active. If you have a call, stand or walk around your home while you speak, instead of sitting down.•Perform 10 squats. Take a short rest for 60 seconds and repeat this 5 times. 50 squats in a day would add great strength to your legs.•Plank. Support your forearms firmly on the ground, with the elbows under the shoulders. Keep the hips at the level of the head. Hold for 20–30 seconds (or more, if possible), rest for 30–60 seconds, and repeat up to 5 times. This exercise strengthens your belly, arms and legs. •Do some leg-raises. Start by lying down on your back and raising your legs. Keep your legs straight and lift them all the way up to the ceiling until your butt comes o the floor. Slowly lower your legs back down till they're just above the floor. Hold this position for a second and raise your legs back up and repeat. For parents, who have a lot of household works to do as well as handle their children, just take turns to get the workout done. It is really import-ant for you to stay healthy for the overall wellbeing of your children. Let’s take this quarantine as an opportunity to enhance our body fitness and fight this pandemic together.

It was night. Umair and Maria went to their beds. They were trying to sleep. Umair could not sleep. He got up and called Maria.“Are you awake, Maria?” “What has happened, Umair?” asked Maria. “Why are we at home? Why can’t I go to school?” cried Umair.Maria explained, “We are at home because of COVID-19.”“What is COVID-19?” asked Umair.“ It is a bad illness. Coronavirus does this to us. It transmits from human to human,” said Maria.“Is it very dangerous?” enquired Umair.Maria replied, “Yes, it is!” “I am really scared,” cried Umair.“Don’t be scared. If we stay at home, wash our hands and eat healthy food, we are safe. We need to stick together and fight with this! We will win,” smiled Maria. Then, Umair decided to follow the rules to stay safe and went to have a good night's sleep.

Eid AddaTahera BasharDepartment of English

On the occasion of Eid , the class teachers of class VI arranged a ‘Zoom Eid Adda’ to greet the students so as to remove their boredom during this lockdown at home. The popular song “Romzaner Oi Rozar Sheshe” aroused students’ interest which was followed by a motivational speech by Salma madam. In addition, having seen the outstanding performance of some of the teachers, students were quite taken aback. Throughout the chitchat, students were being entertained by hilarious videos and songs. The programme ended by reminding our beloved pupils to adopt preventative measures in order to protect themselves against COVID-19 and singing “We shall overcome One day” together. To get rid of anxiety and exasperation and to bring a joyous smile on the face of our students, all the teachers endeavored at their utmost level to interact with them.

We got a sudden vacation from 17 March 2020. I was really happy but when I heard about the coronavirus, I got really scared. We were locked at home. We could not observe our National Children’s Day and Independence Day at our school. After a few days, our virtual classes started. It was so much fun to attend those classes. My teachers helped me to learn and they gave us tests too. When the month of Ramadan started, I was very excited. I helped my Mom cook iftaar. I fasted for 27 days for the first time. I really enjoyed the time when my family prayed together led by my father. We missed going to the village this Eid but I enjoyed Mom’s delicious cooking. I really missed our relatives. This year, Eid had a virtual touch to it because we had group video calls and greeted our relatives, friends and teachers.

Corona is a virus,It is very bad for us.Wash your hands again and again,Corona will die then.We have to stay home, Then corona will not roam.Eat more fruits and vegetables,It keeps your health stable.Corona, corona just go away,Do not come another day.

Some said they did it,Some pointed at you; They marked a bunch,Many blamed a few.The dilemma that many fearedThe curse all-scorned,The streets smoothed clearLeaving blurred hope to see the dear.Burning-test of faithIn unseen guise of Nemesis,Liquefied boundaries of spiritual prejudiceWith lofty prayer touching the sky at zenith. The ever cherished holidayFrom tiring work and life,Heard us longingAnd gave us recess jinxed with worries for future days.Caged birds and animals to feed human fantasyTurned as boomerangO Human sees! What it has come to!Look who is caged and who got locked as animals in the zoo!‘Will live a life to its brim’A resolution that we scheme‘How long will I live?’Is enchanted by suering human screams.Blame games are all around,Deaths knocking every next door,Mourn for the ones to be no more found,And pray for the days with no more funeral horrors.

Though we have crossed the line to the end,The line where there is no turning back,But if you treat us with delicacy and love,We will show you,How we can live, across the line,We can make a world where,Bitter truth sounds fair,Harsh words are rare,And there is nothing bad to compare,Give us a chance to bloom and shine,You know we can make it right,With delicacy and love,We can live, across the line.COVID 19- Poem of Hopes

Life is not forever, so spend it together,With friends and family who unite together to face a calamity. There are many ups and downs,But you have to be the princess wearing your crown. Sometime you will feel like giving upWhile other times you will feel like enjoying it. But there will come a day,When you will return to clay From which you were made.Neither your friend nor your maid can save you From death. And there you will lie alone,With nothing but the clay that was used to mould. Remember my friend, life is not forever.

The morning nature is brightAnd the sky is vast and in great height. As the gentle breeze blowsThe flowers in the garden dance and bend low. The pond water splashesAs the fish in it leaps.Flocks of birds twitter and flyIn the amazing azure blue sky.As the time passes by Nature sleeps away with sweet lullaby.

The Sun ensures its ends.Heat is emitting like sound of sobbing soul,Unbearable to be near the walls!Tired day leaves his last hours without any fancy for fools! It drags out the dreams of evening soul. Here are empty hands spreading towards nothingness. Only A mind moulding...Flickering light fades away in a face with warmth of rain.A mind corroded somewhere we are falling apart in pain...Fending fire is a defending soul,Fallen ash scatters, looks foul...

“Have you heard the news of current deaths?” my dad asked. I nodded my head while chewing my sandwich. My grandfather spoke, “It has caused quite a scene around the world, hasn’t it?” A new deadly virus named Covid-19 has spread around the world and is threaten-ing to kill people. We are all instructed to wear masks, keep ourselves clean, wash our hands and stay inside our homes. I thought it would end pretty soon. Who could guess, this would destroy our lives? After some days, the situation got out of hand. The number of patients was increasing rapidly, and there were uncountable deaths. To me, it seemed like one of those weird, apocalyptic zombie movies. And one day, it really became like that. There was no static, no electricity, no food, and no water supply. We got completely vulnerable. Only the radio static worked.Eventually a notice came. “Those who intend to move to another place must come to the airport and board the plane. Wish you all good luck.” My father suggested that it was the best way to escape from this monstrosity. Once we reached the airport, we discovered a huge crowd. It was so congested that people were walking over dead bodies just to escape. My father held me tightly and said,” Never leave my hand and don’t look down.” I held his hand and started walking…until I suddenly let go…and that was when I realized, I was never getting out alive.

Everyone got dressed in their finest clothes and passion-ately waited for the clock to strike 12. The young maidens grabbed every expensive item they could get from rubies to diamonds. After all, it was the first ever royal ball and no girl wanted to miss the opportunity of dancing with the Duke. Whilst everyone was busy getting decked up, Rebecca sat in the corner of the library with a seemingly calm expression on her face. She held a novel ‘Pride and Prejudice’ by Jane Austen on her one hand and holding a cup of piping hot coee in another hand. Rebecca always

had an enigmatic vibe to herself with two large blue eyes as blue as the ocean which drew attention of other people wherever she went. Though eyes are considered to be the window to a person’s soul, it was almost impossible to figure out what Rebecca had had in her mind. In her mid 20’s, she looked like a teen girl. Despite the type of arcane person she was, she never came o as harsh or rude to her fellow countrymen. As much as she loved her black coee with basil leaves on top, she was equally an ardent reader of Jane Austen and she was often found sneaking out in the library. “Rebecca, why haven’t you got dressed yet? All the other girls are trying to fit into their most luxurious gowns in order to impress the Duke, and you are here reading books wearing your old, worn-out rags! Get out of here this instant!”, her mother shrieked as she entered the library. “Mama, you know that I’m really not interested in parties and balls.” she replied. “But you ought to know that we will hit a fortune if the Duke takes a liking for you and agrees to marry you! Now go and get dressed without uttering a word!”, her mother cried as she slammed the door of the library, leaving the room. After some time, she got dressed in as best as she could and headed o for the royal ball.It was midnight and everyone was eagerly waiting for the Duke to make a grand entry from one of his cham-bers. Suddenly, one of the Duke’s courtiers rushed from the garden and entered the royal court with a face filled with terror and shaking hands. It seemed as if a snake had stung him. A few of his mates tried to calm him down and he was finally able to reach a state to say something. “The Duke has been stabbed by a knife. Someone has murdered him.”, he dropped the bombshell. Everyone stood rooted to the spot as he declared about the Duke’s death. As soon as he stopped, everyone rushed to the garden. The courtiers tried to control the situation but failed. Only one person stood calmly in the empty hall. And that was none other than Rebecca. She had a slight beam of smile on her face. Yes, she was a psychopath and she was the one who had murdered the Duke. “Rebecca, wake up. It’s 7 in the morning.” Rebecca’s mother said as she attempted to wake her up. Rebec-ca slightly opened her eyes. “This was all just a dream. I should calm myself down.” she said to herself. Just then, her mother came with the newspaper in her hand. She grabbed the newspaper from her mother’s hand and started to go through it thoroughly. ‘Duke Stabbed to Death’ was the headline of the cover page. Rebecca dropped the newspaper.

13.8 billion years ago, the entire universe was in a single point. This point is called the singularity point. The point had infinite temperature as well as infinite density. It was small-er than the size of a proton. Space, time and all the laws of physics didn’t exist in this singularity. Then, it expanded. BIG BANG! The edges of the universe expanded faster than the speed of light, growing by a factor of 10^26 in just 10^-33 seconds. That’s like an ant expanding to the size of the Milky Way in just a momentary glimpse, almost instanta-neously. As it grows, it cools down, but it is too hot for atoms to form. The universe is now permeated with a roaring hot soup of quarks and gluons, the two fundamental building blocks of matter. As time passes, temperature drops. At a point, when the temperature becomes 2 trillion Kelvin, the quarks and gluons combine to form the protons and neutrons, and eventually the first atoms. The universe is like a nuclear reactor at this moment. First, the atomic nuclei of hydrogen are formed. Those nuclei then combine to form the nuclei of helium and the lithium. But all these nuclei are ionized. It’s still too hot for them to capture electrons which are flying in the universe, smashing into photons, scattering light and making the universe opaque.Nearly 47 thousand years after the Big Bang, there is a key shift in the universe. Matter is now more prevalent than radiation. This means that clumps of dense matter can start to form. The stars start to form. After a few hundred thousand years, the universe is cool enough for atomic nuclei to capture electrons. This means that electrons are no longer colliding with and thus scattering photons. The universe becomes transparent. Even today, we can detect light from that era. It is referred to as Cosmic Microwave Background. It’s the earliest period when light will ever be able to be seen. Over the next 400 million years, the first stars and galaxies begin to form. But, these can’t be seen yet. This is because all of the hydrogen in the universe is absorbing the light emitted by the stars and galaxies. Stars continue to form and release high-energy photons which start stripping of electrons from hydrogen atoms. The ionized atoms don’t absorb light and the universe from the dark ages. Over the next 7 billion years, stars and galaxies continue to form along with supernovae, pulsars, black holes and other astronomical objects. Other heavier elements like carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and iron are forged in the bellies of stars. These elements go on to form other denser celestial bodies, like the one we live on, the Earth.

I like to enjoy my Eid with my family, relatives and friends. Sadly, I did not get to meet even my grandpar-ents this time because of the lockdown. Nobody visited us and I stayed home. Sometimes I felt like going outside. I really got bored at home. But, it is okay to stay inside. We should stay safe. I have a good time when I pray and recite the Holy Quran every day.

Once upon a time, there was a wonderful world. Everything was going alright. We used to have fun with our friends in the parks and gardens. We could go to schools and meet our friends every day. We could visit our relatives and many beautiful places. Suddenly, all have been changed. We cannot be at our schools; our fathers cannot go to o ces. It is all because of a virus named Corona. Researchers are busy inventing medicine to get rid of it. So, till then we should pray to Allah and be alert, keep ourselves neat and clean and stay safe.

Our Life During Pandemic

Page 34: New Normal Issue - presidencybd.edu.bd · ed in an online science camp on Astronomy, Programming and Robotics organized by Higgsino Science Society. He was also selected for the National

The Pandemic called Covid 19 has taught us a lot of things about this world. It taught us how broken and weak our system is and how poorly the world economy is managed. It taught us who the real heroes are. But most importantly, it taught us of our insignificance on this rock in the middle of space. It taught us how fragile and weak is the human body and how one microscopic organism can cause havoc among the human popula-tion.The economy of several countries is on the brink of collapse. Hundreds of millions of people are losing their livelihoods and are being forced on the streets. Civili-zation as we know it, is crumbling. The only way a person can help his or her nation is by staying indoors, but sadly, even that cannot be accomplished by us. Apparently, that isn’t the only bad news. The shares in stock markets are at an all-time low. Investors fear the spread of the coronavirus will destroy economic growth and that government action may not be enough to stop the decline. In the United States, the number of people filing for unemployment hit a record high, signalling an end to a decade of expansion for one of the world’s largest economies. Governments around the world have urged employees to work from home where possible. The travel industry has been badly damaged, with airlines cutting flights and passengers cancelling business trips and holidays. Governments around the world have introduced travel restrictions to try to restrain the virus. As many countries and world capitals have been put under strict lockdown, major industrial production chains have been brought to a halt.During times of fear and uncertainty, the very best elements of human nature can prevail, as is the case in these Coronavirus-related good news stories we’ve found around the world, demonstrating the power of displaying care and kindness to those less fortunate or able than you in a crisis. The study documents a robust antiviral immune response to SARS-CoV-2 in a group of 20 adults who had recovered from COVID-19. The findings show that the body’s immune system is able to recognize SARS-CoV-2 in many ways, dispelling fears that the virus may elude ongoing eorts to create an eective vaccine. In conclusion, this virus has severely stopped the prog-ress of the economy and the development of society. It’s pushing us backwards and rewinding civilization. Although there are certain times when we receive good news, usually the news is worse than it was yesterday. Hopefully, humanity will not fail and it will triumph as it always did while dealing with plagues and viruses.

Global Aspects of COVID-19Samin AhmedClass X

We are passing such a time that has tried to shape and reshape all our previous assumptions, understanding and praxes about life-world. As a classroom practitioner, I am trying to reconfigure my praxes in the classroom and the intriguing question has emerged, i.e., how do we think of learning beyond the conventional classroom setting in this lockdown situation.Presidency International School has introduced zoom class for the continuation of it's commitment to learning in this Covid-19 situation. We, the practitioners , are trying to make these classes meaningful from the perspective of active learning. For learning, focus has always been paid to active communication between teachers and students in Presidency. How this commitment would be able to achieve through zoom class? We have got training sessions as well as sage advices from school leaders to get acquainted and engaged eectively with this sort of distance learning activities. I am staying at my village. I had to conduct zoom classes. But, you know, in the rural areas of Bangladesh we have to go with frequent power interruption, unstable network and bad weather condition. These have posed a greater challenge to the continuation of my classes. I have got network problem inside my house. In the yard, I used to get stable network under a mango tree. To conduct the class-es, I had to arrange a setting to keep my books, pens etc. with a chair and table under this tree regularly. At the beginning, some students asked, “ Where are you, sir?” “I am staying at my village”, I have replied.Sometimes they have made hasty remark and said, “Your surroundings scenario is very nice, sir.”But, in course of time, things were getting normal to them. I used to talk about the summer monsoon in relation with the sudden disturbance created by Nor'easter during class time. Because of this, I had to unship my setting. Sometimes, they were very delighted to see the scenario and told,” When it will be overwe must visit your village at coming year ending vacation? “I have talked about the importance of seasonal fruits and vegetables in boosting human immune system. Through zoom video, abundance of fruits and vegetables in our yard was a thrill for them. Because of this setting, I was able to make them understand a lot of things which would take a long time to understand in normal classroom setting. Sometimes, I had to go to rooftop of our building to get stable network. This fact has created a sense of deep empathy among some of the students. On Last Eid ul Fitr , one of our students had greeted me with the following words, “Thanks for your eorts and hard work for us in this hard time, sir.”And, this has made my case in this critical time.

Long gone are the days when people dripped in sweat, bathed by the scorching heat of the sun, bustled around shabby bus stops; the foul smell of body odour floated in the air, made everyone feel claustrophobic. Now, there isn’t even a hint of human life out on the streets. Malls and movie theatres aren’t thronged with people anymore. Previously the streets were cramped with cars, trucks, motorcycles with their horns booming in our ears. But, now are deserted as they could ever be. What could have possibly caused such a paramount dierence in our day to day lives? It is the eect of the Covid-19 pandemic. The overwhelming terror of the highly contagious corona-virus is bearing down upon the people of our country, gripping onto their lungs with its ruthless claws. People have been instructed to stay inside their homes for the next couple of weeks as a lockdown has been enacted all over the country. This has caused the scenario of my locality to change significantly. Back when things were normal, we were awakened in the morning by the blaring noise of vehicles and the recurring call of hawkers in an attempt to persuade pedestrians to buy some vegetables or some trinkets and what not. Now we are woken up from sleep by the soft chirping of birds. Mother Nature has reignited herself and is blooming merrily due to the decrease in pollution. A looming silence is persistent in the environment very early in the morning as there are no children rushing o to school burdened with heavy back-packs. Murmurs of people as they scurry o to work can be noticed very rarely. Due to the lockdown, almost all the members of every family are staying at home all the time. People are bustling all over their houses fussing over cooking, clean-ing, spraying surface disinfectant everywhere while kids are wailing at the top of their lungs. On top of that, the TV is almost always turned on and it clamours at its audience about the local and global news on coronavirus. People hold on to their nerves as they keep on switching chan-nels in their desperation to find any news saying that a vaccine or a medicine has been invented to fight the virus. Daily wagers and people living under the poverty line are worst aected by this destructive pandemic. The govern-ment has been on its toes to provide relief to such people by supplying them groceries or other utility items. On the contrary, the rich and the middle-class are hoarding food and medicines as well as utility items from supermarkets.

It is because of such half-witted people that the poor in our country are suering.Gatherings or hangouts and outings to restaurants, community centres and recreational sites have been prohibited. All organizations and businesses have been ordered to be closed down for an indefinite period of time. Most public transports have been discontinued as the majority of people are practising social distancing. However, those who do have to go out to earn bread and butter for their family, can be seen taking precau-tions like wearing masks and washing their hands at frequent intervals. Bengali people have always been the one to pride themselves for the abundance of festivity in the country. However, this year we have been reduced to staying in our homes on special occa-sions whereas we would generally be merrymaking with our loved ones. Nevertheless, the virus couldn’t stop us from spreading happiness and positivity through communicating with relatives via video calls, making a video collage of numerous people singing “Esho Hey Boishakh”. This goes on to show that as long as we are united, we can surely break away from these overwhelmingly troubled times. While being locked indoors, I was feeling twitchy from anxiety as the question of cancelling the O level exams came up. Just when my life was slipping away into the depths of monotony, my school decided to conduct Zoom classes. In the beginning, I was really intrigued as to how these classes would be handled. However, these classes proved to be a great method to stay active during lockdown. They helped me maintain my previous routine, encouraging me to study everyday while keeping boredom at bay. When the cancellation of the O level exams was o cially declared, I was on tenterhooks as to how our grades would be deter-mined. However, I took a breath of relief when my school declared that they would be conducting regular assessments which would act as a part of all the evidence that will be collected by CAIE to determine our results. So, needless to say, I spend the majority of my mornings studying for all the upcoming online tests, trying my best to revel in the feeling of normality at least for a short period of time.

‘Do not take things for granted’- these words strike me quite deeply as I now regret not paying much heed or not appreciating the simple moments of my life, be it hanging out with friends or just going out during weekends with my family. I wouldn’t probably reminisce about these had it not been for a virus that would bring about a seismic change to the fast paced life of xenials, millennials and generation z. On the flipside though, being confined in my house means I can finally take a break from the strenuous schedule I had to follow like the rest of the school-going teenagers which included waking up at 7:00 am in the morning. Thus I’ve shifted my time table two hours later than the usual setting so that I can acquire extra hours of sleep which wasn’t quite possible prior to the pandemic. Even when I go to the rooftop to get some sunlight and to take a look at the city from the 10th floor, I can no longer see the hustle and bustle of my residential area. The multiple grocery shops, schools and even the long queue of cars which filled up the street once have all disap-peared. I’m not sure if it’s me or has the world cooled down by a remarkable degree? Even if it seems the world has slowed down by a little, people all around the globe are still working. Not only o ces but also schools have turned digital as home-works are being assigned to us on google classroom and meetings are taking place on zoom cloud meetings. Nonetheless, our school has given us flexible timing for our classes to be conducted which usually starts from around 10 in the morning and continues till 2 in the afternoon.Even though conducting virtual classes was the most appropriate step to be taken in this unanticipated scenar-io, seeing my friends and teachers on a screen had been quite an awkward experience for me as I had never done virtual meetings before. Despite the world calming down a bit, the sheer number of assignments and tests didn’t fail to amaze me as I’m not very fond of it. But as the situation demanded, I had to do them regardless of my impression. The most stressful moment of virtual academic life was having a power outage during an online test and losing all of the 500 words or so you’ve written in the last 30 minutes. A fear supposedly all of us have had while taking these tests.Frankly, this lockdown has allowed me to spend more

time with my family. Having our meals together in one table and not to mention having evening conversations are something that I’m going to miss once the world reverts back to its original pace. Social media platforms notably Instagram and Facebook are becoming people’s go-to apps in terms of keeping in touch with their close ones, laughing o to a meme or just to be notified about global news as they’re widely available nowadays. I was quite shocked when I checked my social media usage status which has risen to a daily average of 5 hours. Like always I still haven’t picked up the habit of watching the television as YouTube is my preferential source of entertainment.Lockdown has allowed people to get more into their hobbies and talents let it be music, art, culinary skills etc and even post it on social media for talentless beings like me to compliment them. But surely this lockdown has allowed me to watch a movie or two which I was longing to see for years but couldn’t actu-ally make up the time for it and even pick up an inter-est in chess which I wasn’t quite interested in before. Things which didn’t quite intrigue me before have slowly turned interesting since lockdown started, thanks to my boredom. Attending late night video calls with friends are quite fun as we get to share our daily experience no matter how little it is, sing o to a song together or just have a casual conversation. Group chats are more active nowadays than ever. Even my Spotify music playlist has piled up from the sugges-tions my friends have been giving me which I do listen to when I have nothing better to do. As each day comes to an end I pledge myself to live my best the next morning as if it’s my last. Something which helps me to get things done and stops me from leaving it for the future to avoid unwanted regrets. Suppressing my desires to go out of the house or even if I maintain social distancing is the most appropriate choice to make to avoid being infected by the virus which has tormented the life of many. The year 2020 has been a series of unfortunate events and I doubt whether I’ll be able to forget it. What we do today becomes a memory for tomorrow, trying to make memories while we’re still alive and healthy is what we can do in order to cherish these moments in these di cult times. Hopefully the world will be a more habitable place to live in once the virus has been eradicated from the face of earth.

An Unexpected PandemicSafa ZafarClass VI

The pandemic is spreading like wildfire. Every day, hundreds of people are dying for this pandemic. Many families are losing their loved ones, and some are not even getting the chance to attend their funerals. It is getting intense, and the governments have thought that they must do something so that the death rate of people would not rise quickly. After some time, they hit upon an idea, which is lockdown. Practi-cally, it means that everyone has to stay in their own house, and they couldn’t get out if they didn’t have a good reason. That means that all schools and o ces will be closed, almost all airports are shut down, but hospitals are supposed to stay open. It all sounds great, except, some families may be out of food and the only thing to do for that is to go out and buy food, or else those families will have to starve until this pandemic ends. So, the government has taken initiatives to solve this problem. Later, they have instructed people to use PPE, masks, gloves, and other protective elements so that the virus cannot enter the body. Everyone has to maintain a distance at least 3 feet, because if someone has the virus, and if that person coughs or sneezes, the virus can’t reach the other person and it would not spread as much. Finally, the number of aected people has decreased in some countries. But, scientists still have to invent a vaccine for Covid-19. Inventing vaccines is not easy, and might take a while though. On the bright side, scientists have figured out what to do if we want to be safe. Suggestions are as follows- drinking a solution of hot water and lemon juice will keep you safe from the virus, we can wash our hands often, to not rub or touch our eyes, mouth or nose, so that the virus cannot enter our body.Everybody is confined now, even me. It is boring, but there is nothing to do, because the whole lockdown situation is for our own good, and it’s either we go out and die of Covid-19 or we stay home for a couple of months and then go back to our normal life. Moreover, my confinement is probably better than some people, so I just have to understand the situation and stay home. To break monotony, sometimes I prepare some snacks of my own.Sometimes I realize that back in the days when I used to go to school, when my mom used to wake me up to go to school, I wanted school to be closed so that I could relax at home, but now that I am at home for such a long time, and neither seeing my friends, nor playing with them, I feel so bad. I remember all the good times I had with my friends, especially at ti n break or prayer break. Now I am longing for the time gone by with this hope that soon I will get the chance to meet and play with them!

To start with, when I heard about the pandemic at the beginning I was not so serious and expected it to end in a couple of months. But as days passed I started noticing that more and more people around the world are getting infected and fear grew in me. I was excited when school was shut down indefinitely. I had planned to study hard and take online courses to develop skills on my favourite activities as I thought this was the only chance for me to spend all my time learning. Things didn't work out as planned and to be honest I was kind of lazy so I had a hard time putting my mind to studies.I had a boring vacation until online classes started on Zoom. My mum was very concerned about staying safe from the virus and so whenever I sneezed suddenly she used to scream and push me to the washroom to wash my hands properly. I got annoyed with that but was at the same time happy to have a caring mother. She made special tea made of lemon, honey and ginger so that we are protected from getting a sudden cold. I spent my time listening to music, chatting with friends, watching movies and studying.Zoom classes were exciting and I had the best teach-ers who were capable of making us understand the lessons easily. I want to add a joke with that- “Phones were not allowed at school But today, school is inside our phones.” I did not have to wake up early at six in the morning like I used to on regular school days, I could wake up at nine having a good sleep and sit for my class at 10 am in the morning from the comfort of my own room. There were only three classes every day which made it easier to study in spare times. Although I had such opportunities, I must admit, I failed to take their best advantages.Classes were suspended at the end of the Ramadan and I was very excited for Eid. We all had a dierent Eid celebration. I couldn’t buy Eid dresses being in the lockdown but I had a very enjoyable Eid. In the morn-ing, I wore one of my best dresses and talked to my friends and relatives for hours in video calls. I also attended a zoom party arranged by our class coordi-nator and it was super fun. My mum prepared delicious dishes which I also enjoyed.I’m sure we all got valuable life lessons from the pandemic and the lockdown. It’s time to shower kindness on people in need. During any pandemic situation, the door of injustice opens up; such as the price hike of medicine, testing and treatment. So we need to stand by those people who desperately need the compassion of fellow humans.

I became very happy when school was shut down due to COVID-19 lockdown. The first few weeks I became very happy because I didn’t have to wake up early in the morning, especially at 6 O’clock, for school. It was also a great relief from those extra classes. There was no hurry, no worry and no cumbersome school bag to carry with lots of books, copies and a water bottle. In short, I can say that I just started a luxurious life and there were no rules and regulations from my parents’ side too!In those days, my mornings started at 12 in the noon! I spent my unlimited free time playing video games, watching YouTube and enjoying movies. But gradually I got tired of these and I started missing my regular routine life, my school, my peers and everything else that was normal. Our class teacher, Mamun sir informed us that Zoom Classes would start soon. Though I was very excited, I was a bit nervous too because this new way of learning was totally greek to me!All the di culties went away with the help of my teach-ers and I started enjoying the new way of learning! Not only did it help me to attend classes but it also helped me to meet my teachers and classmates. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the school authority for arranging Zoom classes. This was indeed a great idea!

Due to the lockdown, I have been locked inside my house for more than 2 months. During these stay, I felt like I have done nothing but procrastinate which is true but I thought a lot about the world and everything that is happening around us.This year hasn’t been the best for humankind and only God knows what more there is to come. With every passing second, I just keep stumbling upon how messed up this world really is, how distant and unknown we are to the actual world, how blood-thirsty human beings are out there and how all the stereo-types still exist among humans. Just imagine how the world is on the verge of ceasing from existence yet humans are so ignorant of. The fact that I am also a human and I am also doing the same to survive among them sickens me. This lockdown has completely changed the way I see the world and now I feel like I had been blind all these years.

The lockdown has immensely changed the way we all live our lives. Since the lockdown began, time seems to have lost all meaning. In March, the days seemed incredibly long, interspersed by daily news that had radical eects on our lives.Today the whole world is threatened due to the spread of coronavirus. We are all locked indoors and are work-ing from home. We can’t go out, we can’t meet our friends and relatives, we can’t travel, and there is a never ending list of things which we can’t do. But have any of us thought that this di cult time can actually be used in growing and shaping ourselves to a better and stronger person every day? We can’t go out, but we aren’t alone as well. This is the time which we all can use to spend it with our family. Earlier, we wished for holidays so that we can spend quality time with our family members. Now, we have got this chance. During the lockdown, with my family, I have begun organizing ‘themed evenings’ based on countries we have never visited. We learn facts about the country, listen to a political podcast about it, cook the national dish, and watch a documen-tary or film relating to the place. Through Zoom we are connected with our friends and relatives virtually. During lockdown, the passing of time has come to

The COVID-19 pandemic created a mess in the entire world which resulted in the closure of all aspects of public life. It has had a global impact in the past few months and contin-ues to aect the economy. Another sector that has been struck hard is education. Due to the imposed lockdown, students are not able to go school and get proper education. As a result, they are losing their valuable time as they are doing nothing productive. At such a time Presidency Interna-tional School has come up with the idea of online classes. Our school organized the online classes in April through the digital platform Zoom.Online classes are a great way to get our lessons done. Our teachers are playing an important role in conducting our classes properly. Otherwise it would be impossible to com-plete all lessons when the school will reopen and the exams will be looming around the corners.Although there might be pros and cons of online classes, ultimately, it is for the benefit of the students.

Unlocking Creativity during LockdownSafwan Rahman WahiClass III

Covid19 has caused a great dishevel across the earth. Days have changed, everything has been altered. The situation is becoming worse with every passing day! But, in spite of all these changes, students got to explore their own self.During this lockdown, I have tried out things I had never tried before. Moreover, such exploration of my own treasure will be remembered as lockdown memories. I have completed a bundle of artworks which has enhanced my drawing skill. I have come to know more about colour and experimented with them in dierent ways. The most wonderful thing which I have mastered during this lockdown is my cooking skill. I have been practising cooking with my sister which I enjoyed thoroughly and made my boring days enjoyable. I always used to think that being a boy, it would be di cult for me to cook. But to my utter surprise, I have explored myself that a boy can be an excellent cook too. The happiest part was when I made and decorated my mom’s birthday cake. My mother was on cloud nine when she got to know that it was made by me. The smile on my mother’s face made my lockdown days memorable which I would cherish forever. I really want to get back our normal life but these unusu-al days have made me a dierent person. I have come to know myself better and made myself better.

We all know that the coronavirus has spread excessively in Bangladesh in the last few months. The government has imposed a nationwide lockdown on March 26 and has extended it five times so far. Educational institutions have been shut down since 16 March. Stuck at home, we were all getting bored. To escape our boredom and to retain our progress, our school decided to introduce online classes through Zoom cloud App from April 2. I think it was an excellent initiative because we can at least talk and have fun with our friends and teachers besides studying. We are enjoying these lockdown days by our classes and preparing the projects assigned by our teachers. Moreover, this year, on Eid day, we met our friends and teachers on Zoom and had a lot of fun! It was an awesome get-together. After that meeting, I had totally forgotten that I could not go outside or meet anyone because of the lockdown. These online classes are very eective in such a di cult time. I pray to the Almighty Allah that He might wipe out the coronavirus and make everything normal again.

Coronavirus is a deadly virus which has caused a global pandemic called COVID-19. COVID-19 is prov-ing to be a catastrophe for Bangladesh. Many people are suering from this virus. Among them some are dying, some are recovering and some are fighting for their lives. This virus originated in the city of Wuhan in China. And then it spread across the globe. It aected the people of China in December. According to some sources, this virus was transmitted from animals to human bodies most probably from wet markets in China. The symptoms of Covid-19 are fever, coughing, breathing di culty and,in severe cases, fatal pneumo-nia. Thousands of people are dying around the world. So, stay safe, stay home.

resemble a Salvador Dalí dreamscape. The surrealist artist’s famous painting of melting clocks includes a silver pocket watch draped like a shirt hung up to dry over a dead tree branch. Like overripe cheese, his clocks are soft and malleable, and represent what Dalí referred to as “the camembert of time”. In an attempt to challenge our sense of reality, he titled this piece The Persistence of Memory. It reminds us that time and memory are inherently linked, and neither is as rigid as we seem to think. We should stay home and stay safe.

Days come and pass away at all times from our transient life. A huge volume of events and interactions come in contact with our memory at every step but of them a small selection lasts. I would like to shed light on a couple of days in my life which are associated with such unex-pected events. On the 16th of March 2020, the school authority suspended our classes all of a sudden for an uncertain period of time in compliance with the government’s decision. The whole country had been locked indoors to prevent the spread of coronavirus.During the current lockdown, we are all living under a voluntary ‘house arrest’ and everyone is filled with uncer-tainty. In this troublesome situation, it is hard for me to pass days without having much to do. These days are totally dierent since we cannot go out or gather with our friends and family. However, some interesting things did happen in my life.Currently, I am participating in online classes and assess-ments with the aid of digital platforms like Google class-room and Zoom. Side by side, I am taking guitar lessons from Mr. Sumon Chatterjee (a renowned guitar instruc-tor) through Zoom. I am also doing karate classes regu-larly at my personal gym room under the guidance and supervision of Mr. Sona Moni Chakma through Google Meet.Education, recreation and physical fitness are equally important for students. So, I am trying my best to practise these by taking advantage of modern technology during this lockdown. The experience I gathered in the technolo-gy based life in current times will never fade away from my memory.

Never in our life have we ever thought that we would experience this intense anxiety due to a pandemic. Because of the coronavirus virus, there has been change in the global socio-economic structure and Bangladesh is not an exception. The lockdown in Bangladesh started from March 18 and is still ongo-ing. All the public places like markets, community halls, mosques and temples have been locked down because people tend to gather at such places. The number of infected people is increasing day by day. Till the end of April, more than 7000 Bangla-deshis have been tested COVID-19 positive and the number of deaths is increasing everyday. It is not easy to maintain a proper lockdown in our country since it is a densely populated country. Moreover, people in our country are not used to social distanc-ing as our culture is all about togetherness. At present, though the educational institutions are closed, the banks, garments and grocery shops are open to a limited extent. The overpopulated slums, dense localities, refugee camps etc. are at risk of easy contamination of the virus. Low earning people like day labourers, rickshaw pullers, who live from hand to mouth, desperately need to go out to earn money. Though people are helping out through dona-tions and relief, still the situation is not improving much. Since we do not have enough medical facili-ties, it is becoming tougher for the aected ones to get proper treatment. This year, throughout the country, Eid was spent indoors for ensuring safety. In such times, we should practise social distancing for our own sake and avoid going outdoors as much as possible. Since receiving proper treatment is not easy in this pandemic, we need to be cautious and maintain proper hygiene.
