In2008whenthefinancialcrisishitIreland,oneofthefirstthingsthatwascutbytheGovernmentwascapitalexpenditure.Asof2019theyhavenotrestoredthisfunding.ThelackofanyinvestmentinourITsystemswasbroughttotheattentionoftheUniversitiesFinanceCommitteein2015andtheyapprovedaloanfromtheEuropeanInvestmentBankof¤5,000,000towardscriticalITinfrastructureandcyberprotectionmeasures.Theattachedvideodescribestheimpactthatthisinvestmenthashadonourstudents.

AlargenumberofUCCemailaddresseshavebeenidentifiedinexternaldatabreachesoverthepastnumberofyears.Aspasswordreuseiswidespread,cybercriminalswillgenerallytestasetofcredentialsfromoneofthesesitesagainstnumerousdifferentwebsitestogainaccess,includingUCConlineservices.Thisiswhyitisimportanttoensureyouuseseparatepasswordsforpersonalandworkuse.YoushouldalsoneveruseyourUCCemailaddresstosignuptoexternalservices.

Onthe14thJanuary2020MicrosoftwillendsupportforWindows7.ThismeansthatsecurityupdateswillnolongerbeavailableforWindows7fromthatdate,leavingyourdevicevulnerabletoattacks.NewapplicationswillnolongerbedevelopedforWindows7,andsomeexistingapplicationswillstopworkingovertime.UpgradingtoWindows10willgiveWindows7usersseveralkeybenefitsandimprovements.

What are the benefits of Windows 10?

SpeedOfallthebenefitsofWindows10,themostimmediateimprovementisoperatingspeed,resultinginafasteroveralluserexperience.

FunctionalityWindows10featuresenhancedintegrationwithMicrosoftOffice365cloudservices,whichallowsyoutoquicklyandconvenientlybackupyourdatatothecloud-reducingtheriskofdataloss.
