1. Introduction

1.1. About New Links

New Links module is used for displaying one or more links on your DNN website. Using New

Links module you can provide URL links to external as well as internal web pages.

Users can sort links as per their requirement and also pin some of the links. User click tracking

is also done. Links can be configured to open in same page or a new window.

2. Module Installation

2.1. Minimum Technical Requirements

In order to install the module, your DotNetNuke portal must meet the following requirements:

The DotNetNuke portal must be version 7.0 & 8.0 Series.

The DotNetNuke portal must be using Microsoft SQL 2008 or higher.

2.2. Installation Steps

To install the module, login to DotNetNuke as a host. From the Host menu click Extensions

button. Click on Install Extension Wizard button.

In the next window click the Browse button, locate the installation file on your computer hard

disk drive and then click the Next button.

In the next window, click the Next button.

In the next window, click the Next button.

Confirm that you accept the license and click the Next button.

After successful installation of the module, click the Return button.

3. Getting Started

3.1. Placing Module on the Page.

Navigate to the page where you want the module to be seen.

Hover over the Modules Tab which is located at the top of the page and click on Add new

Modules.

Find the New Links Module from the list of modules. And Drag and Drop it on the Page.

3.2. Adding a New Link.

Hover over the pencil icon on the right corner of the module. And Click on Add.

A Pop Up appears as follows:

Title

Title for the Link. This is a Required Field.

URL Type

Select the URL Type. This is a Required Field.

a. External Link: Points to a location or a URL which belongs to some other site.

b. Internal URL: Points to a URL which is present in the site itself.

c. Files on Portal: Points to a file located on the website.

Alternate Text

Alternate Text for the Link.

Image

Select an image for the link. Select a small image which can fit the screen. If no image is

selected a default image will be set for the link.

Link Type

Link Type allows the link to be opened in 3 ways:

a. New Window: Opens the link in a new Window.

b. New Tab: Opens the link in a new Tab.

c. Same Page: Opens the link in the same page.

Description

Fill in some description for the Link.

Fill in all the details and hit the Submit Button.

3.3. Editing a Link.

Note: In order to edit a Link you need to have the edit rights of the page or you need to login

as an Admin / SuperUser.

Navigate to the page where the New Links Module is Located.

Open the page in Edit Mode.

Click on the Blue Pencil Icon to edit the Link.

Make the required changes and click on Update Link.

3.4. Deleting a Link.

Note: In order to delete a Link you need to have the edit rights of the page or you need to

login as an Admin / SuperUser.

Navigate to the page where the New Links Module is Located.

Open the page in Edit Mode.

Click on the Red Cross Icon to delete the Link and the Link gets deleted.

Note: Once a link is deleted it cannot be restored.

3.5. Pining and Unpinning a Link.

Note: Pinning a link causes the link to move up the order. All the pinned Links are grouped

at the top followed by the unpinned Links.

Each User can Customize their own list i.e. each user can have different set of pinned or

unpinned links according to their convenience.

In order to pin a link just click the Pin Button in front of the Link.

In order to Unpin a link just click the Pinned Button in front of the Link.

3.6. Ordering and Resetting Links.

Note: Ordering is done only for the unpinned Links.

Each User can Customize their own list i.e. each user can have different set of ordering

according to their convenience.

In order to sort links a user can click the arrow buttons provided. Up Button causes the link

to move one position upwards. Down Button causes the link to move one position downwards.

In order to Reset the Links to click on the Reset button at the Bottom.

Note: Resetting resets all the ordering and pinning of the links according to the one set by

the SuperUser /Admin.

4. Uninstalling

To Uninstall the module, login to DotNetNuke Website as a host. From the Host menu click

Extensions button. You can see a list of Modules installed into the site.

Find the NewLinks module and click the Delete icon in front of it.

Check the Delete Files checkbox and then Click on the Uninstall Package Button.
