Presidents Message:

The birds are chirping outside the windows of my studio

as I write to you. Like the birds, I am aflutter thinking

about WSA’s 75th Annual National Exhibition!

Seventy-five years of watercolors is a great testimony to

the dedication of WSA members and volunteers. A special thank you

to all who entered the competition and supported WSA with your entries.

Jaceena Shepard always does a terrific job as Exhibition Director and Entry

Chair, taking in all your entries and organizing them for the selection juror. I

can’t wait to see the pieces Marilyn Hughey Phillis selects for this landmark

exhibition.

There is much work yet to be done to have the exhibit ready for the Awards

Ceremony and Opening Reception on May 15, 2016. I hope to see many of you

there at the beautiful new Alabama Center for the Arts. My best wishes go to

each exhibitor during the juried phase of the competition, the award winners

being selected by Janet Rogers.

I am looking forward to attending Ms. Rogers’ workshop May 12-14 at the

Center.

Thank you again for supporting the Society by entering competitions, signing

up for workshops, and volunteering to give something back to the art

community. By participating in those three ways, you provide vital support for

the organization to achieve its purpose of promoting and fostering work in

watercolor.

Join me in extending a warm welcome to all the new members who are listed

in this Newsletter. Please remember to stay connected with WSA and each

other by visiting the website and “liking” us on Facebook. If you are interested

in volunteering, let’s talk.

Congratulations to the following:

"Every painting is an adventure in the search for truth and beauty through the use of color, form and light. I am always looking beyond the surface to the depiction of the human response to nature. It is not just what the eye sees, but what the soul senses, that I find important, and the statement I want to communicate in my work." Marilyn Hughey Phillis, AWS,NWS Selection Juror
