GRADUATION DAY GRADUATION DAY
At 5.55 p.m. one could see the students gathered at the back of the quadrangle, the girls adjusting their sarees, the boys messing with their hair, eager to
start. After they were introduced, the students walked solemnly behind the Principal, knowing very well it would be the last time they would be doing so.
Once all the students had taken their positions, they were asked to be seated. The symbolic lamp was lit by the chief guests, starting the ceremony on an
auspicious note. This was accompanied by the choir's salutations to Lord Ganesha. As their teacher addressed the gathering, it finally hit the students. rdGraduation Day Ceremony was the reason they all had gathered there on that beautiful evening of February 3 , 2017. It was the day when their thirteen year
old journey in this school world would end. It was a day which honoured these students who had transformed from bawling toddlers into fine young individuals.
Five students rose, walking to the front of the stage, looking at the five candles they were expected to light. These candles would illuminate their path ahead,
for they represented the five pillars that made up an individual's character and decided his/her future – Academics, Sports, Values, Co-curricular Activities and
finally, Patriotism. All equally important, one incomplete without the other. All the students present that day vowed to give equal importance to all of them,
and to be better human beings
The atmosphere became more solemn by the minute, until it was time for the Principal's address. A few light-hearted jests along with some serious advice and
the atmosphere was visibly lighter. She took her seat amidst deafening applause. That was followed by the Chief Guest's address. He spoke to the students
about some of the most valuable experiences of his life, giving students advice on how to survive their next big milestone - college.
Each student was then presented with a memento. The outstanding students of the batch were
presented with awards. It was a way for the institution to honour those who had brought honour to
the school. The students cheered loudly for all their peers, remembering every memory shared with
them as their names were called out. Then the valedictorian for the occasion, the School Captain,
addressed the gathering. He thanked all who had helped them, and he promised that they would
make this institution proud in the future. His speech was met with a suitable reply by the
representative of the ninth grade who assured her seniors that her batch would not let them down.
The Chairman then walked up to the podium, his calm confidence through as he inspired the radiating
students to strive for a better tomorrow. The teachers were asked to stand in front of their students.
The students brought the roof down as they cheered for their teachers, recognizing their
contribution through the years. Then, the School Captain led her batchmates through the Pledge.
Their voices rang loud and clear as they vowed to respect everyone, and to fulfil their
responsibilities and duties. The dignitaries then came up to the dais, and lit the candles held in their
hands. The students helped light their peers' candles, indicating how knowledge illuminated the
world around them, during a time of complete darkness. With tears in their eyes remembering the
past, the students sang their farewell songs 'Pal' and 'Seasons in the Sun', which was really apt for
the occasion.
Then the students sang the school song one last time, the sound deafening, their spirit unbeatable,
remembering every moment they had spent within this compound. As the song reached its
crescendo, the students breathed in one last time before belting out the final line. As the evening
came to an end, all the students made a silent promise to themselves, to never let down this
institution. Sanjana VasanthX
