Students who are enrolled for credit in a course for which an EOC assessment is required (EOC/EXTEND2)

Students Repeating an Entire Course for Credit or Taking a Credit Recovery Course

Includes NCVPS EOC Courses

Students must complete Math I and English II by the end of 10th Grade.

Students must complete Biology by the end of 11th Grade.

Eligible Students (Special Situations) (pages 1-2)

• Advanced Placement Courses: Student must take the EOC test the first time the student takes the course. Students enrolled in AP courses who have previously received credit for a non-AP course of the same subject are not eligible to take the EOC test.

• Students Identified as Limited English Proficient (LEP): Students identified as LEP scoring below Level 4.0 Expanding on the state-identified English language proficiency reading placement test and are in their first year in U.S. schools are not eligible to be assessed on the English II end-of-course test. – Request official list (ELLevations database) from lead LEP teacher at your

school.– Testing will verify.

Estimated Administration Time (pages 3-4)

• Biology/English II 150 minutes; Math I 180 min– Biology 75 items– English II 68 items – Math I 60 items

• 2 two-minute breaks • Allow ample opportunity to complete the test. • As long as students are engaged and working

and the maximum time allowed (4 hours*) has not been reached, they must be given time to complete the test.

Before Testing (pages 6-11)

Monitoring Students During Testing pages 12-13 • Walk frequently and quietly throughout the room.

– Position self to have an unobstructed view of and easy access to students.  

• Do not read test questions from open student test books. • Do not indicate answers to students. Some examples include but are not limited to:

– telling students to “look at the question again” or offering similar advice;– making a facial expression, hand gesture, or utterance (e.g., coughing, clearing

throat) to indicate approval or disapproval of the student’s response; and– standing beside the desk, reading a question, looking at the student’s response, and

then pointing to the correct answer or pointing to the question as if to indicate “read the question again because you have bubbled the wrong answer.”

•  Test administrators and proctors (see proctor statement) cannot help students:– by explaining the directions in their own words;– by explaining the meaning of any word in the directions, test questions, or answer

choices;– by rephrasing test questions; – by translating a word or phrase into another language; or– by providing synonyms for unknown words.

Monitoring Students During Testing pages 14-18

• Misalignment– Test administrators may notify students that answers are

misaligned– English II: Test administrator may remind students to enter

responses on answer sheet.– If at the end of the test the test administrator notices that a student

has not transferred answers to answer sheet, the students may transfer responses as long as the maximum time has not passed.

• Student Emergencies: Two adults must be in the room at all times

Accommodations Reminders (NOT in AG)

• Read Aloud to Self is outlined in the Testing Students with Disabilities manual beginning on p. D3.17 there is a note stating that "students provided the Read Aloud to Self accommodation must also be provided the Testing in Separate Room (one-on-one)

 •  Read Aloud by Request is not clearly defined in the Test

Administrator Reads Test Aloud section, with the exception of the Questions for Consideration section. Question 2 (page D3.20) "A student who only is to have words read aloud upon the student's request.“– However the section NOTE states that students who have the Test

Administrator Reads Test Aloud  accommodation must also be provided the Testing in Separate Room (one-on-one OR small group)

Before Testing (page 21)

• Math I Paperclip student test booklets

– Paper Clip before Students Begin Calculator Active: When students complete the calculator inactive part of the Math I assessment, the test administrator must paper clip the students’ test books so they cannot return to previously attempted questions.

– Paper Clip for Lunch Breaks: In rare cases in which students must leave the testing area for lunch, the test administrator must alert students they have five minutes remaining before the lunch break. Students must be told that their test books will be paper clipped so they cannot return to previously attempted questions. Pages that contain reading selections students will need access to must not be paper clipped.

Summary Checklist: Before Test Day (p.22)

• Read and study the North Carolina Testing Code of Ethics.

• Prepare appropriate physical conditions for the testing room.

• Inform students of items that are prohibited in the testing room.

• Review what you can and cannot do to assist students while monitoring • the assessment.

• Know testing policies and procedures (e.g., misalignment, student emergencies and restroom breaks, testing irregularities, paper clipping test books).

• Complete the To Be Completed before Testing column located on the Review of Accommodations Used During Testing form (see Appendix B). One form is to be completed per test per student.
