Greetings Lake Shore Families! Happy October!

This year is off and running and we are already looking at our second month of school! As we move into the autumn season, many events are beginning to show up on the school calendar, please make sure to check out our calendar for special events. Our PTA is busy working to guarantee another fun year for all of our students. We are getting close to the mid-point for the first quarter. If your child is struggling there is still time to improve grades before the quarter ends in November. Working to teach your child perseverance is so important and has to come from home as well as school. Not everything is easy for each student, but the ability to learn from errors and to be willing to struggle is so important. These are skills we use everyday as adults. One of my favorite quotes is: “Failure is not the opposite of success, it’s part of success.” ~ David Wolfe. This is all part of developing a “Growth Mindset.” A growth mindset is the belief that you can get smarter and you can learn. Brain scans actually show that our brain grows more when we make mistakes – because it means it’s entered new territory, so there’s more stuff ‘firing’. People are way too scared of ‘failure’ and mistakes – which keeps them from pushing themselves into new challenges. Science is showing that this fear is actually illogical, because mistakes are amazing for the brain! Help your child learn that struggle is OK. The important thing is that they do not give up, that your child learns to persevere. Additionally, if a child makes a mistake realize they are growing their brains as they learn and enter into new areas for her/him. Together we make a powerful support team for your child. Always know that we are available to discuss concerns and strategies with you. We take our jobs seriously and love what we do. Take time to enjoy the beautiful fall weather. Sincerely,

Parade 2:00



Halloween Parade

We will be having our Halloween parade, weather permitting on the 31st. Costumes

should allow the child to see clearly, be something they can put on themselves, and be appropriate for an elementary school(not too violent or scary in nature). Students should come to school wearing their school clothes and carrying their costume with them. Book characters make great choices! They will be given time to change into them before the parade. It is best if the costume can be placed over their school clothes. There is a very quick changing time in the classrooms. The parade will begin at 2:00 pm in the front loop of the school. Children walk on the sidewalk so parents and families can stand in the bus loop or on the grass. This event is only about 30 minutes total for the children outside. We need to have our students back inside and ready for dismissal at 3:30. If you come to take pictures, please be considerate of the homes on Dorothy Meeks Drive. They do need access in and out of their homes.

School Health Services is looking for qualified Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs). Current LPN licensure in Maryland is required. Positions include health benefits, limited leave and summers off. For more information and an application, please
