SUMMARY i)

This report is a geological survey, as required by The Ministry of Northern Development and Mines for assessment work purposes, following the recommendations set forth in The Mining Act Regulations 1991.

The report includes an introduction to the property, general geology and topography, presentation of field observa tion and results with conclusions and recommendations based on the field survey.

Technical data is provided in the Assessment Data Form found at the back of the report. Field data is compiled on the accompanying plan map found at the back of the report.

INTRODUCTION

The Gwen-12 claim group consists of 6 patented mining claims in Catharine Township, 5 unpatented mining claims in McElroy Township and l unpatented mining claim in Boston Town ship.

The Gwen-12 group are located in Catharine Township in the north half of Cone. VI, Lots 10, 11 and 12, contiguous to the south-west corner of McElroy Township (5 unpatented mining claims) and one claim in the south-east corner of Boston Township.

During the period of January 1984, Mr. Alexander H. Perron established a N46 0 E grid over all 12 claims. On February 12-20, Alexander H. Perron and Mary Mahood-Greer ran two geophy sical surveys. In Ms. Mahood-Greer's conclusions, she states, Ka detailed geological survey should be conducted as well as accompanying surface power stripping)).

For the purpose of this report, a geological survey was carried out from October l, 1997 to October 29, 1997 by Miss Wendy K. Heller. All drafting was completed by Wendy K. Weller. The report was completed by Wendy K. Weller.

PROPERTY DESCRIPTION

The Gwen-12 Group consists of a contiguous block of twelve (12) claims. Six of these claims are leased (Catharine Township) and the remaining six are unpatented mining claims in Boston and McElroy Townships.

Ownership of the aforementioned unpatented mining claims has been attested to by Mr. Alexander H. Perron of 103 Government Road East, Kirkland Lake, Ontario, P2N IA9, and were not indepen dently ascertained by the writer. (See Figure la).

ACCESS TO PROPERTY

This property is easily accessible via a secondary road that extends eastward approximately three miles from the village of Boston Creek. Boston Creek is located approximately 15 miles south/east of Kirkland Lake and may be reached by Highway 112 and 564. (See Figure Ib).

PREVIOUS WORK

Old trenches are seen throughout the property, but no records can be found. In 1928 some diamond drilling was per formed near the south boundary of claim L-565521.

In 1981, on the claims in Catharine Township a qr ^ established and from December 3-5, 1981, two geophysical survey:: (magnetometer and electromagnetic) were completed.

In 1984, on the entire Gwen-12 Group plus 4 patented claims (owned by Shenandoah Resources Limited) a new N46 0 E grid was eatablished by Alexander H. Perron. From February 12-20, 1984, two geophysical (electromagnetic, magnetometer) surveys were completed by Ms, Mahood-Greer. All the above can be seen at the Regional Geologist's Assessment Files.

A detail Electromagnetic and magnetometer survey was done October 25, 1995 by Miss Wendy K. Weller.

SURVEY PROCEDURE

Using the detail (200 foot) grid established by Aljon Exploration in 1995, all outcrops and topographical boundaries were measured into the above grid by using a hip chain. The use of air photos, and the ODM Geology of Catharine Township.

GENERAL GEOLOGY

Abraham (1951) described the geology of McElroy and part of Boston Townships. In general: wThe bedrock formations of the area consist largely of early Precambrian volcanics, se diments and intrusivesw. Early Precambrian rocks are cut by diabase dykes. Pleistocene deposits cover the area except for local exposures of bedrock.

There are two major rock groups in and around the area of the survey, and they trend in a northwest to southeast di rection.

BASIC -AND INTERMEDIATE GROUP

The rocks in the group are composed of andesite and basalt volcanic flows. They are mainly massive, fine to coarse- grained, dark green rocks. Those coarse-grained lava flows which have dioritic, diabasic or gabbroic textures are difficult to dis tinguish from their intrusive equivalents. Pillow flows are also present.

FRAGMENTAL VOLCANIC GROUP

The belt of rocks underlies most of the mapped area and extends diagonally across the southwestern part of the area. It lies between two bands of intermediate lavas.

The fragmental rocks make up for the largest part of this division. The matrix i s"fine-grained, but phenocrysts of plagio- close and needles of hornesblend are recognizable. These rocks range in composition from andesite or dacite to a crystal tuff.

1997 GEOLOGICAL SURVEY

a) Topography:

The general terrain of this property varies from gentle sloping hills to low swampy areas. A large beaver pond, creek system runs parallel to the baseline. Through out the low areas of the property, small drainage creeks run from the higher outcrop area feeding the above creek, pond system.

East and west of the pond system, a series of small gentle sloping hills. The hills are covered wnn pine, birch, poplar and are spotted with small outcrop showings. Between these hills are low swampy areas of pine, alder, poplar and spruce. The difference in

Intermediate volcanics predominantly fragmental: fragmental volcanics, generally porphyritic; por phyritic lava or crystal tuff; dacite; andesite, occasionally fragmental..

Acid( volcanics, tuff, and iron formation: Rhyolite; acid and cherty tuff; acid fragmental volcanics; tuffs and sediments interbedded with volcnnic rocks; tuff and iron formation; iron formation.

elevation averages 75-100 feet. The location of the streams are controlled by the distribution of the gla cial debris. The glacial debris in this claim group is glacial outwash of sand, gravel, and clay plains.

b) Geological Observations:

In this survey, two major rock types were observed: ,

i) Basic and Intermediate Group ii) Fragmental Volcanic Group

i) Basic and Intermediate Group

In claim L-565521 and the west half of claim L-565520, the basic and intermediate group was observed. They range from andesite, basalt pillow lava to dioritic, diabasic and grabboic lava.

Pillow Lava:

The weathered colour of this group ranged from rust brown to dark green. The grain size was aphanitic (grain size not seen by hand Tense) to fine grain, - l m.m. The salvages contained small smounts of quartz and quartz stringers. The strike of the top of the flow was 48 0 North/East. The pillows range in size from 6 inches to 5 feet long, and 2 feet wide. The salvages are very narrow with a width of half an inch.

The Dioritic, Diabasic and Grabboic J-j^va

The weathering of the rock was rust brown to dark green/black. The grain size was coarse, 5 m.m. There were white and black fragments embedded in the rock. The rock was magnetic. There were joints noticed and the rock was moderately fractured. The strike of the outcrops were 210 0 to 196 0 . There was spider like quartz stringers throughout the rock.

In the south west corner of claim L-565521 one quartz vein was observed. The quartz vein was white in colour and a small amount of pyrite was noted. The width, of the veins were 8 to 9 inches. The strike of the vein was 196 0 , the same strike as the country rock.

i i) Fragmental,Volcanic Rock

Over 3/4 of the surveyed.claim group is frag-

mental volcanics.

Crystal Tuff

Consisting of broken crystal fragments of quartz, feldspar and mafic minerals. Accessory rock fragments are a minor component. The colour of the country rock is dark green/black. The rock fragments range in colour from white to black to clear. The grain size is fine to medium. The strike of this flow is 36 0 .

Dacite or Andesite

The colour is dark green/black with small white and black fragments embedded in the host rock. This rock is heavily fractured (in a patchwork form #). The rock is also magnetic. The strike of the flow is 160 0 S/E.

GEOLOGY

In the area of the survey (south/western part of McElroy) individual flows grade from a coarse dioretic, or diabasic base to a fine grained, pillowed top. The strike and tops of flows can be obtained but the dips of flows are rarely obtained unless interbedded tuffs were present,

REGIONAL STRUCTURE

In the area of the survey, the Keewatin volcanics represent the north limb of a major anticline, that strikes south 50 0 to 70 0 into the northwestern part of Skead Township where it swings south. Twelve miles south of McElroy and Boston Townships, Moorehouse describes ((a group of lavas, which he considers to represent the south limb of a major antiline. The lavas described by lavas overlain by a succession of volcanic rocks which resembles the intermediate fragmental volcanic horizon in the McElroy and Boston area)).

CONCLUSION

This survey is being combined with the detail electromagnetic and magnetometer survey for the purpose of diamond drill targets and trenching and stripping programs for next spring.
