Alan Bullard

O Come, Emmanuelfor SATB and organ or piano or small orchestra or chamber group

O Come, Emmanuel is a strikingly original work for Advent and Christmas, suitable for both church and concert choirs. It is based on the seven Great ‘O’ Antiphons, and fragments of the well-known plainsong hymn permeate the work. To these, Bullard has added settings of other Advent texts and hymns; a number of the movements make highly effective separate pieces and anthems.

Instrumental material is available on hire/rental — 1 each of fl, ob, cl in A, bsn/bass cl, tpt in B flat, hn in F, and either string quintet (2 vlns, vla, vc, db), or string orchestra, or keyboard (pno/org). The keyboard part is an alternative to the string parts, and not the same as the accompaniment printed in the vocal score.

Hodie Christus natus estfor SATB unaccompanied

A ‘vivace’ tempo marking and offset rhythms combine with Pott’s uniquely striking harmonies and undulating polyphony to form a joyous piece that will contrast well with more traditional carols.

Charles Villiers Stanford, arr. Philip Moore

Watts’ Cradle Songfor SS and organ

This gentle carol sets the text of Isaac Watts’ popular ‘Cradle Song’ to the music of Charles Villiers Stanford’s lullaby, ‘Golden slumbers, kiss your eyes’. In Moore’s arrangement, the graceful, lilting melody is enhanced by sensitive choral harmonies that explore a variety of textures.

A version for SATB is also available.
