HRS 10.1 Pre Stack Inversion – Vs/Vp Ratio Test

4

Based on the Vp/Vs ratio error, the optimum Gamma value is 0.45

HRS 10.1 Pre Stack Inversion - Iteration Test

5

A stable inversion result is achieved after 25 iterations in this case, allowing the inversion to be run in half the time

of the default number of iterations (50).

Presentation Notes
HRS10.0.1 had this option as well, now it is improved and works for MC projects as well

This tool allows the study of azimuthal velocity effects for a user-selected event. The graph to the far right shows the azimuthal traveltime for the highlighted event at 2244 ms. The calculated residual travel times are displayed in color along with the seismic gather. The azRNMO display shows the residual travel time versus azimuth along with the modeled azimuthal RNMO. The data is color coded by offset. The red and blue curves show the predicted RNMO at the mid offset (5,000 ft.) and the maximum offset (10,000 ft.).

ProAZ Resolution of the Symmetry Axis Ambiguity

10

Figure 1 The traditional solution (a) anisotropic gradient and (b) symmetry axis azimuth calculated using the

positive Bani. Note how the azimuth oscillates.

Figure 2 The (a) anisotropic gradient and (b) symmetry axis azimuth calculated using the stress constraint.

Note how the azimuth now is much more stable.

The estimate of the symmetry axis from AVOAz inversion is non-unique, with two solutions 90 degrees apart. In HRS10.1 geologic and rock physics constraints are used to help resolve this issue.

ProAZ Far-Offset Rüger (7 Parameter) Inversion

11

In HRS10.1 it is possible to solve the seven-parameter linearized AVOAz inversion. In the HTI case this is equivalent to the far-offset Rüger equation. In the case of HTI media the seven parameters include the density, vertical P-wave and S-wave velocity reflectivity and the contrast in delta, epsilon and gamma. It is also possible to parameterize the problem in terms of fracture weakness parameters as shown in the figure to the right. The figure to the right shows the (a) normal, vertical and horizontal fracture weakness contrast parameters estimated from the seven-parameter AVOAz inversion based on synthetic data. All show the correct azimuth (b) of 30 degrees. The fracture weakness contrasts are all positive at the top of the fractured zone (1000 ms) and negative at the base (1100 ms) and have the correct polarity.

ProAZ Calculate and Display Azimuthal Uncertainty

12

In HRS 10.1 the Azimuthal AVO Volume Process optionally outputs uncertainty. The standard deviation of each attribute is estimated following Downton and Gray (2006). Uncertainty is displayed as ‘whiskers’ in the HRS Advanced 3D visualization module.

13

Advanced 3D Visualization

HRS 10.1 provides added features to the Advanced 3D Viewer. This 3D visualization tool allows display of the stratigraphic grid used by GeoSI and it supports displays of fractures and platelets from Azimuthal attributes. The viewer also handles large seismic volumes. RGBA blending adds an Alpha value to the display, which is transparency or opacity.

Processing

14

Within the ‘Output’ tab of many processes, a test can be run to determine the most efficient number of threads to use. The user can now specify how

many threads to dedicate to a process before starting it.

Example test speed of an Angle Gather process using 1,2,3 and 4 threads.

AVO Quick Modelling (1D)

15

AVO Quick Modeling optionally accommodates

import of curve values from Petro Elastic Models

produced in other HRS modules.

This feature is activated from an icon in the Wells display tab or from the Processes window. A simple table of curve values can be imported or entered for between 1 and 6 layers. The curve thicknesses and values for P-wave, S-wave or Density can then be dragged and dropped, interactively updating a

synthetic offset or angle seismic gather display, in real time.

AVO Quick Modelling (1D)

16

Within the same Quick module, AVO intercept and gradient analysis can be analysed

An example of a 3 layer input to AVO Quick Modeling. The user specifies the start depth of each layer with P-wave, S-wave and Density values for each.
