Added 'Print as image' and Dither printing preferences

This preference option will overcome problems experienced with some printer's printer driver software whereby (e.g.) transparent annotations can not be printed transparent. Within the ‘Print as image’ option is a second preference option of ‘Dither’. It should be noted that whilst some printers handle dithering, some don’t. So if you find that the output when printing doesn’t look right, they can try this option to see if an improvement can be achieved. It’s one of those ‘trial and error’ settings.

Added 'auto-size' option to Exemption Code window context menu

If the text in a created exemption code window is too big (e.g. only part of the text is able to been seen in the window) or too small (e.g. window un-necessarily large for size of text) to display correctly within the window, 'Auto-size exemption Codes can be selected. Auto-size can be applied to the selected or last created redaction's exemption code.

Rectangle Redaction Tool

Annotations A new tool called ‘Rectangle Redaction’ has been added. This can be selected either from the Menu bar (Tool | Rectangle Redaction) or from the Tool bar’s Tool drop down list as seen below:

The Rectangle Redaction tool can be used to select and block out areas of an image file. The color of the block will be determined by the colors within the image…a black and white image will give you the choice of black or white, whereas a color image will give you the choice of a full range of colors. Unlike other annotations, once the file has been saved, the redaction is permanent (can not be removed). Note: The original document is never changed (redactions can NOT be saved back to the original document); you should use the “Save As”, “Save Copy As” or “Save Selection” options in the File menu.

TRIM integration Trapeze Desktop now has the ability to integrate directly with TRIM Context (a Records Management System from TOWER Software) without using ODMA (the exception is TRIM TopDrawer which continues to use ODMA connectivity).

Page 45: New Features and History

“Show Empty Bookmarks” option has been added to the (Menu) Edit\Preferences\Document option (see below). This determines whether or not the bookmark pane will be displayed when Trapeze Desktop open a document for which there are no bookmarks.

Page\Open Copy menu command has been added (see below). This enables a read-only copy of a document to be opened for viewing, if another user already has the document open for writing.

An “Ignore Orientation” image preference has been added in Edit\Preferences\Image. When this is enabled, Trapeze will ignore the orientation tags contained in scanned images thus displaying the image as physically scanned. For example, if an image has been deliberately scanned upside-down, and this is the orientation that is to be displayed, then enabling this option will force Trapeze to ignore the orientation tags (if any set during scanning) and display the image upside-down. New command line options ‘/single’ (Runs in a single application) and ‘/file’ (Specifies the document to create in the specified location).

Trapeze Desktop 5.0

Changes Undo annotation changes has been added. Support for HTTP 1.0 tunnel connections has been added. Added an annotation indicator ( ) to the thumbnails of images which have been annotated (local documents only i.e. non-Webstreamer). DRS OCR has replaced TypeReader OCR. This is an in-built OCR engine and OCR text support has been added. Tunnel support has been improved and tunnel logging has been added. Support has been added for the Stop button in Internet Explorer (when Trapeze Desktop is running within a browser). The Open and Save dialog size and position is now consistent across all versions of Windows. The size is remembered by default and position remembering can be enabled in the Edit\Preferences\Files menu. Various bugs in previous versions have been fixed.

Features OCR (See Appendix 1) In addition to the OCRing of selected text and OCRing new bookmarks, Trapeze Desktop 5.0 now has the ability to OCR full pages or full documents locally. This can be carried out using thumbnails or images. Searches can be carried out on all OCR’d text. OCR’d text can be replaced. Indicators have been added to thumbnails of an OCR’d page of a local document i.e. non-Webstreamer documents. The user can choose to search for OCR’d text on the current page or throughout the whole document. Large Images When an OTTP reference containing one or more large images is opened bookmarks and thumbnails are displayed. When a large-image page is selected for display a low-resolution preview of the image is sent from the Webstreamer server and displayed in Trapeze Desktop. Webstreamer then sends “tiles”, each a full resolution version of a region of the image. Trapeze Desktop requests the visible tiles first so that as the user displays a particular region of interest in the magnifier or the main window, the tiles for that region are sent first. As the user zooms and pans further regions are sent, once the region of interest is complete non-visible tiles are sent as a background activity (using a left-to-right, top-to-bottom order, as in western text). The effect is that the user initially sees a low-resolution image that progressively becomes clearer, tile-by-tile. The low resolution is most noticeable when a small region is viewed at a high zoom factor but this is also the case where the benefits will be greatest because the smallest fraction of the original image is required. Once the entire full-resolution image has been sent, the image will be indistinguishable from one downloaded using existing Webstreamer functionality. Right clicking on an image and choosing properties, displays whether or not an image is a large image:

Page 59: New Features and History

Trapeze Desktop History Page 59 © Onstream Systems Ltd 1997 -2009

Saving a copy of an image locally When used in Trapeze Online, Trapeze Desktop 5.0 has the capability of saving a copy of an OTTP document locally. This functionality is dependant on the Trapeze Desktop license key and the Webstreamer configuration. When the Allow Local Save function has been set to ON in Trapeze Webstreamer, the user can right click on any page of a document and choose to Save Page or to Save Selection if a selection has been made. When choosing the directory in which to save the image, the user can also choose to save the bookmarks, thumbnails, annotations, and any OCR’d text. When saving a copy of an image when the original image is local also, (not using Trapeze Online) the user has the option of deleting the original image after saving.

Page 60: New Features and History

Trapeze Desktop History Page 60 © Onstream Systems Ltd 1997 -2009

Pasteboard With the Pasteboard, it is now possible to copy single items from the Pasteboard to the clipboard. This allows the user to copy tiff images from the Pasteboard and use them in other Windows applications. Commands\Menus The OCR commands have been moved to the Edit menu The Set Scale Command has been moved to the Page menu OTTP Save As\Save Selection has been added to the File menu and the right click

context menus for Images and Thumbnails The Save command in the right click context image menu has been renamed Save

Selection. An “Open All Documents in a Single Application” preference has been added to

Edit\Preferences. This is forces multiple documents to all open in a single copy of Trapeze.

Alt+Backspace (Undo) and Shift+Delete (Cut) shortcut keys have been added. In the Edit\Preferences\Files menu, it is now possible to set an initial directory for the

Open and Save dialogs. This means that the specified directory is the directory opened in the Open dialog and the same for the Save command.

Scanning Gray and colour images now scan correctly from ISIS scanners. Scanning now works with more broken TWAIN drivers than before Scanning from some bad TWAIN drivers is detected and corrected with the help of the

new “TWAIN Bit Order” image preview window.
