This person works in real estate, and they felt led by God to make us an offer. They own a large house in the Erin Mills Parkway and Burnhamthorpe area of Mississauga, and rather than simply sell the house as per usual, they felt God leading them to use it for ministry. Their vision was to see the house used for hosting existing church ministry, but also to start reaching out into the neighborhood. The U of T Erindale campus is also just a short walk away, and they thought it would be cool to start reaching out to students there as well. This generous visionary wanted to see us find a family that could move into the house and start using it for these purposes. And what is most amazing – apart from a small amount of rent the tenant would need to pay along with utility costs, the mortgage payments would be FREE to Renew Church. They would be paid for us as long as we were using the house for the intended purposes. We were blown away and we started to pray about who could move into the house and dream about what all we could be using the house for. This house can be used for youth and young adult events, for running all kinds of ministry activities, and even for housing interns and hosting ministry teams. We can even use it to generate income. As we prayed, Andrew & Ashton Wood started to get really excited about the idea of moving into the house. They are now committed to moving into the house, located at 2174 Burbank Drive, and to start using the house for all of the intended purposes. The only thing that we Renew has to do is furnish this large house! And that is going to require some funds. So today, with the backing of the staff and elders at Renew, I am introducing you to the Renew Ministry House Giving Campaign. In the past, I have run many campaigns for the church and this is by far the easiest ask I’ve ever made of our people. We have been given an amazing gift. The mortgage on this house is around $50,000 per year. All Renew needs to do is furnish the house; there is no risk for our church. Imagine – if someone gave you a new car, you’d happily find a way to pay for the insurance! But this deal is even better, because if we can raise the needed funds for the furnishings, we won’t have to pay anything else. Please take the time to read through this packet. Watch the suggested videos online. Make note of the timelines that we have structured and the events planned for this campaign and start to pray today about what God would have you and your family contribute. Sincerely, Pastor Bartley Sawatsky Lead Pastor, Renew Church

Dear Renew Church Team Member,

About two months ago, the staff were approached by a generous member of Renew Church.

SIZE3500+ Square Feet

UPSTAIRS• 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 common space

• Andrew & Ashton’s living quarters, multiple rooms for housing guests, interns, etc.

MAIN FLOOR • 1 large kitchen, 2 living rooms, 1 dining room,

1 office, 2-car garage, backyard w/ pool & hot-tub

• used by Andrew & Ashton but also used for hosting all types of ministry activities

• the kitchen is huge and is equipped with an industrial size oven (complete with heating racks), dual dishwashers, and deep sinks – amazing for hosting

BASEMENT• 1 kitchen, 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, 2 open-concept

living rooms, 1 cold storage, outside access

• to be rented out (renters already identified)

BACKYARD• salt water swimming pool

• hot tub

• patio for hosting outdoor events

We have calculated the cost of furnishing the house and of making some small renovations to the basement (needed for renting out) and the total cost is $25,000.

It is a very large house that will require adequate furnishings to make it operational for the ministry we envision. The plan is to buy most of the furnishings from IKEA so as to create a neat, modern look at a low cost.

This cost includes:

• couches and chairs

• dining furniture

• a few small kitchen appliances

• kitchen dishes and utensils

• beds (including numerous bunkbeds)

• bedding, linens

• towels

• decorations

• patio furniture

• barbecue

• minor renovations to basement (to prepare it to be rented out)

The House The Need

To hear Andrew & Ashton’s vision for the use of the house, please watch the campaign introductory video at: www.renewchurch.ca/ministry-house

Our need is $25,000.

Between our 3 Renew campuses, we have around 110 “giving units” (individuals or families who contribute; usually signed up to receive giving envelopes).

This means that every unit would need to give around $230 for us to meet our need.

While this is not insignificant, it is very achievable at a minimal financial sacrifice. It is something many of us could afford within our monthly budget.

Think of the ways you could spend this much in any given month...

• one traffic ticket• one very minor car repair• one trip to the hair salon• a few rounds of golf

Some of us may not be able to give $230, but some of us could go beyond it. Some of us could give many times that.

We are not looking for equal gifts, but we are looking for equal sacrifice.

We are giving until the end of May to complete donations This gives a bit more time to those who may be in a pinch this month. It may also enable people to make use of their income tax return.

NOTE: We are asking that all donations be above and beyond your regular giving. Our regular budgeted needs must be met, so we appreciate your attention to this.

In order to make this goal as attainable as possible, we are giving 2 months to this campaign. Please make note of the following dates and the process for making your contribution. And please plan to attend one of the open houses!

Q: Is this project diverting attention from our plans to start a campus in Cambridge?

A: Not at all! We are moving ahead with those plans, and Cambridge is still the “next thing” we are working toward in regard to our movement.

Q: Will Andrew & Ashton still be involved at Mayfield West?

A: Absolutely. While they will be moving out of the community, they will continue to serve there on Sundays and be involved in all of the same activity in the neighborhood. No plans have changed in their commitment to Pastor Wade and the Mayfield West campus.

Q: Are there really no costs (beyond furnishings) to Renew Church for the Ministry House?

A: None! Andrew & Ashton will pay a modest amount for rent and the utilities. Funds raised by the house (through basement rent, housing guests, etc.) will offset these costs (and other minor costs like insurance) and potentially enable us to make some income. And a tenant has already been found for the basement.

Q: Is it okay for a church to make income off of a house like this?

A: Absolutely. It is within the legal rights of a not-for-profit to make a certain amount of income when it is in keeping with their stated purposes.

Q: Poor Ashton! Will she be compensated for hosting activities in this house?

A: Yes! Whenever teams come to visit, a stipend is built into their costs that not only pays for the house, but gives something to Ashton for her work. We will also make sure that certain boundaries are respected in regard to ongoing ministry in order to make the home a livable and pleasant experience for Andrew & Ashton. They are in charge!

Pledge cards are simply a means by which we will estimate how much we can expect to receive in donations so that we can budget accordingly. Your actual contribution can be made any time up to Sunday, May 28. Donations can be made in all of the usual ways including: in the Sunday offering, e-transfer and through our website, www.renewchurch.ca/give. Please make cheques payable to Renew Church. Remember to indicate on your cheque, e-transfer or online donation form that your donation is for the Renew Ministry House. All donations will be given a tax receipt along with your regular giving.
