A SPECIAL WELCOME TO OUR GUESTS THIS MORNING!
Whether you are from across town or out-of-state, your presence is a blessing to us.
When the Friendship Pad is passed down the row, please fill it out so we may connect
with you. Thank you for joining us today!
Scripture - 2 Corinthians 5:14-21 14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and
therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for
themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again. 16 So from now on we
regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this
way, we do so no longer. 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:
The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself
through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling
the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has
committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ’s
ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on
Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who
had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become
the righteousness of God.
Gospel - John 3:1-17 1 Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who
was a member of the Jewish ruling council. 2 He came to
Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that you are a
teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if
God were not with him.” 3 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the
kingdom of God unless they are born again.” 4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they
cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” 5 Jesus answered,
“Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of
water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. 7 You
should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows
wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or
where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” 9 “How can this be?” Nicodemus asked. 10 “You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and
do you not understand these things? 11 Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know,
and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. 12 I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you
believe if I speak of heavenly things? 13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the
one who came from heaven - the Son of Man. 14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in
the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 that everyone who believes may
have eternal life in him.” 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes
in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the
world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Sermon Text - Jeremiah 31:1-6, 31-34 1 “At that time,” declares the LORD, “I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and
they will be my people.” 2 This is what the LORD says: “The people who survive the sword
will find favor in the wilderness; I will come to give rest to Israel.” 3 The LORD appeared
to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you
with unfailing kindness. 4 I will build you up again, and you, Virgin Israel, will be rebuilt.
Again you will take up your timbrels and go out to dance with the joyful. 5 Again you
will plant vineyards on the hills of Samaria; the farmers will plant them and enjoy their
fruit. 6 There will be a day when watchmen cry out on the hills of Ephraim, ‘Come, let us
go up to Zion, to the LORD our God.’” 31 “The days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will make a new covenant with
the people of Israel and with the people of Judah. 32 It will not be like the covenant I
made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt,
because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them,” declares the
LORD. 33 “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,”
declares the LORD. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be
their God, and they will be my people. 34 No longer will they teach their neighbor, or
say to one another, ‘Know the LORD,’ because they will all know me, from the least of
them to the greatest,” declares the LORD. “For I will forgive their wickedness and will
remember their sins no more.”
Pastor’s Ponderings . . .
1. What does it mean to be “born again” spiritually in Jesus Christ?
2. Think of a time when you were in trouble, and then someone rescued you.
What did it feel like?
3. What are the key elements of our new covenant through Christ?
4. What are the attitudes and behavior of a life without Jesus?
5. What are the attitudes and behaviors of a life with Jesus?
6. What would it look like for a person to violate this new covenant?
7. Who is the guarantor of this new covenant? How do you know?

Operation Serve International
Mexico City Mission Trip Team
On Monday and Tuesday, July 22 & 23, the Team will be at
Apostolic Community Restoration in Ixtapaluca. The
church’s pastor is Rutilo Uriostegui and his wife, Estefania.
“God brought us to Ixtapaluca to establish a congregation that
shares the Gospel! Recently, the municipality registered
approximately 25% grown in its population. In these years,
Boulevard Ixtapaluca was full of bars and centers of prostitution
and alcoholism! These are the challenges we face in addition to
drug addiction, broken families and idol worship! The harvest is great and the
workers are few. Our mission is to conquer Ixtapaluca and its surroundings. Our
vision is to flood the people of Ixtapaulca with the Word of God, to establish His
kingdom and share the Good News of the Gospel! Your team will be a part of
conquering Ixtapaluca for Christ!”
On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, July 24-26, the Team
will be at Christian Family Center Unifying Families in
Chimalhuacan. The Center’s pastor is Esteban Alonso and his
wife, Soledad.
“This church is a new church plant and we are in the midst of
construction. We are already reaching many children and their
families in this region through feeding programs, children’s
programs, and preaching the Word of God in the region. The
challenges in the area are broken families, alcoholism, drug addition and juvenile
delinquency. We have a heart to impact our community for Christ. Thank you for
serving with us in this community. We are believing for a GREAT harvest of Souls!”
Fourteen members of Faith Lutheran and 3 from area churches make up the team for
the 2019 Mexico City International Mission Trip. The team will be in Mexico City
Saturday, July 20, through Saturday, July 27.
Members are: Eric, Cindy, Connor and Reid Tigges, Christin and Lauren Lee,
Pastor Lee and Denise Laaveg, Kirby Fueston, Kris and Sophie Behrens, Autumn
Erdman, Brittany Spieker, Joan Loring, Jane Wiest and Dr. Terry and Stevie Shively.
