Part II. Detailed Course Information

Justification for the proposal Maximum 80 words

Advanced Electrical Circuit Analysis covers AC analysis (Transient and steady state analysis, sinusoidal steady state analysis, phasors). Sinusoidal steady state analysis (Impedance, complex power, application of circuit theorems in steady state analysis), 3 Phase circuits, Coupling elements, Two ports, Laplace transform, Network functions (Transfer functions), Introduction to filters, Bode plots. Therefore, the purpose of this course is to introduce the various advanced electrical circuit concepts for further study in electronics and communications engineering.

Course Description Provide a brief overview of what is covered during the semester. This information will appear in the printed catalogs and on the web online catalog. Maximum 60 words.

This course mainly introduces the student to concepts of analysing AC circuits (Steady state and sinusoidal steady state analysis methods, Laplace transform, filters, bode plots, convolution integral). Some circuit representation techniques (Two ports) and new circuit elements (Transformers and coupled inductor, 3 Phase circuits) are also covered.

Course Objectives Explain the aims of the course. Maximum 100 words.

1) Knowledge in the principles of transients in DC circuits, AC circuit theory, filters and magnetically coupled circuit elements 2) Understand methods for calculating various advanced electric properties 3) With an established understanding of advanced electrical principles, this course prepares the students to apply technology in

conjunction with established theory to analyze problems

1) Apply the knowledge and determine steady state responses for RC, RL and RLC circuits2) Develop practical skills in AC electrical measurement, testing and problem solving related to working with AC series & parallel circuits.3) Apply AC steady state principles and analyses AC circuits, complex impedances and AC power4) Apply circuit analysis principles and determine the transfer function of simple circuits5) Select a suitable filter components for required response
