WHAT A SUMMER!
Wow — what a summer! Right from the opening of the Brant Street Pier on Sound of Music Weekend through to the hum of the motors at the Marques D’Elegance Streetfest, there has always been something going on downtown.
We have filled this newsletter with
some of the pictures from this action-
packed summer. Looking forward, we
have a roster of fun events coming up
this Fall – family-focused, culturally-
focused, food-focused — there is
something for everyone. Here are
some highlights!
Mark Saturday, October 26th in your
calendars for Treats in Our Streets — the
annual downtown trick-or-treating event.
Based on the success of our Chef’s
Around the Block event in July, we
will be launching the second event in
our Downtown Culinary Series this
November. Watch for details in our
bimonthly member e-news.
Friday, November 29th is booked
for the Candlelit Stroll presented
by Burlington Downtown and LaSalle
Park Retirement Community. This
year’s event will once again launch
the annual Burlington Lakeside
Festival of Lights!
More information about how to
get involved in these events will
be sent out in upcoming Member
eNewsletters. In the meantime, if you
are interested in finding out more
about sponsorship or participation in
any of these events, please contact:

Core Commitment
Councillor Marianne Meed Ward is the council representative on the BDBA’s Board of Directors. We asked her office to provide a status update on approved development projects in the downtown community. Here are some projects the downtown business community has been asking about:
COUNCILLOR’S CORNER
Bridgewater
South side of Lakeshore Road between
Elizabeth Street and Pearl Street
22-storey and 7-storey residential
condo, 8-storey four-star hotel, and
retail at ground floor along Lakeshore Rd.
Presales expected to begin in 2013 with
construction in 2014. The hotelier has
not been confirmed.
Medical/parking/condo complex
Caroline, John, Elizabeth, Maria Streets
17-storey apartment facing Maria
Street; 8-storey medical office facing
Caroline; ground floor retail; and
an 8-storey above ground/ 3-storey
underground parking structure with 522
commercial/residential spaces, increasing
current general public parking by 13 spaces
STATUS: The developer is negotiating
some of the community benefits and
conditions in the development agreement
that require upgrading the hydro service
in the area, and burying the hydro wires
from John to Pine Streets. An extension
until March 2014 was granted on
resolution of the terms. A holding zone
has been placed on the development until
these issues are resolved.
Tim Hortons - 601 Brant St.
former Blockbuster
A site plan application has been
submitted, and was reviewed by staff in
May, with comments sent back to Tim
Hortons. There are ongoing discussions
about aspects of the site plan layout to
ensure a high quality of design on the key
corner in the downtown.
STATUS: Construction is expected to begin
in the fall.
Village Square
Village Square has not been sold. Several
potential buyers have approached the
City to enquire about redevelopment
possibilities. Three of the buildings on the
site were reviewed by a heritage consultant
and the city’s Heritage Burlington
Citizen’s Advisory Committee. All have
heritage value and are worthy of heritage
designation, according to the review.
STATUS: City staff will be doing some further
studies on the potential cultural heritage value
of the Village Square as a whole.
Reichmann Seniors Housing
Pearl and Pine Streets
Approved in 2009, a 14-storey, 128-
unit retirement home facing Pearl Street
and a nine-storey tower facing Pine
Street, with ground floor commercial.
STATUS: Construction underway.

DOWNTOWN BOASTS NEW PARKING SIGNAGE
The City of Burlington parking
department has been working with
the BDBA and Tourism Burlington
to create a helpful map for visitors
to our downtown.
There are 14 locations at all the
Municipal downtown surface parking
lots, including waterfront lots in
Spencer Smith Park. They have been
designed to be accessible to all and
each includes a hard standing concrete
area around the sign base.
The map will indicate Downtown points
of interest, attractions, parks, visitor
information, shopping and business
locations and details on parking.
It will include a full list of events for the
Downtown and will be illuminated at night.
