The font in the film is interesting as it looks like writing on a chalk board, that a teacher may have written, also the background is of the chalk board emphasising that this is about school atmosphere.

Sound/ dialogue

• In the film the background music, is something that is more commonly known in Africa referring to the min characters heritage

• Also the dialogue of the characters is simple yet, the children in the film have a northern irish accent. They also have what some will call ‘potty mouths’ as they know and have learned the use of swearing towards the teachers and each other

Contrasts • In the film, we see that

in Africa the class room is full of mainly boys in bright blue uniform, their materials are simple and so is the classroom, while in the classroom in Ireland, the teacher is a woman, the fixtures are filled with their work, the doors are also painted pink showing that teaching here is more of a female dominated world- also the doors are painted pink and their uniform is burgundy.

• Here we see how, initially the ‘new boy’ was being picked on by the bully or the clown of the class, but as the new boy shows that he can stand up for him self, he gains respect from them, the situation is also comicilised by the character of Hazel as she try's to stick up for him.

This also emphasises how children can change so quickly, that something can be serious but when something comes along to interrupt's the situation it can be resolved.

Shot type

• Through the film the camera has favoured, close up and two man shots this is to show what is going on in the scene and as the main character does not speak a lot, we mostly depend on the actions of the character so that we can follow the story.

Continuity

• Through the film there has been a close linkage so that we can follow the story, we see the transition from him being at home in Africa and being happy, then this is changes.
