Cyclist crashes near railroad tracksWAUKESHA — Waukesha fire and rescue personnel attend to a fallen cyclist near the rail-road tracks on West Avenue at Progress Avenue on Monday evening. The accident occurredat approximately 5:10 p.m. Waukesha Police Sgt. Ian Dekarske said the cyclist lost control ofhis bike and crashed near the tracks. No other vehicles were involved. The cyclist had “minorinjuries, nothing serious” and was issued a citation, said Dekarske.

MUSKEGO — Vandalshave broken into bothMuskego and Tess Cornerselementary schools, whichcurrently are vacant,wreaking havoc and caus-ing thousands of dollars indamage.

Director of Operations &HR Jeremiah Johnson saidthat in mid-May, Muskego-Norway School Districtadministrators discoveredthat at Muskego Elementary,vandals dumped paint buck-ets, wrote on walls, dis-charged fire extinguishers,broke light tubes and put ahole in the wall.

“We were able to clean upthe facility using our custo-dial staff, so damages areapproximately $3,000 inlabor and materials,” saidJohnson.

At Tess Corners, severalrocks were thrown throughwindows.

Muskego Police CaptainDavid Constantineau saidofficers have arrested sever-al youths who have beenfound trespassing on theproperty. There have beenseveral incidents over thepast few months at Tess Cor-ners.

“We’ve had almost 1,000calls there (Tess Corners)this year so far,” Constan-tineau said.

Constantineau said thekids that were arrested wereticketed for trespassing andthe department will haveextra patrols stopping byboth buildings to deal withany potential future tres-

passers. “We’re trying to keep the

curious kids away,” Constan-tineau said.

Both Tess Corners andMuskego elementaryschools were closed as partof a 2016 referendum.

Voters approved closingboth schools, building a new

middle school on districtland and renovations at sev-eral other schools.

In January, the MuskegoCommon Council approvedan ordinance to rezone thesite of the former MuskegoElementary School, allowingfor a mixed-use residentialunit to be built.

Vandals broke into the former Muskego Elementary Schooland broke several light tubes, among other items, in mid-May.

Muskego-Norway School District officials say rocks havebeen thrown through several windows at the site of TessCorners Elementary, now empty.

NEW BERLIN — A 65-year-old New Berlin womanwas struck and killed by avehicle on Saturday night.

The woman was hit as shecrossed the 16000 block ofWest National Avenue inNew Berlin at approximate-ly 10:16 p.m.. She was pro-nounced dead at the scene

by personnel from theWaukesha County MedicalExaminer’s Office, accord-ing to a New Berlin PoliceDepartment press release.The woman has subse-quently been identified asMary Zinner.

The driver of the vehiclewas a 17-year-old New

Berlin woman. Sheremained at the scene ofthe crash and cooperatedwith the investigation. Shedid not appear to be underthe influence of drugs oralcohol, according to thepress release.

The incident remainsunder investigation.

NEW BERLIN — Accord-ing to a Facebook post fromthe New Berlin PoliceDepartment, Calhoun Roadwill be closed from CoffeeRoad to Observatory Roadfor resurfacing, beginning

today.Calhoun Road is expected

to reopen on July 3.The posted detour will fol-

low Coffee Road to MoorlandRoad, and then to NationalAvenue.

The weight restriction onCoffee Road from CalhounRoad to Moorland Road willbe temporarily lifted duringthis closure and homeown-ers will still be able to accesstheir properties.

Racine man allegedlysquatting in old Hardee’s

WAUKESHA — A Racineman was arrested after heallegedly broke into the oldHardee’s restaurant in the100 block of North BarstowStreet.

William C. Dow IV, 42, wascharged with criminal dam-age to property, misdemeanorbail jumping and entry into alocked building, according toa Waukesha County CircuitCourt criminal complaint.

An officer was conductinga routine patrol of Barstowand Bank streets on Sundaywhen he made contact with awoman who said she hadbeen strangled by a man. Thealleged victim claimed thatshe had been strangled by theman, later identified as Dow,but she had no physical signsof assault, according to thecomplaint.

The alleged victim thentold that she, Dow and anoth-er individual had broken intothe former Hardee’s and hadbeen living there for three

days. A large window just offthe drive-thru on the southside of the building was shat-tered, according to the com-plaint.

If convicted, Dow faces upto 2 years and three monthsin jail subject to penaltyenhancers for previouscrimes allegedly committed.

Woman charged afterallegedly revived withNarcan

WAUKESHA — A Milwau-kee woman allegedly col-lapsed at a Town of Brook-field hotel on Saturday andwas later found to be in pos-session of drugs.

Parios Cornett, 32, wascharged Monday in Wauke-sha County Circuit Courtwith possession of narcoticsand cocaine.

A criminal complaint saidpolice were dispatched to theQuality Inn, 20150 W. Blue-mound Road, at about 5:13p.m. Saturday and found Cor-nett lying near the entrance,breathing but not alert. Inone hand she had a cellphone

and cash; in her left hand, shehad a piece of wadded uppaper that contained a rock-like substance, later allegedlyfound to contain cocaine.Cornett, on probation for aprior narcotics possessioncase, was held by police andtaken to a hospital. There, anurse found in her mouth asmall black bag containingwhite pellets, the complaintsaid, adding Cornett respond-ed to Narcan consistent withsomeone who’d been usingnarcotics.

Cornett told police she liveswith a man who uses her forsexual favors and abuses herphysically, and said bruiseson her body were caused byhim, the complaint said. Itadded he told her to buycocaine and heroin that day,then took her to the hotel,gave her some heroin in ablack bag, gave her cash toget a room, then left to getfood. Security video at thehotel shows her falling to theground as the vehicle she wasin drives off, but no licenseplates were observed, thecomplaint said.
