Glossary

Vehicle Stability Control Plus (VSC+)VSC+ helps to maintain stability and prevent skidding when turning sharply or cornering on slippery surfaces. Whenever the start of a skid is detected, it automatically activates individual brakes and controls engine output. In addition, it applies steering assistance to make it easier to get back on course.

Active headrestsIn a rear impact, Active headrests move diagonally upwards and forwards to provide extra head support and reduce the risk of whiplash.

Emergency Brake-light Signal (EBS)In emergency braking situations, EBS flashes the vehicle’s brake lights repeatedly to alert following traffic.

Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW)* use two cameras to detect vehicle drift. This prompts an audible alert and gentle corrective steering.

Pre-Crash Safety (PCS)*The PCS system uses radar to predict possible collisions. It then triggers an audio-visual alarm, activates Brake Assist (BA), tenses seatbelts and will even engage the brakes to reduce potential damage on impact.

Dusk-sensing headlamps The dusk sensor monitors light levels and automatically switches on the headlights when the light is low.

Smart Entry & Start System Instead of a conventional key, the Smart Entry & Start System features a transmitter that allows you to unlock the doors by pulling the handle and lock them again by pressing a button. To start or stop the engine, simply press the Start/Stop button. All you need to do is carry the Smart Entry key in your pocket or handbag.

Electrochromatic mirror with built-in rear-view monitor For more convenient reversing, day or night, the rear-view mirror can be fitted with a monitor to show images from the rear-view camera.

Connected servicesToyota Touch & Go allows access to a selection of onboard internet-based services, harnessing the power of your mobile. Search for a restaurant, check local fuel prices, weather info, or find a parking space – all from your car. Your mobile phone will need to be compatible with Toyota Touch & Go, have a suitable data plan, and tethering enabled. Contact your phone provider for more details. Further applications are coming soon, downloadable from www.toyota.co.uk and may incur an extra cost.

Traction Control (TRC)If you accelerate too hard and cause the drive wheels to lose grip and begin spinning, TRC will automatically reduce engine power and control brake force to help restore traction.

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)*ACC keeps you at a minimum preset distance from the vehicle in front. If this distance falls, ACC reduces your speed and eventually the brakes will be applied and brake lights activated. If the distance increases again, ACC will gradually accelerate until you return to your chosen cruising speed.

* Can only be purchased as part of the Safety Option pack.

Rain-sensing wipersThe automatic rain sensor instantly sets the appropriate wiper speed and intervals.

Brake Assist (BA) If you attempt an emergency stop, BA will detect this and apply additional brake pressure. This enables ABS to work to its maximum potential.

Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) airbagsThis model is fitted with seven airbags. They include driver’s knee airbag, SRS airbags for both driver and passenger, side airbags for the front seats, and SRS curtain shield airbags covering both the front and rear seat passengers.

Euro NCAP safety ratingAvensis has been awarded the maximum 5-star vehicle safety rating (2009) from Euro NCAP. This independent assessment programme evaluates the safety performance of new cars. Vehicles are awarded a score from one to five stars. Categories assessed are adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, pedestrian protection and safety assist. This car’s performance is a further testament to Toyota’s dedication to the safety and protection of drivers, passengers and pedestrians alike.

Each design detail on our vehicles is analysed to ensure the lowest possible environmental impact throughout its life cycle. This meticulous approach has led to an array of innovative features on our cars that contribute to environmental efficiency.

The environmental impact of the Avensis (engine type 1AD-FTV – diesel) compared to its previous model (engine type 1CD-FTV – diesel) is demonstrated through the complete life cycle analysis with 17% CO2 (Carbon Dioxide), 19% NOx (Nitrogen Oxide), 17% NMHC (Non-Methane Hydrocarbons), 38% PM (Particulate Matter) and 3% SOx (Sulphur Oxide) reduction.

At Toyota, every effort is made to ensure environmental efficiency throughout the manufacturing process. Since 2002, we have reduced the average energy consumption per vehicle built at Toyota Motor Manufacturing United Kingdom by 7.5%. Waste disposed of at cost was also reduced by 33.9% and the plant no longer sends any waste to landfill sites.

Designing your car Making your carTMUK is set to be the first car manufacturer in the UK to install a large-scale solar panel array. It will be located on 90,000m2 of industrial land within the plant and consist of around 17,000 panels – enough to cover almost four and a half football pitches – all of which will be manufactured in the UK.

Generating electricity for use on site, the project will help reduce the plant’s carbon footprint, support energy security and cut power bills. The scheme will save up to 2,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year and the saving in energy will be equivalent to 4,600,000 kWh. When fully operational it will be capable of supplying enough energy to build approximately 7,000 cars a year.

We have developed a sustainable Toyota Centre programme to reduce energy, water and waste emissions generated across our network. This covers everything from rainwater recycling, introducing additional roof insulation and using renewable energy at new Toyota Centres, as well as carrying out energy audits to identify efficiency improvements at existing Toyota Centres.

Intelligent designThe Avensis is designed and engineered to minimise maintenance costs. There are fewer parts that require servicing and those that do are inherently durable to extend service intervals. Toyota quality serviceYour Toyota Centre will talk you through the Avensis ‘Health and Safety’ maintenance programme. The programme is very straightforward and designed for your convenience. In effect, your Avensis needs a full Health and Safety check, dependent on driving style and conditions, up to once every two years or mileage related* (whichever comes sooner). An intermediate Health and Safety check is necessary every year or mileage related* (whichever comes sooner).

5-Year Toyota WarrantyEvery new Toyota car comes with a five-year/100,000-mile warranty, whichever comes first, with no mileage limitation for the first year. Rust and paint defects The warranty also covers surface rust and paint defects appearing on any of the painted body panels as a result of a fault in materials for a period of three years, regardless of mileage.

Extended Warranty After the initial warranty period has ended, you can extend your warranty until the vehicle is seven years old – choosing from a range of packages to suit your vehicle and your needs. All of our warranties cover the main component parts of the vehicle§, meaning that you pay for nothing beyond routine servicing and maintenance, so there are no unexpected bills to pay.

Corrosion cover The warranty offers 12 years’ coverage, regardless of mileage, against perforation of the bodywork (from inside to outside) that develops due to corrosion caused by faults in materials or workmanship.

Toyota genuine partsThe Avensis is designed to minimise the cost of accident repair. Energy-absorbing elements are built into the bumpers, expensive-to-replace parts are located away from damage zones, and commonly damaged body parts are bolted rather than welded. As a result, the extent of damage is limited and damaged parts are easy to remove, replace or repair. Ultimately, this means very low parts and labour charges.

Toyota accessoriesToyota accessories are designed and manufactured with the same care, quality and attention to detail as Toyota vehicles.
