District Governorʼs Message
As we embark on the Lions year 2014-2015 we are entering a new phase of Lionism. In 2017 Lions will be 100 years old and the Lions International upcoming campaign is to do 100 million acts of service for people by December 2017. Along with this Lions International is going high tech by going on Facebook, twitter, Utube and they are encouraging your club do the same. Very shortly the only way to report to International will be by the internet and they will not be accepting any paper reports.
Although it has been summer time we have been very busy attending meetings and different functions that have been going on as many clubs have remained active. As fall fast approaches many clubs are gearing up for the coming year and planning for their upcoming events and projects. Make sure you report these to international so that it can be recorded.
Speaking of club meetings, we are setting up our visitation schedule to the clubs. So contact me with a date to visit your club as I would like to celebrate with you. Please get to me by the end of September with a date to visit your club after which I will start assigning dates. This is also a great time to help fulfill our International President’s theme of “Strengthen the Pride” by asking people to visit your club and show them the great work that Lions do.
We held our first Cabinet Meeting on Sunday, August 17 at the Bucks County Blind in Newtown which was well attended. During the meeting the cabinet voted to do away with the District MMR (Monthly Membership Report) for lions clubs as it is a duplication of what you send monthly to the International website via MyLCI. It is important that clubs include their activities in the LCI monthly report not only for the reason I stated above, but also so our District can continue to summarize them in the Announcer. Lioness Clubs will need to continue using the MMR since they are not included in the LCI website.
Banner Night is fast approaching and if you haven’t sent in your reservation please do so as the deadline is September, 5th. Also don’t forget your ad for the program book. We will have as our guest Mark Kusma, who is the State Council chairperson. This is a night to honor Club Presidents and Secretary’s.
LCI’s service for October is Sharing the Vision and with the holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas fast approaching don’t forget those in need of food and clothing.
So are you ready to “Strengthen the Pride” by helping those in need and asking someone to be your fellow Lion so that you can ease someone’s suffering ? Remember: WE SERVE, It’s the right thing to do.
Yours in Lions D.G. Jim Jim

1st Vice District Governor CommentsAugust 2nd was State Council Meeting in Harrisburg. All 1st Vice District Governors attended the Hearing Research Dinner on Friday Night before Council meeting. There was no Green Jackets in the room that night. The dress code for the Hearing Research Dinner was business casual. Early Saturday morning (7 am) I attended Vice District Governors class. All Districts now have 1st Vice District Governors. On August 8, eleven (11) 1st Vice District Governor’s and 8 Partners in Service attended
Leader Dog School in Michigan. Also present was DG Gene Shellhammer from District 14-J. It was a great experience for all of us. There were 92 Lions and Partners in Service in the class from the US. For lunch on Friday the school serves chili and donuts. When PDG’s tell you about the donuts being large they are really large. The donut holes were bigger than some donuts you purchase. I had the opportunity of being blind-folded and walk with a Leader dog. It was amazing feeling depending on the dog to lead you to safety.
In September of 2015 the USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum will be in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Leader Dog is planning a bus trip to the school before the Forum begins. It will be a great opportunity to see the School. I am looking forward to seeing the new kennels.
