COLLECTIONS
THE WHITECOLLECTION
THE WHITE COLLECTION
materials and weaving course Iautumn 2009
The White Colection is a result of structure studies. The colour span is limited to give the structure priority. The collection draws it’s inpsiration from home and nature. Home, as the commonplace and the Finnish nature, as a luxury in the bare north.

The brief was to make a color journey within the collection, I chose Arabia of the myths to be the destination of my journey. The collection showcases sand from the dunes and riches in the tents of a bedouin in the spirit of the 1001 Nights’ Tales.

SUDENMORSIANSUDENMORSIAN –THE WOLF’S BETROTHED
materials and weaving course IIIautumn 2010
This collection includes my first woven jacquard design made with a TC1-loom. The collection is my interpretation of a Prix Italia winning Finnish opera The Wolf’s Betrothed by Tauno Pylkkänen. I made a fashion textile collection for the heroine of the story, and illustrated my designs into a photo of the silent film star Clara Bow, who I consider to be the modern face of the opera’s heroine.

ON THE RAILSON THE RAILS
materials and weaving course IVspring 2011
On The Rails is a collection of uphol-stery fabrics designed for the interiors of trains and railway stations. My goal was to spice up the spaces in which people spend hours in. This collection is very concept driven, since it focuses on the need for change in the image and atmos-phere of Finnish the railway company VR.
PROJECTS
WHISPERWHISPER –A SHRUG
INDEPEndent courseSUMMER 2010
A light-weight shrug woven of mohair during an independent course in Summer 2010. I designed three concepts and color worlds for the shrug and wove one of them. The concepts are Talvipäivä – A Winterday, Karkelo – Festival and Iltarusko – Nightfall. I loved to see how my initial thoughts developed into the final product and also the process of picking out colors to make differing color worlds.

GREENGABLES
INSTALLATIONTO BE IMPLEMENTED
Greengables is a textile art work designed to provide comfort and strength. The project started as an Art course work in Spring 2011. It’s a work plan made especially for Käpytikka – a assisted living home for disabled young adults based in Helsinki. The space in which I planned this work is very white, clean and office like – it’s not the living room for the residents as it is supposed to be. I wanted to bring happiness, life and a bit of the jungle in the space. This work plan has got support from the residents and will be carried out some time in the future.
The swatches will be made in work-shops with the residents of Käpy-
tikka from their recycled fabrics
RECENT WORK & IN PROGRESS
TULIPTULIP
SELF-initiated projectspring 2011
This is a single fabric I designed as a spare-time project in Spring 2011 as I wanted to rehearse my skills with jacquard. I aimed to make a photo-realistic pattern of tulips and choose the structures for a two-weft-system in a way that would bring out nuances from the colors as they are woven to the dark loom. I also added a third weft, but it’s only used partly to save material. During this quick project I gave up on my photo-realistic aims and chose metal thread and broken lilac as my two main wefts and a light blue weft as the third.
THE VEILTHE VEIL – A COLLECTION OF PRINTED FABRICS
PRINT WORKSHOP COURSESPRING 2011
This collection shows a good glimpse of my visual interests. The collection was designed in Printing workshop in Spring 2011. It’s patterns – The Smoke, The Ink, The Fading Flowers – were not printed in the course since the course concentrated on sketching techniques and the design process.

LILACSLILACS
independent jacquard courseSUMMEr 2011
This work in progress will be a collection of jacquards for an independent jacquard course this Summer. I’m developing further the same ideas of the print collection The Veil. The fabrics are designed as clothing fabrics. Two of them are double-faced, so they can be used either side up. The loom is wool-tencel and the wefts are silk and mohair. The third fabric mixes satins and tabby in a tubular structure and that with a two-weft-system.
