The Prevalence of Stupidity

Abstract: This short article is just to predict how politics will play out in the next 10-15 years, starting

with the 2010 midterm elections.

If you thought that politics was shit earlier, wait until all the incumbents have been kicked out.

Welcome to the new decade: our era will no longer be ruled by somewhat logical reasoning or lobbyists. It will be ruled by whining ignoramuses who appeal to the American public through intense

emotional reasoning and fear mongering (much more than we do now) to push insensible agendas

through.

The meta game of election is quickly changing. People are indeed getting mad at the government and

blaming Obama for all the bad things that have happened. They are also getting mad at the politicians

who are elected right now because they feel that the people's opinion is not being represented. Theyfeel that all the government currently wants is to revoke civil liberties. Therefore, what the people are

doing now are kicking out every senator and representative and replacing them with other people who

have little to no political background. Appeals are now done though emotions and anger and no longer with logic.

I must say with certainty though that this is not surprising. For years, fear mongering has been thefavored tactic of politicians and people alike and augmenting this in a politician environment was an

inevitability. The problem I have with this shift is that the population is now ruled by stupid. Not

emotion, but stupid.

Now why do I believe that emotions will be the name of the game and stupidity will be the chairman?

The Tea Party (as an example)Yes, these Teabaggers really know how to throw the words “freedom” and “constitution” around. But

none of their agenda makes sense in retrospect.

They want free trade, but want the jobs to stay in America.

They want to kill the income tax, but complain about people not paying their fair share.

They want to end social welfare and social security, but do not believe that they are receiving any. They want to kill “Obama-care”, even though the majority of America supports health care reform.

They call themselves impartial, but 75% watch Fox News.

The love the PATRIOT ACT and the Constitution.

They call themselves patriots while forgetting that people of the left wing are really human. They call themselves diverse but have a 99% population of white people.

The only way that a group of bigots like the Tea Party could organize is through sheer emotion andanger. Clearly, their agenda is out of line but if one takes each part of these sentences and puts them on

their own, it sounds very logical. Yes, people love the PATRIOT ACT because they feel safe. They also

love the Constitution. But these people do not take the time to take two and two together and onlyrecently have they finally spoke out against the PATRIOT ACT (which was something nobody did

during Bush, once again proving that logic does not rule these people.)

These Tea Party people have taken over 30% of the GOP and have begun sweeping their people into

office just like in Nevada. As the Party becomes a frightening force that threatens to take over the GOP

(despite their claim that they are nonpartisan), it becomes more and more apparent people are swayed

by this idea of “taking back our country” without a straightforward agenda or plan. Nobody needs logic

to be convinced of joining the Party or even in supporting a person: all they have to do is drink the

Kool-aid and believe the sweet sounding lies.

Incumbents

People are mad at the current senators and for good reason: the 2001 Patriot Act that nobody protested

9 years ago, the immigration problem that has been going on for more than a decade, and shit that[usually] doesn't make sense. Yet, people believe that our current senators are the source of the

problem. Therefore, they will be swept out of office (maybe Ron Paul will stay in) simply on the basis

that the politicians “passively” contributed to the problem.

Republicans are screaming at their senators that if they really tried that the Republicans could have

easily blocked Obama-care. Well, all the Republicans voted against the health care bill and gave the

blue dog argument of national debt (which seems to be the only logical argument on their side) andeven threw some fear mongering around with “socialized medicine.” What more do the people want?

To say that terrorists will shoot everyone unless the Health Care bill is voted down? To cry like babies

on national television? But to these voters, the answer to those questions is yes because nobodyunderstands that you need more than 40 votes to block a bill in the Senate. Therefore, the new people

who are voted into office will engage in emotional arguing parallel to that of a six year old's.

So the only reason that people are mad at the current senators is because nothing went the people's way.

VerdictYes, we will be ruled by emotional reasoning. People are mad at the current senators because they feel

that the big government agenda is a reality. Therefore, whoever can say they will suck the

Constitution's privates the hardest will be voted into office: people love civil liberties, the same ones

that they feel that the government is trying to take away. Furthermore, because the people feel that the politicians didn't do enough to represent their interests, the people will invent new ways outside of

logic to push their agenda through. So how does someone push an agenda using something other than

logic? Acting like a bigot and a six year old.

In fact, this will be the new age of American politics: whoever can say that they love freedom and

democracy will be considered, regardless of prior experience. This may just be my opinion, but I do notsee this as too far fetched. Welcome to the new age my friends: be prepared people debating like your

six year old child on television.
