HANDOFF or HANDOVER Changing the channel associated with the current

connection while a call is in progress.

Handoff between more or less different wireless

technologies is termed as VERTICAL HANDOFF. WLAN and UMTS are two types of networks

    considered here.

Load management, collective battery life time of the

mobile devices connected and signal strength areconsidered as the criteria for handoffs

BS-base station, AP-access point and MN-mobilenodes are the notations used

    OUTLINE OF LOAD MANAGEMENTALGORITHM

Determine the signal strength of each MN.

When large numbers of MNs are connected to an

AP/BS the bandwidth gets reduced due to largetraffic.

Identify the connection points with fair amount ofsignal strength and least load.

The MNs undergo handoff process to thoseconnection points which has least load distributionand ample amount of signal strength.

If signal strength of mobile node:(R.S.S< 10mw)

    Perform handoff.

    Y(i)=min{bw of MNs APi, BSi}.

    if Y(i)>>threshold, establish connection.

When connections are to be migrating betweenheterogeneous networks for performance andhigh-availability reasons, then seamless vertical

handoff is a necessary and an essential step.

The proposed three algorithms providesefficient management of resources to lendenhanced performances to the users
