HOUSING UNITS
Rental Assistance Demonstration-NAHA has applied for a tax credits to remove 116 units of Public Housing Units, and replace them with 70 “Green” energy efficient units. The new units will connect with the New Albany street grid, and become a new neighborhood.

Rationale: Community outreach programs are valuable referral resources to assist in keeping communities mentally stable as well as educating and providing services for individuals living with mental illnesses. (Honberg, et al., 2011).

Rationale: Research shows that in-home behavioral case management programs are effective because individuals gain better coping skills and decrease stress and subsequent factors (Theis, et al., 2006).

INTERVENTIONSFamily Services Self-Sufficiency Program will continue to explore and expand mental health outreach programs.
Rationale: Mental health outreach support programs that include lifestyle management and work-site programs have been effective in reducing stress and improving the mental health status among those living with mental illnesses (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2010).

The NAHA FSS Coordinator and the Indiana University Southeast Nursing Program will review the possibility of continuing the service learning project in the fall of 2014.
