MISSION

Young Women’s College Preparatory Academy aims to provide a nurturing environment for young women that

encourages integrity, fosters social responsibility, and develops the self-confidence necessary to attend and graduate

college and become powerful women leaders in the global community.

VISION

YWCPA will produce female scholars who demonstrate academic excellence and college readiness in areas such as Arts

& Humanities, STEM and Multidisciplinary studies. The exposure that our girls receive will ensure that they will be

resilient, confident, independent thinkers who are able to excel in any environment, setting or situation.

The YWCPA community supports the social and emotional well-being and development of its students and families.

YWCPA scholars will be responsible global citizens and influential contributors to their community.

COLLEGE READINESS

Our ultimate goal is to have 100% of the students in its sponsored schools attend and graduate college. To this end, the schools offer a rigorous college preparatory curriculum that has proven to raise expectations and increase educational performance among the students. Through grants and donations, Young Women’s Preparatory Network supports programs that enhance the educational experiences of our students. These year-round programs include critical areas as summer learning, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). To support the mission that every girl attend college, we have a full-time College Bound Advisor on each campus. And to ensure our teachers are exceptionally prepared and equipped, we provide training and enhancement opportunities.

RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP

Young Women’s Preparatory Network’s education plan emphasizes leadership development to awaken and strengthen the potential within each of our students. We teach our girls responsible decision-making and accountability, and stress community service and global awareness.

WELLNESS LIFE SKILLS

We believe wellness life skills are critical to the long-term health and happiness of our young women. We stress the importance of a healthy lifestyle through daily physical activity, nutritional education, and making smart choices.

Students are expected to engage in asynchronous and synchronous learning.

Asynchronous Instruction

Pre-recorded lessons from teachers

Provides options to adapt learning activities and accommodate student needs

Student’s learning experience is exceedingly self-guided with intermittent teacher interaction in which

students engage in learning instructional material on their own time

Students complete self-paced and personalized activities via the HUB and other district-provided digital

resources (Imagine Learning, digital textbooks, Achieve 3000, etc.).

-VS-

Synchronous Instruction

Live, face-to-face interaction with teachers

Teacher delivers regularly short increments of synchronous instruction using real-time, live instruction

via Microsoft Teams

These short time increments of synchronous instruction will happen regularly as a part of the

asynchronous plan

Students attend Microsoft Teams class meetings for short synchronous instruction.

STUDENTS ACCESS INSTRUCTION VIA THE HUB AND COMMUNICATE WITH

TEACHERS USING MICROSOFT TEAMS.

*During ROSE time students will engage with grade-level assemblies, Social Emotional Learning opportunities, College Bound lessons, mentorships,

teambuilding, clubs, etc. If their grade or advocacy does not have a scheduled session during this time, students are expected to work on school

assignments or digital resources in the HUB.

College and Career Support

During the fall semester, our seniors need to fill out college applications, scholarship applications, and financial aid applications. Currently the FAFSA application opens October 1st and the Texas Priority Deadline is January 15, 2021. We are fortunate to have a College Bound Advisor to help our students navigate their path to college. During distance learning, our CBA will continue to offer virtual financial aid workshops, virtual college tours, and more. Please reach out to them with questions or concerns.

Social Emotional Support

YWCPA is thankful for a campus counselor and nurse to support students socially, emotionally, physically, and academically. This year we have added a Wraparound Specialist who will be able to assist families with needs that act as a barrier to learning. Should you need support, their contact information is below.

Reach out to Nichole Gonzalez with any questions.

Counselor Sonji Brown [email protected]

Nurse Carla Carter [email protected]

Wraparound Specialist Andrea Randolph [email protected]

Clear lines of communication are vital at any time, but especially as we continue virtual learning. YWCPA will use Living Tree as its primary source of general communication. If you need support with Living Tree, please reach out to Mrs. Paula Baker Thomas [email protected] Principal Communication: Dr. Williams will additionally send extremely important or timely campus updates via school messenger that will come to the email address and phone number in our student information system. Please make sure your contact information is up to date. If you need to update your contacts, please reach out to our campus registrar, Mrs. Luckett [email protected] Teacher Communication: Many of our teachers also have ways to update families for their classes. The best way to contact teachers initially is through email.

YWCPA PTO: Our PTO does an amazing job of disseminating information. If you have questions for the PTO, you may email them at [email protected] and also follow them on Twitter @YWCPAPTO Parent Connect: The district has launched the HISD Connect Parent Portal. You can sign up using your unique code, or access ID, for each of your students. You will be able to use that code to set up an account to access your student’s profile through the HISD Connect Parent Portal. After setting up an account on a web browser, you will be able to use the login credentials you created to access your student’s profile on the HISD Connect app, which can be downloaded for free from the App Store or Google Play. Once signed up, you will be able to use the HISD Connect Parent Portal as a tool to track information related to your student’s schedules, grades, attendance, academic history, and more. For more information, visit HoustonISD.org/ParentPortal. You are encouraged to follow our social media pages for celebrations and updates.
