Assisted Living & MeMory CAre CoMMunities
Offer help with non-medical aspects of daily activities in an atmosphere of separate, pri-
vate living units. In addition to providing meals, transportation for medical appoint-ments, activities and pleasure trips, assist-ed living may supply: linens and personal laundry service, assistance with dressing and bathing, reminder regarding medica-tion, and assistance with eating, transfer-ring to and from a wheelchair, toileting, etc. The best candidate for assisted living is someone who needs help with daily ac-tivities, but doesn’t need ‘round the clock’ skilled nursing care. The ideal facility pro-vides services and personal assistance in a group setting that helps its resident’s lead active, healthy lives. In many cases, as-sisted living communities offer extensive services for early stage Alzheimer’s disease patients. Private pay rates vary depending on care and services needed. A physician’s approval is required for admission.
Alzheimer’s and Memory Care Communi-ties Alzheimer’s is a progressive, degenera-tive disease that attacks the brain, result-ing in impaired memory, thinking and behavior. It is only one of several forms of dementia. Alzheimer’s care communi-ties are special units or free-standing com-munities designed to sensitively care for those with Alzheimer’s or memory related disorders. These communities offer safe and secure residential care for those who need 24-hour assistance. Other senior liv-ing environments may be appropriate for residents in early, or even mid stages of the disease. However, unless they have a spe-cialized dementia unit, transfer from an-other facility will be required as the disease progresses. A family’s private resources or long- term care insurance generally funds Alzheimer’s care communities.

Southern Nevadans and others across the nation who are battling prostate can-cer have a new treatment option thanks in part to the tenacity and research led by local medical and radiation oncologists at Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Ne-vada (CCCN). The Food and Drug Administra-tion approved Radi-um 223 now com-mercially known as Xofigo earlier this year, which proved effective in patients whose prostate can-cer had metastasized to their bones. Xo-figo is designed as liquid radiation to attack prostate can-cer cells that have grown in patients’ bones. This enables oncologists to reach those spreading cells when surgery or other options have been unsuccessful. The active ingredient – Radium 223 – targets cancer cells in the bones and leaves unaffected areas untouched and un-harmed. This is a breakthrough in treat-ment options because prostate cancer me-tastasizes to the bones of nearly 95 percent of all prostate cancer patients. Medical Oncologist, Nicholas Vogel-zang, who has been involved with prostate cancer research for more then 30 years, ensured the clinical research study became available in Nevada. He and Radiation Oncologists, Farzaneh Farzin and Michael
J. Anderson, tested the drug and reported multiple benefits to patients. “During the research study, we wit-nessed a trifecta of benefits in Xofigo – it reduces pain, improves quality of life and extends the life of patients,” Dr. Vogelzang
said. “It also reduces the need for narcot-ics to control pain, reduces the need for external radiation and helps prevent bone fractures.” Las Vegas was one of two cities in the United States treating prostate cancer patients dur-ing the research study. Others were treated during the research phase in
Europe. According to the CCCN oncolo-gists, the drug has few or less severe side effects compared to other treatments. Many patients reported feeling normal again after receiving Xofigo. According CCCN, more than 241,000 men are diagnosed annually with prostate cancer and more than 28,000 die from the disease each year. Although this new drug was designed specifically for pros-tate cancer, Drs. Vogelzang, Farzin and An-derson see the potential for using Xofigo to treat breast cancer and other types of cancer that can spread to the bones. More studies will be required before those possible ben-efits are known.

It is said that Shamanic Healers see with their “heart” to get important healing in-formation for physical, emotional and spiritual problems. For thousands of years, ancient Shamans were responsible for the general well being of the tribes. Classic Shamans still exist in indigenous cultures. The word Shaman is from the Tungus tribe of Siberia which means “one who sees in the dark”.Modern day Shamans can be found as healers, doctors, psychotherapists, mystics, storytell-ers or spiritual guidance counselors for their communities. However, all Shamans have one thing in common... they walk a spiritual path called Shamanism which believes everything that exists is alive and has a spirit. All nature (be it rock, tree, animal, human, earth, air, fire, water, planet, or star, etc.) is interconnected through the great web of life and a transcen-dent universal energy that is limitless. Illness occurs when we feel separate and out of bal-ance from each other and life. Some Shamans say that we are “asleep” and lost in illusion or a dream.Shamans perform a variety of ceremonies and rituals that work with nature to restore harmo-ny and balance. This supports the body, mind or spirit that is doing it’s best heal. Many times a Shamanic healer can provide the missing link for someone who has “tried everything”.It doesn’t replace medical or psychological methods.
It does enhance and become the 3rd side of the healing triangle. No two Shamans are alike, but, they all use the ritual of Shamanic Journey to go into an al-tered state of consciousness. It is also described as traveling outside of time and space into hid-den realms or non-ordinaryreality. This is typically done with the use of a monotonous drumbeat, rattle, chanting or singing. In this altered state, the shamans interact with helping guiding spirits that surround us all. They are made of loving transcendent energy that takes the form of a power animal or teach-er in human form. Questions are asked during the journey, such as “How can Susan move for-ward with her life and find peace?” or “What can John do to improve his health?”. The sug-gestions offered by the Helping Spirits might vary. Suggestions that include employing other rituals such as Soul Retrieval or Extraction; to walking to a tree, placing your back against it’s trunk and letting it carryyour worries to Mother Earth. The results can be dramatic and suddenly obvious or slow and deeply moving, like a calm river. Either way, a change can happen in the healing process of the client.Consider Shamanic Healing as an option if you need more support on your healing path. At the very least you will reduce your stress levels and reconnect with nature in a positive way.

George Bernard Shaw once said “Youth is wasted on the young.” Were he alive today, he might well say that computers and the Internet are wasted on the young. The very people who can benefit most from the digital revolution are the ones who are least likely to take advantage of it. Computers seem to be designed for teenagers, and many older folks are intimidated by the complex operating systems and complicated navigation. It’s gotten so bad that some people have to pay for instructional videos or go to classes just to use their computer. Now, the leader in developing products for Boomers and Beyond™ has introduced a computer that’s designed just for people like you. It’s helping thousands of people get back into life by keeping them connected.
Let’s start with the computer itself. It features the latest touchscreen technology, so if you can dial a phone, you can use this computer. If you’d rather use a keyboard and a mouse, we’ve included those too. The keyboard features large lettering and the trackball mouse is easy to use. The speakers enable you to turn up the volume if you have trouble hearing, and there is even a built-in camera for taking photographs of yourself and for video chat.
Why this operating system is different. From the second you turn on your WOW computer, you’ll see the difference. Instead of “clicking and dragging and dropping” little icons, you simply touch the screen. The display is simple and easy to understand and the navigation couldn’t be easier. Just touch and go. All the fun, none of the problems. The WOW Computer is designed to avoid the two biggest headaches in computer use– viruses and spam. It comes to you ready to use right out of the box, all you need is a high-speed internet connection.
Once you’ve experienced this computer, you’ll wish you had gotten one sooner. It comes to you with firstSTREET’s exclusive risk-free home trial. Try it for yourself, and if you are not completely satisfied simply return it within 30 days for a full refund of the product purchase price.
“Now with my simple-to-use WOW Computer, I don’t have to miss a thing.”

Have you ever thought about seeing a chiropractor but decided not to because you had some doubts or concerns? Someone you know may have shared their experiences with seeing a doctor of chiro-practic. Or, maybe you have heard some stories about chiropractors. As a chiropractor, please al-low me to tell you a little about chiropractic care. First, let me as-sure you that chiroprac-tors are not here to replace your family physician or any other specialist that you may need. In fact, I will often confer with your other doctors on a regular basis to insure that you are getting the best care for your needs and that all of your doctors are kept “in the loop” regarding your treatment and condition. Chiropractors are experts at treating the spine and nervous system to ensure that the spine is free of any nerve pressure that can affect the body. Nerve pressure can cause pain, numbness, pins and needles, weakness in the arms and legs, and can also affect your overall health because the nervous system controls and coordinates all of the functions of your body. In my twenty- four years of prac-tice, many patients have told me that their irregular bowel movements have become regular since their lower back pain has gotten better. They also commonly report that the elimination of their neck or back
pain has resulted in increased strength in their arms and legs and that their head-aches have gone away. And, I frequently hear that patients can move their necks more freely, so they drive more safely and with less discomfort. Chiropractic care
will effectively treat whip-lash from car accidents and chronic pain, as well as other injuries. Arthritis and diabetic neuropathy (nerve pain re-sulting from diabetes) have also responded well to chi-ropractic care. This is not to say that chiropractic is a cure to either condition, but treatment of both of
these conditions in my practice has given patients tremendous relief. Chiropractors use many differ-ent treatment techniques which are cus-tomized to the individual patient’s needs and are really quite gentle. Sometimes a chiropractic adjustment, which involves a gentle movement of a specific vertebra of the spine, is all that is required to help a patient. Exercise and physical therapy modalities are used to help certain condi-tions as well. As a chiropractor, I want you to be in the best of health and free of pain. I am always here to help you with any ques-tions or concerns you may have. Please feel free to give me a call any time so I can help you personally, or with the needs of a loved one .
