The city is a trade center for a mining and agricultural area. In 1861, when the Territory of Nevada was created, the city was made the capital, and in 1864 it became the state capital.

Andre Kirk Agassi (1970) Was an American tennis player, born in Las Vegas, Neveda. Trained by his Armenian immigrant father, he turned professional in 1986.
He won a total of 60 singles titles during his career.
Agassi, who retired in 2006, is married to Steffi Graf ex world No. 1 tennis player.
In 2010, Sports Illustrated named Agassi the 7th greatest male player of all time. On 9 July 2011, Agassi was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Newport, Rhode Island.
Hoover Dam
Hoover Dam, 221 m. high and 379 m. long, on the Colorado River between Nevada and Arizona, one of the world's largest dam's.
Built between 1931 and 1936 by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, the dam is named for President Herbert Hoover.
