Parent/Teacher Meengs This week, parent/teacher meengs have been taking place. The school is commied to keeping parents informed about their child’s learning and social development. This year, we have encouraged parents to meet with their child’s teacher face to face, whilst also offering Zoom as an opon, to make parent/teacher meengs even more accessible. Our school plan for 2021-2024 is about to be released. A clear vision stated in this plan is that we wish to see children being involved in future teacher/ parent meengs. There is evidenced-based research that points to children talking about their progress with their teachers and parents is a powerful way for them to take responsibility for their learning. We believe when children take responsibility for their learning, it can improve their learning outcomes. Your feedback on the parent/teacher meengs would be invaluable, as we progress into our new school plan for 2021- 2024. Parent/Teacher MeetingsThis week, parent/teacher meetings have been taking place. The school is committed to keeping parents informed about their child’s learning and social development. This year, we have encouraged parents to meet with their child’s teacher face to face, whilst also offering Zoom as an option, to make parent/teacher meetings even more accessible.

Our school plan for 2021-2024 is about to be released. A clear vision stated in this plan is that we wish to see children being involved in future teacher/parent meetings. There is evidenced-based research that points to children talking about their progress with their teachers and parents is a powerful way for them to take responsibility for their learning. We believe when children take responsibility for their learning, it can improve their learning outcomes.

Your feedback on the parent/teacher meetings would be invaluable, as we progress into our new school plan for 2021-2024. Please click the link or QR code below to complete a short survey: https://forms.gle/dj48T9sb8q1PrJUn9.

Principal's Awards AssembliesThe Principal’s Awards Assemblies will be held tomorrow on Thursday 25 March. For this term, the assemblies will be held at a grade level in the School Hall. As parents and carers cannot attend, we will publish the photos of our award recipients in the newsletter. Parents have been notified by email if their child is receiving an award.

The PBL program is designed to instil values in our students of respect, responsibility and doing your best. The focus is not the stickers or certificate, but it is recognition of intrinsic motivation that a child has demonstrated these values, which we hope our children will take with them as citizens. Each student has a Positive Behaviour for Learning folder. They accumulate stickers from the day they begin at Neutral Bay Public School. Every 20 stickers is recognised at a Principal’s assembly which is held once a term.

Year 5 Camp - 28 to 30 AprilThe note for Year 5 camp went home with your child last week. This note is also available on Skoolbag and the school website. An information session for parents on Zoom is being organised for Monday 29 March at 5pm. An email with details of the Zoom session was sent home on Monday 22 March to Year 5 parents. If you need more information, please contact Genevieve Carnegie at [email protected].

ICAS AssessmentsNeutral Bay Public School will be participating in the ICAS Assessments again this year. Entry is optional. Like last year, assessments will be held at school from 8.30am to 9.30am on the day of the assessment. The assessment dates and times will be announced in Term 3. The cost per test is $17.05 including GST.

The online ICAS Assessments are designed to recognise academic excellence and are rigorous in nature. Students are assessed on their ability to apply classroom learning to new contexts using higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics and Science.

If you would like your child to participate in any or all of the competitions, please visit the online parent payment system HERE to make a direct payment to UNSW Global. You will need the school’s unique access code which is NSK511.

The last day for payment is Sunday 25 July. After this date, the parent payment portal will close.

Please enter your child’s name accurately into the system, as it will appear on their ICAS certificate.

If you would like more information, please visit https://www.unswglobal.unsw.edu.au/, or contact Ms Carnegie at [email protected].

COVID GuidelinesParents and carers are reminded that students must not attend school if they are unwell, even with the mildest of symptoms. Students must return a negative COVID-19 test and be symptom free prior to returning to school.

Our routines for drop off and pick up procedures are continuing.

It is our preference that parents ‘kiss and drop’ at the gates in the morning and pick up in the afternoon as per current routines, as it is difficult to maintain social distancing on a small school site such as ours. The routine for dismissal is:• 3:10pm Dismissal of Kindergarten and Year 1

(Bydown gates) and Year 2 (grass gate). Older siblings of K-2 children in Years 3, 4, 5 & 6

• 3:15pm Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 are dismissed from classrooms. Children attending tennis, dance, karate and drama meet at the Music Room

Starlight FoundationNext Tuesday 30 March, students are invited to dress in purple and/or stars, to show support for the Starlight Foundation. There will be a gold coin donation for children who are participating. Children are to wear school uniform if they do not wish to wear purple and/or stars. This is not a mufti or free choice day. Please see page 3 for the flyer.

School FeesA statement of account has been emailed to parents. The statement of account covers costs of additional items that are above the Department of Education’s curriculum provision, such as excursions, sport coaching and online learning programs. In addition, there are voluntary contributions which are collected by the P&C. The P&C provides the school with important resources for items and teachers which are beyond the school’s remit. Any requests made to parents for voluntary contributions are entirely voluntary. We are proud of our track record in public education in ensuring and maintaining important equity principles. Please contact me confidentially if you require support, advice or assistance with the statement of account.

SRC News

School NewsAnaphylaxis - No nut products at schoolWe strive to create a safe environment for all students. A number of students in our school have severe allergies or are anaphylactic to nuts. Those students can suffer life-threatening consequences if they come into contact with a product containing nuts, or even a student who has consumed nuts. For this reason, nuts and nut products are not to be sent to school. As part of our school and Department of Education Anaphylaxis Policy, we thank you for your assistance by providing recess and lunch for your child that does not involve nuts or nut products. This includes products such as peanut butter, nutella, muesli bars biscuits, cakes and chocolates if they contain nuts or nut products. If you require further information, please contact the school.

Skoolbag AppWe encourage all parents to download the 'Skoolbag' App. This is one of the major communication platforms the school uses. Information on how to access 'Skoolbag' can be found by clicking the following link:https://moqproducts.com.au/skoolbag/installation-instructions/.

Canteen NewsA friendly reminder that we are now open for over the counter service every day. We have returned to four services, including Year 5&6 recess and after lunch snacks for all years (excluding Kindy). Remember to send your children along with change (no notes please).

Our Juicy fairies will continue to visit Kindy on Tuesdays. Each Tuesday, Kindy students can bring in $1 to purchase a Juicy (ice block), which is provided down in Kindyland. We thank the Kindy parent volunteers for making this happen. In the event of poor weather, this may be cancelled. Please also be aware that Birthday Buckets will not be available for Kindy on Tuesdays. If an order is placed accidentally, it will be provided on the Wednesday.
