Neuroscience aims to understand how the brainworks and is one of only a few areas of scientificexploration where fundamental discoveries areyet to take place. This MSc provides students

with an excellent grasp of the key areas andcutting edge research in this field.

Degree summaryThe programme maximises students' transferable skills, by providingtraining in: Laboratory research in cellular, molecular or systemsneuroscience (depending on choice of research project), Data analysis,Computer literacy, Oral presentation skills (research and datapresentation), Critical appraisal of up-to date literature journals and TimeManagement.

The UCL Division of Biosciences is one of the largest and most active

research environments for basic biological research in the UK, andUCL has one of the largest, most dynamic and exceptionalNeuroscience communities in the world.

This master's in Neuroscience at UCL draws upon this world leadingcommunity to provide students with an up to date picture of cuttingedge Neuroscience research.

The majority of our students take up PhD positions in Neuroscienceresearch both in the UK and abroad and completion of thisprogramme equips them for an excellent future scientific career.

The programme is delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars,tutorials and laboratory projects. Lectures are by active, internationalclass researchers in their field of Neuroscience specialisation. Studentperformance is assessed through unseen examination, coursework, andthe research project.

Degree StructureMode: Full-time 1 year; Part-time 2 years

Students undertake modules to the value of 180 credits. The programmeconsists of three core modules (60 credits), two optional modules (30credits) and a research project (90 credits).

Cognitive Systems Neuroscience

Systems and Circuit Neuroscience

DissertationStudents undertake an original research project investigating topicalquestions in cellular, molecular or systems neuroscience whichculminates in a 6,000 word dissertation and a 1,000 word report.
