1. “Networking isn’t for me. It is for social butterflies.”
2. “I have a large social network, why do I need networking?”
3. “I am an introvert. Can’t stand the fake act of pressing hands and sharing business cards”
4. “Isn’t doing my work good enough. Why must I network?”
5. “My network is well oiled. I can tap it when I need things done”
Myths 1. We network all the time. We need to do it
purposefully2. It isn’t about the size of the network but the
quality of people you network with3. Personality types may differ but nothing
prevents any individual from strengthening his or her network
4. Keep doing great work. However, networking is essential for adding value to others and in the process broadening your perspective
5. That’s nice. Networking isn’t about ‘using’ people but ‘giving’ selflessly.

c) before you need something (cause you are networking always, in essence)
2. A social network is a business network…
a) False – social network is for those you are comfortable with. Business networks may be with people you don’t know that well
3. The higher you go in the corporate hierarchy levels, the knowledge gap
a) Increases – since complexity increases in work and the gap is between personal knowledge and what it takes to succeed at the workplace
4. The more fuller your Rolodex is, the better is your network
a) Disagree – it is less about the number of people you know and more about the depth of your network that matters
5. Can networks help firms succeed?
a) Yes – the better connected your employees are, the greater benefit your organization receives
Help first. “Offer to help others first, and they will return the favor”

Networking adds value to organizations
Ability to network is in demandAs enterprises of the future respond to the development of a “networked” corporate world, where relationships with suppliers, outsourcing partners and even customers become more dispersed and nuanced, the capacity to align strategic goals, build consensus and encourage collaboration will become paramount.
